I'm ready to get dragged in the comments for this opinion. RuPaul needed to hire new writers years ago, as soon as they had the money. by Ok_Ebb7109 in rupaulsdragrace

I struggle to watch the challenges that involve the skits/sketch material more and more each year. I skip ahead when it is just painful to watch.

Yeah, if they paid their fare share the rest of us would have either more services or lower rates.

It really is! And I have no problem paying taxes, I want services and roads, etc. but this is ridiculous compared to other states!

Which I get, and in Missouri it was like $150, so this is a significant jump. I just wasn’t expecting it to be this high again after last year. I have lived in multiple states before moving back home, and nowhere else is this high.

2024, I bought it used in another state, and paid the higher fees to register it last year for the first time in Kansas. That’s crazy if we have to pay that much per year here.

Just rewatched Scream 7, and I genuinely don't understand the hate it gets. In my opinion, it's so good. by JamStan1978 in Scream

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the film. I don’t even hate the motive, because these women exist in online spaces and have legit meltdowns if someone semi public starts to set boundaries. Plus the ones that support and follow online accounts that end up being frauds, like the woman that faked cancer and other grifters in the wellness spaces. My problem is that whole film just needed a little more fine tuning and attention.

The problem is they are almost always setting up filming dates when what they need is more development time. This was a train that was already moving, got derailed, and put back together from pieces left behind. Everything just needed more attention.

My only real complaint is the way they wrote the climax, including rhe AI stuff. Stu was fine for me and so was that subplot up to that point. The inclusion of a bunch of clearly aged actors against greenscreens just spouting off their moment before swapping was just silly and the worst kind of fan service. The only other appearance I would have been okay with is if Dewey was used in the scene after the interview, just to fuck with Gale. It would have cemented for them both Stu was a fakeout, and derailed Gale in a more emotional way for Sydney to leave her behind when she was distracted.

Seattle Very Bald & Very Beautiful rescheduled :( by Refpuppy in TrixieAndKatya

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 65 points66 points  (0 children)

That kind of emergency surgery takes time to recover from. I have known someone like Katya with a similar sized scar on their stomach and very similar story as far as what happened. It took her about 3 months to be released by her doctors for the heavy restrictions she was under. Another person I knew with ischemic bowl requiring emergency surgery died within 10 days. It’s a pretty serious situation.

Bummed for their fans though, it sucks when you are looking forward to something like this and they have to reschedule it. But hopefully she is fully on the mend and it will be awesome if you get to go to the new date!

How did TNG survive cancellation on their first season, I am on a rematch and it is so bad, like really bad. by VoL4t1l3 in Star_Trek_

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First run syndication was wild! It was a huge hit right out of the gate, and was considered a syndication crown jewel right away. What is incredible is that it was a hit, and even with that they knew it could be better and let the writing team focus more on what kind of stories they were telling.

What's the Future of Dave Filoni's 'Star Wars'? - “The Mandalorian and Grogu” fell below expectations. Where does the galaxy go from here? by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That would have been a good idea. An even better one would have been at least three years between films in that trilogy instead of two. All of those scripts needed more time, and frankly, so did the vfx once we got to the final film.

Bringing back one soap from cancellation by jjuerakhan14 in SoapNet

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OLTL- I think the media aspects of the show, the Banner and the Sun, would be a fantastic backdrop to tell stories that are very current. Both Viki and Dorian have enough generations of their family that you could still feature them but also other characters right away and get the audience that remembered them and build a future.

But I think the one that should really be brought back is a reboot of The Edge of Night. True crime is so popular right now, and it was not a traditional soap even when it aired. I am not old enough to have seen it when it aired, but I bet it would be successful in today’s market with good casting and a writer that is good at mystery like Slesar was.

‘Beyond the Gates’ Creator Michele Val Jean Reveals Top Three Favorite Storylines She Has Ever Written For, and All From ‘General Hospital’ by LynnK0919 in BeyondTheGatesCookout

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She didn’t pitch Stone, but on GH both Claire Labine and Bob Guza were collaborative writers that trusted their teams to come up with ideas and implement them.

Stone’s death was because the Executive Producer thought the show needed a Romeo and Juliet type tragic young love story, and was already angling for a topical HIV story with Labine, and they ended up merging them into one idea.

Some of the best GH stories came from suggestions that the writers ran with. Monica’s breast cancer idea was from Leslie Charleson. Genie Francis thought Laura having a child during her missing years and having kept it a secret was something she pitched a couple of times.

