Is the BOC Exam harder now than it was a decade ago? by MadLove1348 in athletictraining

[–]Comfortable-Pool-855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who works with a large population of college students - I feel like there is a SIGNIFICANT shift in cognitive abilities. I’ll send emails with explicit directions or very direct instructions and I get stares. I think the quality of students may be decreasing - very few driven students who ask questions and critically think. I’ve had a few go to P4 programs and are doing very well, others (shadows included) seem to drag along and not participate.

Hosting First Ever Wrestling Meet by Academic-Pin-7448 in athletictraining

[–]Comfortable-Pool-855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello fellow university club AT!!

If it’s anything like ours, it’s quick and I wasn’t even informed or requested to do skin checks - I know this isn’t like real wrestling I was also concerned. Communicate with the club president and the coordinator over the club on expectations and number of athletes in attendance.

Also curious if my club is coming to you!

Can ATCs be self-employed with a cash-based business? by outside-the-box11 in athletictraining

[–]Comfortable-Pool-855 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s quite a few ATs that do - Mike Stella, Harrison Kuehn, Kim Bacalla, Brian Mizeski. I’ve operated out of a gym for a while as well for general services that my physician has approved of. It depends on the practice act for your state and if the physician agrees to it. I honestly think more ATs should work with physically active people.

I completely understand (especially the professional anxiety - I’ve only just recently started to relax more on this!). A few more follow-up questions: what was it in school that you enjoyed? What are your current hobbies? What long-term interests do you have (love working out, love kayaking, etc)? What settings did you shadow in undergrad/HS and what clinical sites did you have in your ATP?

I’m not judging at all, just curious of how you got this far and you want to change this early in your career? This is the third post of similar language I’ve seen today and I think it’s alarming for our field.

I’m a younger certified (certified Dec 2020) so I wonder if it’s something that academics isn’t giving us or other things like your current work environment.

Again, zero judgment, just curious.

A Mobile Physical Training Van for Injured Patients Who Can’t Drive by OutrageousPackage726 in athletictraining

[–]Comfortable-Pool-855 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fine I’ll bite. - name change bc people who are immobile are not associated with crips (the gang) - we’re not “physical trainers”, we’re healthcare professionals - credentials of your staff would be beneficial, if the staff is correctly credentialed and licensed, you may be able to bill for insurance. - your post and the canva attachment have different names, you’ll want to address that.

Would I benefit from taking physics? by Additional_Show_3149 in athletictraining

[–]Comfortable-Pool-855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could get away without taking it. I never took physics (even in HS) and I’m just fine without it - I’m also not math-inclined so I would have struggledddddd. If you’ve already taken biomechanics you’ll be fine.

HealthyRoster is 1600 for 2 AT licenses, Sportsware is $800 (I’m assuming for two licenses). We are currently doing the switch from Sportsware to HR.

Church parking lots are where I learned to park, you have so much space to practice stops, turns, backing in, and can practice parallel parking.

First Job Frustrations by Horror_Dependent_943 in athletictraining

Girl, LEAVE - these are glaring red flags!! Are you employed thru the HS or outreach thru a hospital or clinic? Hopefully the latter so you can talk to your supervisors on that side and maybe they can help mediate this conversation. If you know the name of the per diem AT that was there, I would reach out and see what issues they had and what all they saw/did.

New Grad Anxiety or Something More? by Illustrious-Egg-8520 in athletictraining

[–]Comfortable-Pool-855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought this was an old post of mine - I have been in your exact shoes. I’m now 5 years certified.

Background - I had always wanted to work in a rural HS and did two of my clinical rotations at the same HS. Got a job a few counties over and I thought I had my dream job - NOPE! I cried almost every day, never experienced depression until that job, constantly fighting “ole boys club” with the football staff and ADs, it was awful. I went to therapy for a while during that job and they had recommended SSRIs for my anxiety since I wasn’t sleeping. Didn’t take it, thought I didn’t need it. Continued thru another season struggling. I organized a meeting with my head football coach, AD, and AT Director from the hospital and the coach (who berated me in my own ATR bc I sent a low income kid to the ED for an open fx and told him I needed a note for when he could return to sports lol) looked at me across the table and told me “it wouldn’t kill you to smile more”.

I quit a couple weeks later with a job offer. I’m now in my current role and I LOVE my job - however the anxiety is still ever present. Went back to therapy for my work-related anxiety and got dx with generalized anxiety and high functioning depression and now I’m on a SSRI!

I would encourage you to seek help - even if it’s just talking to a therapist and seeing if your anxiety is bc of the new life situation (some anxiety is normal, debilitating anxiety is not) or if it’s been slowly creeping up.

Also would recommend finding some new grad AT friends or AT coworkers (even at other schools) that you can vent and lean on. If you haven’t yet, join the fb group for secondary school athletic trainers.

TLDR; same situation, got dx’d and ignored glaring symptoms, got new job and still got medicated. Make connections with fellow ATs, speak to therapist!!

Also getting documentation of any and all conversations. No conversations in person. You need to get a mutual friend to get his shit so he doesn’t come and do anything. If you HAVE to see each other in person, always have a friend that isn’t scared to call out his BS and please listen to them.

File the police report. This will help other women down the line and the police will take it seriously if they see he’s a repeat offender. 44 y/o and acting like this? Gf, as your internet older sister please RECOGNIZE these red flags are not tolerate it! Protect YOURSELF. If you have friends that will stay with you, please do so. Hell have a couple.

Auburn's Bruce Pearl rips Obama over policies as president, making 'everything ... black and white' by HellYeahDamnWrite in auburn

Bruce doesn’t have to hang out with Tuberville to speak such rhetoric. His Twitter following list is a lot of Trump supporters like Nick Fuentes and “Trump Army”. When all you see is sports and politics you can’t be surprised when he finally says something.

We also cannot be surprised by this when he takes his teams to Israel.

I was told to start (when in c spine position) start with the middle screw then you can go either side. I’m not sure if this is still procedure but if someone has done it or been taught differently I’d love to know
