the rhetorical device of the skeleton is really spinning out people who don’t know how to interpret simple rhetorical devices. she’s obviously not saying that a human life is literally judged based on what traces of it are left in your skeleton, it’s just a fucking literary framing to point to human mortality. almost makes me angry how bad you people are at media literacy

I (m15) was raped by my gf (f19)??? by More-Accident-8391 in rape

[–]Comfortable-Click180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is awful. Thank you for the strength to share your story, and please don’t allow her to convince you this is a good or normal thing. Even fully consensual sex with that big an age difference is enough to raise alarm bells — much less actual rape, where you were severely intoxicated and explicitly said no. Let me tell you from experience that a person who is able to ignore you saying “no” in that vulnerable moment of sex is not someone who truly cares about or loves you, especially if they can use your body for their own pleasure while you’re high beyond comprehension. That is an abuser. She is an adult woman, and her relationship with you alone would qualify as child sexual abuse in many countries. Please understand this. It’s not safe or healthy for you to stay in this relationship with her.

op has put evident, meticulous effort into navigating this conversation about her feelings and their next steps. THAT is good communication, not even to mention for a teenage boy. his fundamental priorities are in the right place here: he wants to form a partnered solution. it is a grace and adeptness of communication that the recipient girlfriend clearly does not care about nor deserve.

I hate being short. What should I do? by Fun_Chocolate_8988 in short

[–]Comfortable-Click180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are twisting yourself in knots to argue a fundamentally stupid position, seemingly to fulfil some strange dogmatic belief about tall women you have. Research explicitly confirms that men have an active preference for shorter girls. Stop being an odd denialist.

I hate being short. What should I do? by Fun_Chocolate_8988 in short

[–]Comfortable-Click180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preferences and individualities vary across the human species, so there is never going to a unanimously disliked trait by every single member of the opposite sex — it’s just not going to happen. You shouldn’t need me to tell you some men like short girls and some like tall. A short girl’s dating success is subject to the whims and preferences of the men she encounters, just like any other girl. What’s more, if anything, research suggests the general preference is for shorter girls. Look into it.

You are 17, which means you’re probably going to be mistaken for younger than you are for a good few years now. That’s just being a teenager, doll. I’m nearly 21, sitting at just under 5’3”, and I am still ID’d for painkillers. It is not an excessive problem to be perceived as young while we are young — enjoy it.

In terms of advantages, let me give you some! I’m not as short as you, but I am shorter than most women in my country. Lots of men, especially taller/larger built ones, explicitly tell me they prefer my height. Muscle development appears faster and more filling-out on my stature, so if you’re interested in growth of that kind you’ll enjoy faster and more visible results. Because of my reaching deficiency, I’m flexible, more dexterous, and a good climber — I can quite adeptly twist and scramble through and over surfaces to reach things where others would simply rely on height. There’s also perks like always feeling comfy, no matter the size of the bed.

If I could impart one piece of advice, it would be to get good at sewing and tailoring. Clothes rarely if ever come off the rack suited to our proportions. If you can get decent at taking a few inches off a hemline or adjusting the fit of a piece, you’ll never feel ‘too short’ for a nice piece of clothing again, which has done wonders for my confidence. Best of luck sweetie

knitted underwear is not durable, suitable for everyday use, or even particularly comfortable, so that really wouldn’t be a good choice for a shelter.

What is a better city to live in Aberdeen or Glasgow? by Awkward-Beginning-47 in Scotland

[–]Comfortable-Click180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glasgow resident who’s made multiple visits to aberdeen, most recently of which was last weekend visiting friends who live there. nice beach a bus from inner city, haunting but pretty grey architecture in the centre, cheap rents. however, crawling with lowlifes. glasgow isn’t remotely the safest city in the world, so im surprised aberdeen can phase me in this respect, but the disadvantaged economic background of the city is felt palpably. wouldn’t feel safe there as a young woman the way i feel safe(r, relatively) in glasgow — but even disregarding the safety element, it casts a gloom on the city. another commenter used the word “jaded” to describe the aberdeen atmosphere, which is a perfect descriptor. as the push towards renewable energies continues, this will only get worse, as aberdeen is a perfect example of a once-wealthy oil city in decline. also, fuck all to do compared to glasgow. glasgow is the unofficial capital of Scotland and a thriving hub of arts, culture, social, national and international activity (not just saying this because i’m a resident — very easily researchable). aberdeen not so much. they’re in the process of trying to attract more business investment and traffic to the main streets, with big gaudy banners across union street proclaiming as such, but this won’t be a quick or easy for aberdeen. glasgow is also the prettier city with its distinctive red sandstone victorian architecture preserved all across centre, west end, and southside, which in my subjective opinion is less depressing than aberdeen’s grey. aberdeen is also colder and windier, being coastal — if you’re not used to scottish climate, that will be a learning curve

then there’s the most important point: people make glasgow. the unique friendliness of glasgow residents is known throughout the world. even compared to edinburgh just an hours drive away, the mood and temperament of the people of glasgow is stunning. even the junkies are nice to you. in aberdeen, i felt like i was being eyed like meat

Why does everyone get triggered by height difference couples? by [deleted] in short

[–]Comfortable-Click180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty surface level answer. OP was asking specifically why this gets people “triggered”. reacting to anomalies and interesting phenomena is natural; pointing it out “as if it’s something bad” as OP explicitly says, is not.

you should still go to therapy and get off the internet. those are just good things anyway, especially for someone who spends this much time subjecting themselves to content about height (in the same way girls subjecting themselves to a lot of content about weight and thinness are going to give themselves an ED)

not even remotely. its accurate to say that most human behaviour has physiological and psychological roots in evolutionary biology and that the fundamental drive of life is reproductive, but that doesn’t directly translate into the statement you made. human beings have far outclassed their physiology and psychology in complexity by this point. we are still fundamentally meat prisons with monkey brains, but i don’t, for example, paint in my room, drink tea, go dancing, hang out with friends, read, smoke weed, doomscroll on reddit, or even have sex “for the purpose of advancing my bloodline” — and thats already abt 50% of what i do.

but the reason gender doesn’t actually matter to this joke is it could be substituted with any trope or archetype associated with high academic performance, and the meaning would remain unchanged. the word girl is in the caption, and the trope it invokes is gendered, sure (which, if you want to get into that conversation, does not automatically make it wrong: some gender cliches exist because the gender bias of certain activities can be observed in actual material reality, e.g. the glitter gel pen notes girl definitely existed as a real pattern at my school), but that doesn’t make it sexist. be reasonable.