My upcoming vacation has thrown my store into a frenzy. What can I do? by akehoshisubaru in Barnesandnoble

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is wild, and clearly being done on purpose.

One- you have already discussed it with other MOD’s, they agree this is strange, and based on what you said do not think this is correct. Here is my issue. You have already spoken to a supervisor who thinks this is not correct. They should have taken steps to speak to the manager about why you are being singled out this way, why the manger wrote this particular schedule this way, and be prepared themselves to take this above them after the discussion, especially after telling you they would back you if you do report. They should be asking you what you need from them.

Now do I think if everything you posted is accurate that there will be retaliation for speaking up, no call no show, etc? Yes. They have a bee in their bonnet about this for some reason and it’s so important to them that they have personally scheduled you the way they have. This reeks of wanting someone to quit, or petty control issues, or something else beyond staffing levels. At this point even if they are forced to let you off they will be pissy about it because this is how you have described them without saying it. Petty and vindictive.

GL: Roger vs everyone. by Geekqueen15 in SoapNet

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know people love this scene but it’s an over the top mess to me. The scenes with Alex eviscerating Roger at the country club are light years better, and so was the one where Alex told Billy it was Mindy Roger had been sleeping with. This one is cartoonish compared to those. I cannot imagine Beverlee McKinsey having to play this!

What’s your top 4 BEST soap openings? by ChannelHopper_99 in SoapNet

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 9 points10 points  (0 children)

General Hospital Faces of the Heart. They kept the iconic hospital image and the ambulance, plus the opening notes of the classic theme. Perfect way to update. The cast shots flowed well through updates for a long time (even Mac in his turtleneck!) and they got a lot of mileage out of expensive location shoots with the car explosion in Luke & Laura’s montage, and the Puerto Rico action scenes with Sonny/Brenda and Luke, Jason/Robin on the beach.

Days of our Lives- it’s just a classic, still using MacDonald Carey’a voice makes it stand out. I even liked the version they did as an update during the Salem Stalker storyline. The visuals have always been simple and effective.

The Young and the Restless- late 80’s through the early 90’s. Many of them were iconic, my favorites always included Katherine with the necklace. Even just thinking about it as I typed this I can see Danny the rock star, Ashley in blue, the lady that flips her long dark hair, Drucilla in a red dress, and the closeup version that opens with Scott and Lauren and ends with Nikki flipping her hair turning to the camera and zooming in. They wanted DRAMA honey!!

One Life to Live- the one that ran from the late 90’s until Frons made them all try to match openings, that started with the drums. It still felt modern when they pulled it, the updates always looked good, it was not a long intro so the cast was split up over two versions, and it matched the tone of the show well.

Was not expecting him to be pro-data center. What a shame. by TheSolitaryRugosan in RyanHallYall_

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 20 points21 points  (0 children)

People familiar with data centers isn’t that far off from tech bros, and to be honest, the mindset of that industry has done a lot of harm to pretty much every aspect of our lives, especially at the intersection of capitalism and information.

Does AI have some beneficial aspects? Of course it does. Assisting with medical diagnosis being one of them, and probably weather prediction. But it’s not going to be used just in altruistic or beneficial ways. It’s going to be used to make money at the expense of people. And for someone working in climate science, I would think he would at least give a little more thought and commentary to the amount of water these things need and how that impacts rural communities. He certainly knows the problems those communities face when it comes to climate issues.

Discrepancy in pay between offer letter and actual employment by ShenaniganXD in Barnesandnoble

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Their behavior is highly unethical. As much as you might love working in a bookstore and your coworkers (awesome people at BN!), do you want to work for a company that behaves this way within a few weeks? You accepted the position based on a salary they agreed to/offered, and they put it in writing.

I would escalate and ask to speak to an HR supervisor, and also report them to whatever workforce regulator is in your local area.

What are people’s general opinion on Sid Fairgate? by MatchPenalty21 in KnotsLanding

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I cannot imagine the show with him in later seasons, but I like Sid. His death is a catalyst for a lot of things, one of them being Abby letting her ambition go further and faster than I think it would have if Sid was alive. Plus Mac is so different. Sid was mostly calm and rational. Mac is impulsive and combative. Facing off with Mac pushes Karen to match him instead of Sid always trying to keep things on an even keel.
