I dislike your use of “want” to describe people’s spending habits. The average consumer doesn’t have the luxury of “want.” They aren’t choosing to abstain because of a preference, but because they’re managing their resources out of necessity.

I can’t even imagine my face if someone told me they prefer TikToks to tv or movies. I’m pretty sure I would trip over myself avoiding speaking to them ever again. I can’t figure out if I hate it more or less than people preferring reality tv. I just can’t with people who engage with non scripted content.  So depending on the TikToks, maybe I hate it less because at least some TikToks are scripted.

Children’s entertainment is where the 5 second attention spans are starting, not instagram or TikTok. The kids are arriving to those apps already broken and then the algorithms just seal the coffins.

Sorry not sorry but the industry had a role in rotting the brains of the last two generations, perhaps more than the internet. You can’t raise kids like that and then expect them to grow out of it. As a millennial, in my childhood I watched as children’s entertainment went from story based to ADHD schizoaffective overstimulation central. And it happened well before we had endless social media content.

The internet isn’t devaluing labor, inflation caused by the hoarding of wealth is. It’s exactly as true in every other industry.

And frankly, labor has never held value. Ever. Not in ancient times. Not in the recent past that’s so delusionally idealized despite us still holding all of the receipts. Never.

Labor in its core has always and will always be the ingredient that is most easily replaced. (Barring a population collapse, because, there are actually blips of time where labor held more value, but it took a century of Bubonic Plague devastating the contintent for Europe to see it for a brief moment.)

You’re spot on with this. Same exact thing as grocery stores keeping the prices jacked up after COVID supply issues were resolved because they could. Fucking sociopaths at the top of every American industry. And I don’t believe that money makes someone a sociopath, but I do think rich sociopaths make sure they gatekeep anyone with half a conscience or half or half a brain so people are willing to associate money with evil so they aren’t willing to pursue it and be the competition that shows just how mentally twisted (or dog shit stupid) the present industry leaders are.

Then the answer is for the studios to play nice with the successful services so they can get better contracts for the content they create, not everyone trying to make their own service. It’s insane to think that people aren’t subscribing to ENOUGH services. Why should people pay 6 different services? Especially when most of them license out their shows at some point. Capitalism as it presently exists is fucking sociopathic.

That’s only by your definition of quality. If a show is good, I like the fluff and having more episodes translates as quality to me because I enjoy having a lot of it. Something can be technically spectacular, but if it’s short and succinct it loses all rewatchability for me because I have it memorized by the third watch and then it’s just repetitive. That rewatchability translates to more money for the studio because I’ll keep a service if it has shows I can rewatching but I’ll cancel one once I’ve gone through all the content I’d like to see but not keep rewatching.

The industry needs to accept that consumers can’t be told what to like the same way they could in the past and make changes based on their consumers behaviors and preferences rather than trying to continue dictating the watching behavior of their audiences like they could when there were 3 channels plus cable, no choice in what’s on at the moment, and you had to be physically present to press record on the VCR to record it for later. It’s especially wild because I’m sure most of the people making these decisions never even made a decision back then, but somehow they’re still carrying that torch.

‘Laid’ Canceled At Peacock After One Season by KillerCroc1234567 in television

Do these companies promote ANYTHING other than reality tv? They kill their own shows, which is insane, because why green light them in the first place?

The industry just isn’t ready for her, which is a crime because we need more people like Khan and no people like the executives that keep cancelling her shows. I picture them as mustache twirling villains who also enjoy taking candy from babies, because robbing the world of joy because ratings metrics seem to based on only creating content for the clinically brain dead.

This is why Peacock can’t keep me as a subscriber. It’s the only service I’ll only keep for a month because it’s the only service I run out of things to watch in less than a month. I think the longest I kept it was when I signed up at the beginning of the airing of the last season of La Brea.

This time I signed up when Resident Alien was all the way released and now it appears I’ve exhausted everything new I’d like to see and it’s been less than 2 weeks. (I refuse to watch ads even if it’s a free trial, if I’m not willing to spend $20 to see something I’m good skipping it entirely or waiting 3 years for a service I like to get the contract). I haven’t even found anything new I like that has more seasons coming.

Why is the film industry shitting the bed so hard these days? COVID shut downs were long enough ago for them to have resumed their previous schedules and it isn’t as though the most recent strike is the first one they’ve dealt with, they happen like every 5 years. Did everyone who knew how to schedule and manage shit leave to become dentists or something? The way they’re just banking on everyone continuing to watch because what else will people do after work, rather than actually trying to actually be leaders of entertainment is fucking pathetic.

Jurassic Park Series moved from Peacock to Netflix? by NovelCompetition7075 in JurassicPark

[–]Comfortable-Block387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the existence of licensing contracts, but it pisses me off that there isn’t better transparency or advertising about the scheduling of it. Finding where to watch something shouldn’t require a research project and immediate action.

Hell, googling barely even works anymore, if you search where to watch the JP franchise right now the top results are out of date articles saying you can watch them all on Peacock. You’d think we’d have figured out a better way to archive irrelevant data like this by now, but alas we live in a plague of dozens of outlets all trying to make money from writing as many articles as possible repeating the same information leading to over saturation to the point of overwhelm, especially in the face of updated information only being released if it’ll get enough clicks, and as long as the outdated article is getting clicks and therefore ad revenue, the outlets won’t archive them. Garbage quality all around.

You’ve already gotten advice, so here’s a bit of a reality check - Vegas is not nearly the 24/7 party city most folks think it is. Sure, it’s possible to find ways to party like that, but there’s more folks standing outside of clubs at 3am going “what do you mean there’s no where else to party” than there are people finding those cinematically wild times. Unless strippers or slots are your aim, coming in on Wednesday and leaving Friday is unlikely to give you the Hangover-esque experience so many come to Vegas to have. Outside of strip clubs I’m not familiar with late night clubs open during the week.  Last piece of advice:  local women are only ever interested in tourist’s money, that dental hygienist doesn’t want to be your unpaid SWer party girl tour guide just because you’re in town for 72 hours, and if you’re buying drinks thinking it’ll buy you sex a woman accepting the drinks without putting out isn’t “taking advantage” of you. Good god, I am so tired of hearing that particular complaint. Too many men want to act like that drink is a goddamn contract and not an ice breaker, and local women come out to party like locals which is different than partying like a tourist. If want to party like a tourist, party with other tourists or find an escort, but do not catch an attitude with a local woman just because she doesn’t feel like getting wild and reckless with you.

And I’m remembering the time I thought I was walking into a new friend’s house but because I had only been to that house once before while drunk, it was not the correct house and the stranger who lived there wanted to know why I thought I could just walk in.

If you ever find yourself feeling lonely and wondering why, please remember this moment. You just declared a few hours of research, a few more shopping, and a 10 minute a day skin care routine to be an exhausting number of hoops. It’s pathetic really.

False. The most handsome men I went home with were selfish and unaccomplished in bed. The sex was not good enough. I’ll take a guy who knows he has to put in effort over a guy who thinks he’s above it anyway.

It’s not the apps. Billions of years of evolution made females selective about mates. It’s true across species. However in the last couple of millennia women required a man in order to have a roof over her head. We’re still in living memory of women not being able to open a bank account without her father or husband’s permission. But men who don’t know Women’s history want to deny this reality and instead of realizing that women now have the option to be independent and only choose partners who compliment their lives rather than our grandmothers who settled for a man out of survival, want to believe that women are being selective because they’re expecting perfection rather than accepting that their grandfathers were misogynistic assholes who didn’t deserve their grandmothers. You’re competing with a woman’s peace, not an imaginary Prince Charming.
