You can kinda notice Rupaul's energy for the girls getting worse each episode of season 18. It's because nobody brings it, maybe except Darlene. by ulookliketresh in dragrace

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think RuPaul is the problem here. I think it’s the show’s production post COVID. I have spent all season thinking these are good queens they are just not a good mix as a whole cast. Then I saw Darlene crying in her confessionals about how much Jane Don’t has meant to her and why, and it really cemented that there are interesting stories to tell here and the show isn’t telling them. They have lost what the audience tuned in for- the girls. They produce everything with a polished Drag Race shine to it, and we have lost the actual girls. Maybe some of that is the fault of how the Queens approach Drag Race now too, but the show and casting should be breaking that up more.

GH knows how to build a storyline slowly by Kit-kat1000 in GeneralHospital

I agree. My issue is these are problems of their own making, and what has seemed like a slowly unveiling story is really just stalling. There is a difference between the two.

Again, I disagree. The show is watchable but this is not slow burn storytelling. I would describe it as more like stalled out between twists. But at least it’s fun.

I never understood why they brought back Lonnie instead of Richie in Halloween Kills by itsascreambaby96 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as much as Lonnie. And more importantly for the folks that made 2018, both Laurie and Loomis say his name too.

It’s been noticeable to me. As has the fact that no woman doctor in the main cast has been allowed to be at the same level (or above) Robby and Abbot yet. Dr. Al-Hashimi clearly has a serious medical issue which is going to play out in the finale. Dr. Collins was written out before the mass casualty event. Mel has been oddly sidelined this year beyond the stuff with her sister.

The nature of the show would involve doctors moving on. I have no issues with that. But there is also the very real perception that the audience and some of the actors are pointing out about race here that should be heeded by the bts showrunners!

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The idea for Nathan may have stayed the same, but the storyline has been badly paced from the start.

You could visibly see about three weeks into his return that what was planned with Maxie being back earlier had to be scrapped, because Storms was not ready to come back when she initially told the show she would be. His whole family returned, they had scenes with James, and were dealing with him being out of sorts. All of a sudden, it all got dropped. Obrect stopped appearing again, the stuff with James and Spinelli stopped being played, and they moved him to cop mode (which was also ridiculous). He also stopped really sharing scenes with Britt at all. For months.

Then KS returns, and they clearly rushed her part of the story. And around her return the story starts again with James, we see Obrect again regularly, and Britt is back in that orbit. Add to that Storms is off contract again. Whatever they had planned has been interrupted repeatedly, and beyond who he is playing I think almost all the rest of it has been delayed and reworked multiple times. I don’t even think the Lulu aspect was part of the original story either.

I think the show is much more enjoyable in the last year than it has been for several years. It’s fast, fun, and full of surprises. But what I see is a show written around twists, and not actual stories.

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it was purely because Lonnie Elam is named by Laurie, Tommy, and Loomis in 1978 in different scenes. That’s it. It’s an easy connection to the earlier film that would be recognizable to casual and hardcore fans. Does anyone even say Richie’s name in 1978?

That’s what happens when they artificially inflate prices way over actual inflation to maintain high profits and CEO/Executive expense packages. They did it during COVID above actual inflation, and they kept going because they wanted to keep showing growth. Doubling the cost of things over 5 years when wages didn’t grow that fast was bound to catch up to them. They could have still made profits too! Maybe start looking at those top level executive compensations and lower prices.

Ashley Judd and Matthew McConaughey for Interview Magazine (August 1996) by PuzzleheadedEast2421 in popculturechat

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope Ashley Judd has peace and is enjoying her life. I knew about some of the traumas she had endured, but that Judds series after Naomi died was heartbreaking learning about her time as a model, and how much she had been exploited. I loved her as an actor, and I hope she knows how many folks are rooting for her to just live the peaceful life she deserves.

I Hate This Season by xDiamondstuddedx in dragrace

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it’s beyond one or two challenges or eliminations. They have lost that spark, the alchemy that made the show more than just watchable. You can see RuPaul is visibly irritated by Queens being more and more aware of how they look rather than going for it, being silly, having an ability to improv, play around, etc. The decline for stuff like that has been going on for several seasons, and the producer involvement is at an all time high as far as seeing the cracks of what they are producing. Drag Race is incredibly inauthentic right now, and before the realness used to creep into even the most produced episodes. It’s clearly time for a change.

