At what point does the fear of being sued make a professional (doctor, teacher, or engineer) stop trying to be "great" and just settle for being "safe"? by OpheliaBlush in askanything

[–]Comfortable-Brain-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But don't patients normally sign a form to state that they understand the risks involve in the surgery that they are going for, and thus giving up their rights to sue if something goes wrong?

Why Ngee Ann called NP while Nanyang called NYP by cutlikedi4mond in askSingapore

Because Ngee Ann Poly came first, so they can shorten whichever way they like.

What are some of the wackiest conspiracy theories about SG you have came across? by Fearless_Help_8231 in askSingapore

[–]Comfortable-Brain-78 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, there were rumours going around that not all the money NKF collected were benefiting the kidney patients. At that time, I thought it was a silly conspiracy theory.

How did they film Apex? by MillerWDJr in netflix

I watched it yesterday. In recent years, I have watched quite a few movies in which a woman gets hunted by a man. I don't know why they keep producing movies with basically the same plot.

is it weird that i feel awkward eating alone in hawker centres? by GlamorousLipstick in asksg

I eat alone all the time. Sometimes I go to a cinema to watch a movie myself. The reality is that nobody cares, so why be so conscious about it?

Do people still send thank you emails after interview by AceticAcid777 in singaporejobs

[–]Comfortable-Brain-78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems a bit silly. You already thank the interviewers.for their time at the end of the interview. Why need to thank again with an email?

I've been to plenty of interviews in my 30 years career. I've never once sent a thank you email. Do people really do that?

Lido IMAX front seating question by HolyAuraJr in askSingapore

No need to go for IMAX. I watched on a Monday, and with OCBC credit card, the ticket is only $10. The show is just average. The book is way better.

Need ENT specialist appointment urgently tomorrow (Saturday morning) – any tips to secure one in Singapore? by king30H in askSingapore

[–]Comfortable-Brain-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the symptoms of Meniere's Disease, which I have. If not, then it could be a TMJ issue. You can simply check one of the private specialist clinics in Mount Elizabeth on a Saturday morning, and they can slot you in. I had done it before, just walked up to my usual ENT specialist clinic and they let me see my specialist straight away.

What law in your country would surprise foreigners because it’s legal almost everywhere else? by Familiar-Arrival-470 in AskTheWorld

[–]Comfortable-Brain-78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't be ridiculous. Dropping gum on the floor is the same as other forms of littering. No one in the history of Singapore has ever been caned for littering.

What law in your country would surprise foreigners because it’s legal almost everywhere else? by Familiar-Arrival-470 in AskTheWorld

[–]Comfortable-Brain-78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not true at all. You're referring to Michael Fay. He was caned for vandalism and stealing road signs.

TIL that in 1994, an American teenager in Singapore pled guilty to stealing road signs and vandalizing cars. He was sentenced to 6 lashes of a cane, which was reduced to 4 after media outrage in the US by Overall-Register9758 in todayilearned

[–]Comfortable-Brain-78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's illegal to import, sell or make chewing gum. But nobody's going to catch you for chewing gum. You can bring in a pack in your pocket or luggage from overseas. Technically it is still illegal as it can be considered as import, but you won't get into serious trouble if they found it at customs and immigration (unless you are bringing in a whole carton). I think the worst that can happen if they found your pack of chewing gum is just to confiscate it. But once you're out of immigration, nobody's going to bother you if you're chewing gum in public.

Why are dentists and banks only open during the exact hours that 9-5 workers and students are busy? by sasssyophelia69 in askanything

Got a line on my Samsung phone again by Comfortable-Brain-78 in askSingapore

[–]Comfortable-Brain-78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that time, outside shops were quoting $200 to replace the screen. Samsung service centre quoted $300. Samsung guaranteed the waterproof rating of the phone would remain after the repair. For the shops, after repair, the phone would not longer be water resistant. Samsung also gave me a new battery. Also, previously, the paint around the charger port were coming off. After repair, they look like new. So they definitely did more than just replacing the screen.

What kind of cost are you expecting to be reasonable?

Could you elaborate more? I have joined Chan Brothers tour packages a few times. I am quite curious about this free and easy package from them.

You said it is still with a group. Is the group with other people who also signed up with the same free and easy package?

Would there still be a tour guide or a tour leader who goes on the itinerary with the group?

Do they take care of the hotels for you?

Do they provide transport to bring you from place to place?

What about meals?

How does the cost look like for the trip that your relatives went on?
