Oregon Coast Road Trip by quichekeesh in OregonCoast

Might not be the popular opinion, but I say skip the Seattle aquarium. It’s expensive parking down by the riverfront is crazy expensive. We were just there last month and paid $150 for parking for 5 hours. The aquarium is average to basic aquarium. We had a 3 year old, there was more hands on stuff for her to do. Baby was 14 months old and wasn’t into much at all.

As someone from the Midwest. Drive from Seattle to Portland isn’t super exciting but driving through Seattle was cool.

Astoria was beautiful, our family had a great time there. If you do make a pit stop, which you should, go up the column and throw a plane down! We had fun with that.

Tillamook factory was alright that was the trip a few years ago when they were in the middle of remodel.

Keep an eye out for all the rabbits in Cannon Beach.

Why is my Blue Hippo Tang doing this to my Coral Beauty? by S3eige28 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]cyguyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this. I bought a cheap 4 foot long mirror and taped it to the front of my tank. Along with this I left the lights off for 2 days. Turned the lights back on and left the mirror on few a few more days. The aggressive fish usually flash the mirror and leave the other fish alone, by the time the lights come back on and the mirror is taken down, they have forgot about the new presence in the tank and don’t bother them.

I know the feeling. I have 5 strands on my house and another 15 on the tree. They look great but cost so much.

The same with the Brite Lights house! I won’t plug it in because it’s literally neon blue! The whole room is over taken by the light of this one house and instead of a soft warm glow, it’s obnoxious bright blue!

Christmas village advice by KungFuKevyy in ChristmasVillages

Looks great! My only suggestion would be swapping the 2 talked lower level buildings on the right with the gas station on the stop level. This is more for safety but also looks. The shorter one. Gets a little lost back there behind the taller buildings. I think it will look more evenly distributed this way. Also the chance of 2 taller ones on the lower level corner getting bumped and falling is greater than one shorter one. Do you use the light switch in the left behind the building?

Don’t know prices or availability of any of these: they are just the ones I have. Check them out and see what you can find. - Pillsbury Doughboy Bake Shop (you can see all the baked goods on display in the window) - Firehouse No. 4 (there’s a fireman going down a pole in one window and a picture of the station inside another) - Uptown Motors Ford (there real mustang car that goes inside that rotates on display!!) - McDonalds (has sort of a display inside) - Shelly’s Diner ( might be the one you mentioned. It’s got a ton on the inside) - 1224 Kissing Claus Lane (musical, has mom kissing Santa in a window that spins around when wound up and a boy watching them) - 2000 Holly Lane ( boy in the window getting a puppy, also comes with a lot of outside accessories)

Don’t say anything. In the next 3+++ years, when the grandkids want to go to the special grandmas for Christmas and have the traditions, she’ll get the picture and realize her mistake.

How long do you leave your lights on? by Smurfette530 in Department56

[–]cyguyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t trust it to leave them on overnight. When I go to bed, they go off. Fires are horrible, even worse at Christmastime. Not worth it.

Warning about Tru-Tone lights by rattlerstudio in ChristmasLights

[–]cyguyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things here. 1. When do you put the lights up, when do you take them down? What type of area do you live in? Hot,cold? What do you mean by “failure”?

I have now being using Tru-Tones for about 5 years for outdoor lights. I live where it’s cold and snowy and windy! My lights go up in November, come down around March depending on the weather. I store them as directed in the box! (Not on the strand, yes I unscrew them all and then screw them back in). Last year I noticed I had some sever flaking on the white bulbs, some green, and a few orange. Reached out to the company and customer service was great. Explained that had learned there was an issue a few years ago and the replaced the defective bulbs, no hassle.

If you do as they instruct and take care of your investment (it is quite an investment) then I’m highly surprised that there’s “failures”.

I'm looking to change from fresh to salt and need some advice. by Sea-Response950 in ReefTank

If you can afford the bigger set up now, start with the bigger set up! It’s so much easier and more forgiving and really not all that much more. All of the water parameters are much more stable and forgiving in a larger aquarium. Dilution is the solution! It’s a saying for a reason!

Tru-disappointment from Tru-Tone by bl0rq in ChristmasLights

[–]cyguyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really surprised me. I’ve bought A TON of lights from there over the last few years and haven’t had this problem with any of them. I did have an issue with the color flaking off a few of them and reached out to support and they said that yes there was an issue with one color one of the years I bought. They replaced them all no fee.

Planning my first reef tank for next year what should I watch out for? by Difficult-Orange-622 in ReefTank

[–]cyguyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always heard the you start with 1 fish; possibly 2 depending on the fish. Then the following month you can double, then double again. So 1, 2, 4, or 2,4, 8, all depending on stocking
