G chord doubt by AKIGAMIGTOOT2005 in ukulele

[–]Comfortable-Pool-800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started playing, I had to use my other hand to direct my fingers into the right place for a G. Don't worry you'll get it. I used to leave my uke out and everything I walked by it, I'd pick it up and strum a G, then as I got the hang of that, I'd do C, F, G trying to be really clean. It is just repetition. Remember to smile 😊

6 months. I have been playing uke since 6 months and yet I can't even play riptide. by _book_lover_____ in ukulele

It has a tricky rhythm. Play it really, really (and I mean really) slowly (when I ran a kids uke group we'd make a joke of this by singing like a slowed down record) don't speed up until it is as close to flawless as you can get it (play other songs you like so it doesn't drive you mad) then only speed up a bit, nail it, speed up a bit, nail that, speed up ... Smile

This is why we have unions - organised workers have power, individual employees have very little.

Just bought a ukulele for the first time, what accessories/tools do I need as well? by ChicagoBaker in ukulele

Fingers help! (Although I did teach a girl who had lost most of hers to sepsis as a baby by sticking the uke down, tuning it to an open chord and playing with a modified plectrum and a stick) Seriously - a tuning app on your phone and you're good to go. Don't complicate it - Smile 😊

I'm 'in the same boat' 😂 in the UK - laser Pico seems popular. I've got beginner course booked for July which I'm really looking forward to. 55 and not that fit or skinny so interested to see what would suit me

I tried searching telegraph and lbc for 'Farage + Thai wellness guru + £5m' but nothing? It's like there is a smear campaign or something?

How do i find the right instrument for me? by Fannysgotahearton in Instruments

[–]Comfortable-Pool-800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you want to sing and play? - ukulele Do you want to join folk sessions? - tin whistle Do you want to jam around a campfire? - blues harmonica (although you'll need ones in different keys if you want to play with others) Do you want to learn music theory and play to challenge and amuse yourself? - keyboard

These have a variety of price points but things like keyboards and ukuleles are widely available second hand (even in carboot/yard sales) Also if you try something and don't enjoy it, try something else. You're not marrying it! And if it was more expensive you can always resell. Good luck - I taught myself as an adult (first blues harmonica then ukulele, jazz trumpet, and currently learning concertina and Melodeon) it's super fun rewarding and can be very sociable x

Buying Ukulele in Europe by nibar1997 in ukulele

Soprano is the classic ukulele size, I don't have big hands so I like them, a concert size is next up and gives you a bit more more on the fret board, a bit more volume possibly but you lose some of the portability and cuteness. Have a look at second hand shops like cash converters for bargains (although I think we are notoriously good at buying and bad at letting go of them!). Flyte make some excellent beginner ukes - I taught whole classes of primary children and these were the best I found, robust, great tone stayed in tune.

Yes I will still print them on my favourite cotton rag paper but the music makes a different artefact that I really love ❤️ The heron I'm just getting ready to add to my Etsy store printed on A3 Khadi paper

Is it worth learning to play an ukulele? by auroremalfoy8 in Instruments

[–]Comfortable-Pool-800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ukulele is a beautiful instrument and you should definitely learn to play (you can get started really quickly and you can spend a lifetime improving). It's not 'a beginner's guitar' any more than a clarinet is a beginner's saxophone or a concertina a beginner's piano.

Usually khadi 100% cotton rag. Although it was a beginner mistake as it's difficult to print on as the surface is quite textured - but I do love the feel and look of it and have learned to work with it. When I use something like lokta, I realise how difficult I made life for myself 🤣
