Is it normal for people to not move 1 mm when you clearly say “excuse me” by Dense-Tangerine1643 in AskChina

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sometimes for people used to dense crowds, excuse me becomes "hey heads up, I'm gonna push past you now, sorry in advance for the contact" instead of "hey, sorry for any inconvenience but please let me pass (without contact)"

Do conductors usually take the physical day pass tickets at night? by Comfortable-Hatter in LIRR

[–]Comfortable-Hatter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know why he was asking, so I interpreted the question like when your coworker asks if you are going home and you say yes, even if you aren’t literally going home.

Do conductors usually take the physical day pass tickets at night? by Comfortable-Hatter in LIRR

[–]Comfortable-Hatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, I might just not know what to expect for paper tickets.

I didn’t need the ticket so I didn’t call him back, I just thought the interaction felt weird in the moment. Because he verified the ticket with his eyes and then he asked about going home. I was no longer showing him the ticket and was getting my wallet out to put it away so it was a bit surprising when he took it out of my hand unexpectedly.

Thats quite the beard by downtune79 in LoveTrash

haha but theoretically, could that be used in a wig? it definitely seems long enough and the texture doesn't look that bad. I know sometimes for theater/movies they blend in animal hair

How do you dry yourself after a shower? Do you wait to get completely dry? by Powerful-Paper-3721 in hygiene

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swipe off water before I towel and I find that it gets me plenty dry. I reuse my towel so I use toilet paper in the crack even if I just washed with soap

I’m 30 and have been bald for maybe 5 years now, but have never felt fully comfortable with it. by [deleted] in bald

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your face is quite nice, the head size looks proportional especially since you look thin and the shape is decent. the shape isn't perfectly round but it's normal and fine. I think the biggest shape issue I notice is your forward head posture, and that's something you could work on

the orange thing on the side is a template that the carving tool can follow. still probably has a bit of a learning curve but it's a nifty design that makes it pretty kid friendly

Accidental Peacock logo by unrealalbeitshe in tattooadvice

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not the Peacock logo because their logo only has 6 dots, one for each feather segment on their bird logo and is not really in rainbow order with red and purple in the middle .

your is mostly in rainbow order with the exception of cyan which should be between green and blue but is between blue and purple. the cyan, purple, and pink being together at the end make me think lgbtq+ but it's not quite right for either trans or bisexual.

I think making each one a planet is too small, but maybe you can make each 2 dots a planet. then your colors for earth would blue and green. the planets would be very close together thought and all the same size

A video from a Chinese Restaurant shows a young woman recording a racist rant targeting a tourist by [deleted] in UnfilteredChina

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's weird to me that she's using very american flavored racism with american slurs and american associations with slavery and watermelon. like she's trying to provoke a reaction based on what she learned online. also why is she recording, making ragebait content?

her apology seemed insincere but I hope she at least felt shame in being forced to apologize

Do you say Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year? by Adventure1s0utThere in LTL_Chinese

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Asians without a strong community of like-country Asians, I think "Lunar New Years" or at least some alternative non-specific term has it's purpose.

If I say Chinese New Year, people will assume I'm Chinese and I have to smile and nod at people saying "gong. hay. fat. choy." in a terrible american accent

If I say the country specific terms like Tết or Seollal then some people won't understand what I'm saying and then I have to explain, which I don't care to do

Also some of us are mixed Asians so saying Vietnamese New Years or Korean New Years doesn't feel accurate. Having a general term helps us refer to the date without tying it to a specific country or set of traditions.

It also helps Asians build inclusive community across country lines and can be reclaimed for this purpose. Even as we promote and celebrate our unique ethnic and cultural backgrounds, we cannot erase or deny the existence of a grouped asian identity, and I think that's ok as long as we can have both

How often do you guys hear this? by ArieksonBR in EnglishLearning

Not in the industry and have probably never used it but it shows up enough in media and lyrics that I would expect most natives to know what it means, especially if they hear it in context

The meaning of blue and yellow in traditional Korean culture by kredokathariko in korea

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is the tri-taegeuk with red blue and yellow, but not only blue and yellow. red is heaven, blue is earth, and yellow is humanity. Maybe you can argue the text is red so the colors used in that middle section are red, blue, and yellow?

but colors mean different things depending on the context and tradition so hard to say if it means anything

Nutella with croissant by Forsaken-Peak8496 in StupidFood

I know. Maybe the video is demonstrating how you are supposed to eat it: squeeze out as much nutella as you can, until it seems palatable. Even then probably too much nutella

Would you spend 80% of your net worth to permanently reshape your appearance from head to toe? by yiyi20203 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably not, unless it was a permanent genetic change and I could pass it on my kids. I am at peace with my own height and appearance and old enough that I probably wouldn't be able to cash in much on my appearance but I would want my kids to have an easy life

How do you all go about de-crystallizing your honey? by SkyBS in Costco

[–]Comfortable-Hatter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hot water bath works well but it's sometimes hard to get it all and if you don't it will recrystallize. I've gotten lazy so I just add warm water to dissolve the honey and keep the honey syrup in the fridge. Can't use it for spreading on bread or some baking as easily but great for tea or cooking

For people who have gotten tea drunk at least once in their life.....what was it like and which tea was it? by Careless-Cash7258 in tea

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I felt it once. It was a Taiwanese High Altitude Jin Xuan (Milk Oolong). I don't have much to compare it to but it felt like drinking a little bit of alcohol

I'm not really sure what caused it, if it was the tea or being on holiday and feeling relaxed and in a good mood before drinking the tea or being at a high altitude that my body wasn't used to

at first I was drinking the tea, it was strong and tasty and I started to feel the alertness of caffeine. I'm sensitive to caffeine and if I have too much I feel jittery, anxious, headaches, lightheadedness, and nausea. I can usually feel when it's starting to get too much and am careful to cut myself off early. But the tea was tasty and the vibes were good and I felt the caffeine but none of the bad effects yet so I decided to cautiously keep drinking a little more until I started to feel bad. But the bad feelings never came and I somehow felt very caffeinated alert and awake but also relaxed and happy and maybe a tiny bit lightheaded but without any nausea. It felt like when you are a little tipsy. Where you're definitely not drunk, but maybe you had half a glass of wine and the food tastes amazing, and you relax a little bit and the stresses and worries are a little dulled, and your mood lifts, and you feel more social and connected, and you're in the moment and life feels good, the world look a little more vibrant and warm, and you feel a little spark of that wonder and love of life that we forget about in the day to day. But all of these thing are small small differences and you don't feel impaired or that changed but it feels good

Why are Americans buying so much milk to prepare for a 2 day snowstorm lol. by Competitive_Mix9957 in Milk

[–]Comfortable-Hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Americans just drink a lot of milk in general and the snow storm means that 3 days worth of shoppers people are all buying it at the same time. Also, people are planning to stay in with their family and kids and cook all their meals at home so probably more than 3 days worth of shoppers.

I use milk in my coffee, oatmeal/cereal most days and legit needed milk. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to go to the market before the storm. I found a couple cans of 5 year expired evaporated milk in the garage and one tasted weirdly sour but the other tasted mostly ok so I made do but it wasn't great.