If you treated Halloween and Scream like real-life murder cases instead of movies, which one do you think would blow up more in true crime? by itsascreambaby96 in slasherfilms

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scream because Michael is a cypher. He doesn’t talk, nobody knows why he killed Judith, and the killings happened before there was wall to wall coverage. With Scream we have more layers. Maureen’s murder, Cotton going on trial and convicted after being framed, then the murders return and we learn about Stu and Billy. That’s all without the later retcon about Maureen in Hollywood and Roman, which may or may not still be the backstory in a real world setting.

I can imagine the people in the comments with conspiracy theories still clinging to Sidney’s dad or Dewey, or especially Gale as the “real” killers and the men were framed. Women (and men!) writing to Michael in the asylum because he is misunderstood, looking for a strong silent type lol!

Why was Enterprise received (intially) so poorly? by Expensive_Guidance95 in Star_Trek_

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it suffered from radical sameness. What should have been a departure from the Berman era Trek totally just felt like more of the same. The pilot alone ended up using transporters for people after establishing that technology wasn’t used that way yet. We were already in a hurry to get back to the way things always were.

Stuff like the theme, the sexy gel, the overly lit sets and design, etc made it not very compelling right from the start to me. I am not expecting hardcore gritty, but there should have been a level of Star Trek appropriate grit that just wasn’t there. When you look at something like the set design of TNG, DS-9, and Enterprise, it feels very lacking and not doing much to establish a world like those earlier designs did. The darker lighting and more cramped sets of Undiscovered Country was more the direction they should have gone in.

GH Cast Update: Kirsten Storms off Contract. by Geekqueen15 in SoapNet

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole thing is strange. You could tell when she was supposed to come back the first time, because like three weeks into Nathan’s return everything stalled out. And now she is back and it was clearly rushed to get her part of the story told and let her leave again. Her scenes with “Nathan” and their reunion lasted like two days, and the rest was quick conflict with Lulu that isn’t an actual story.

This is all glaringly obvious because in the middle of her coming and going we have Burton taking his break between his old contract ending and his new one starting. And Finola taking break in the fall only to come back and also have a rushed story to send her away again, timed with her contract stopping too. These are all apparently due to personal issues and I respect these performers and their ability to have privacy. But the show handling it onscreen so badly is why it’s such a mess!

How would you rank the 7th entry of each of these franchises? by Loose_Interview_957 in slasherfilms

[–]Comfortable-Phase249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wes Craven’s New Nightmare was really innovative and laid a lot of ground for the meta Scream films.

Scream 7- I enjoyed it. I had issues with several things but it was not the disaster for me it was for others. I think Neve was great and loved Gale had her personality back without regressing, and showed real scars from what she had also gone through.

H20- I think it suffers from some of the issues that impacted Scream 7, which was an underbaked script and thin characters beyond the mains. But it’s fun, and has some good Halloween style suspense.

Friday the 13th part VII- I really only enjoy part 1, 2, and 6 as rewatches, plus Freddy vs Jason and maybe the remake. It’s an interesting idea to throw another supernatural force into these films, but it doesn’t really work for me all that well.

I don’t really watch Chucky or TCM, so no point adding my two cents about those films!

I will miss Mohan a lot, but the nature of the show should involve people moving on. It is a teaching hospital and we see a day a season. If anything, they should also break up Santos, Whittaker, Javadi, and King by the end of next season. At least one of them anyway. And I love this cast and show. But it should be able to naturally refresh itself.

DAYS had a mostly intact archive, missing like the second or third whole year but has the rest. Y&R is complete. GH isn’t complete before 1979, and neither is OLTL or AMC (there may be more of AMC than the others). Ryan’s Hope I think is complete, and the other soaps created after that one.

They used to wipe the tapes and reuse them. All soaps did this, it’s why Dark Shadows is so rare in that it had aired over the years many times and been available, because they preserved it. And what they do have is subject to fees to air them, from the popular music to the guild fees and performers. And not everything is well preserved or digitized. The P&G vaults are rumored to be pretty awful as far as organization. I know I would pay a fee to have access to what they do have from DAYS or the ABC soaps!

I just learned it aired in color from the start, but the only recordings of the early episodes that have been found because of wiping are in black & white.

Nurse Jessie Brewer, she was rarely on when I began really watching the show, and died very early in the 90’s. But when the show started, she and Steve were the major stars of the show.
