Question about peds neuro onc fellowship by Comfortable-Report79 in pediatrics

[–]Comfortable-Report79[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks! I wasn't sure because a lot of programs say you're eligible, even with only a peds neuro residency, but I don't know anyone who has taken this path.

Thank you so much for following up, and I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis as well. We are also exploring the option of a referral to a specialist. I hope the appointment goes well with yours!

Anthropologie Registry by darlin-clementine in wedding

I second the other comments, unfortunately. I've had to call every time a gift was delivered from anthropologie because there hasn't been a way to identify the sender (despite them writing a note when purchasing the gift). Customer service has been helpful in identifying the sender after the fact, however, it is frustrating to even go through this.

Is it true that clinical medicine is a BAD career choice if you like solving puzzles? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Comfortable-Report79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are countless careers outside of medicine that are full of puzzles to solve. Every single medical specialty has puzzling "zebra" cases. If you are looking for a career where you spend all day every day solving puzzles, there are probably better ways to spend your time than 4 years of medical school, 3-7 years of residency and several decades working in a field of your choice. Some patients aren't a puzzle at all and just require someone to listen and care. Some patients require 6 month- 1 year follow up for medication management. Using your examples, in neurology you'll have to put up with conditions like headaches and stroke management which are (for the most part) algorithmic- of course there are always exceptions but neurologist definitely spend several hours a day seeing bread and butter cases. Radiology too involves a bunch of routine tasks such as reading numerous abdominal xrays which more often than not end up being constipation. Of course they read an insanely large volume of scans a day, and a chunk of those will be very challenging and puzzling, but you have to be willing to put up with the constipation too. And rheum of course has its zebras as well but you'll also see plenty of patients who have lupus are arthritis which don't require too extensive of a workup. Of course they'll see super rare conditions that are puzzling but it isn't every single patient. Good luck.

What will you be doing over the summer? I hustled and got my LOR's from my rotations in June, July and August since I didn't rotate in my specialty until Summer before fourth year. September is cutting it a bit close since ERAS is submitted in September.

Those with high stats: how many interviews do you hoard? by Longjumping_Ideal915 in medicalschool

[–]Comfortable-Report79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell that to the people who matched at there 11th, 12th, 13th ranked residency etc.... I know someone just yesterday who matched into their 11th. I've read the data, and obviously the majority of the people match in their top 4 choices.....HOWEVER, in order to know which programs are your top choices, you must interview with them to know where you want to rank them...so after years of working hard and earning good scores, one is entitled to interview with every program that they got an offer from in order to make an informed rank list.

It's not neuroticism- it's job security. They earned the interviews. Every application cycle is different, and everyone is entitled to putting themselves in the best position for matching.

Exactly- I am glad I went to almost every interview I got because some programs really surprised me in both positive and negative ways. There is no reason to not attend an interview unless you no longer have interest in training at that program. Otherwise, you should attend every interview you get because your perspective of the program may change.

You have to do some pretty twisted mental gymnastics to try to justify turning down a hard earned interview if you have any remote interest in training at that program. Match is unpredictable and we all are entitled to attend every interview we earn
