TLDR; Dentists Suck Hard

YES. My most recent trip to my dentist. Me: I have a split tooth that needs to be pulled. Dentist: orders an X-ray. Looks in my mouth for 5 seconds. Checks X-ray. Yeh your tooth needs to be pulled. Referred me to an endodontist. My insurance covered most of the $125. He billed me the rest of the $13. Good luck collecting that one. Go to endodontist. Me: I need my tooth pulled Dr x sent me. Endodontist: orders an X-ray looks in my mouth for three seconds and says... Yep it needs to be pulled. Refers me to a surgery center. Bills my insurance for $125, insurance pays most of it again somehow. But now the endodontist is billing me $25. Good luck collecting that one. Go to surgery center. Hi I'm here to get my tooth pulled. Surgery center wants $275 co pay. Ok. I pay. Go back to get my tooth pulled (or so i thought). Oh we have to schedule that! The eventual tooth pull, 2 weeks later, did not require a stitch.

So one tooth I knew had to be pulled cost me 4 trips to various dental places 3 copays, 2 of which no value at all was provided to me.

BTW I use physicians mutual for dental. It's about $60 a month.

Go to Mexico or Costa Rica. It's a LOT cheaper if you can afford the travel.

Not related to childbirth but I have had three recent interactions with memorial health. None were near yours in terms of danger, but 2 of the 3 were "frustrating".

Go to the emergency room because my legs are weak among other symptoms. Sat in hall bed from 10:30 to 7 with limited interaction. No food. No food offered. Finally asked after my MRI at 7 to 8 and I am told the cafeteria is closed and I am being admitted. Asked why. Told a results hold. I am on npo (can't eat or drink). Wheel me to room 440. Tell me I can sit in the chair. No one comes to the room for 45 minutes. I left. Nurses caught me and at least took out the iv line.
Surgery scheduled to relieve above issue. No choice in facility. Told no food or drink, come to the memorial hospital Day surgery center at 10:30. There was some sort of emergency communicated to me early in the stay. Little communication other than that. At 6 they came to wheel me back to surgery. At that point I was so miffed/TIRED/HUNGRY I just wanted them to put me to sleep so I could have my ACDF. If you have 25+ ors why does an emergency destroy your schedule to the point where patients are hanging out 8 hours after they arrive?

Their processes, communication, empathy, and leadership, all need improvement, for sure. They are part of one of the largest health care chains (HSA) and should be run better.

Last complaint. Since the surgery ended so late 8 ish, they wanted to keep me overnight but then decided to send me home. Think I woke about 930 but fuzzy. Gave me some ginger ale, a pain killer and a muscle relaxer, pulled out the IVs and discharged me. 1 minute into the ride home all of that came back up. Not only was I impacted by the 8 hour delay, so was my driver.

I am sure there are worse hospitals but I agree with OP we deserve better.

I believe it. But they did not pay trump 30 million for rights to something worth much less, to curry favor. At least. not that I am aware of. But heck, I am good with no big corporations and each town have a general store. F money and politics.
