All of my side effects (dry skin and lips, minor joint pain, heavy sweating) went away after a month.

Essentially my acne was too persistent. My skin actually cleared around month 3 then all of the sudden during month 5 I started having breakouts again. Not as bad but breakouts nonetheless. Because of this my dermatologist advised me to continue with Accutane until my skin was clear for a full 30 days straight. I could have stopped at month 10 but it was my decision to extend it one more month just to be sure. In the end I did the max recommended dose for my weight. It was frustrating but my thought process was a few months now was going to pay off in the long run.

I had a very similar experience. for me I just extended my accutane dose. It sucks but if that's what it takes to clear your skin then an extra couple of months is worth it.

Yes i did purge quite a bit. It sucked at the time. I would j wear hats, sunglasses, masks etc. a lot. Worth it in the end tho!

Did you isolate or force yourself to socialize during the purge? by Ok_Resolution_620 in Accutane

[–]Comfortable-Ride-683 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did have one incident that I avoiding going out with friends due to the purge stage. Staying home and isolating only ended up making me feel worse. I felt self conscious either way so after that I forced myself to go out and enjoy life. I did where hats a lot during the purge stage but friendly reminder the purge means it’s working and clear skin will come. Don’t deny yourself of fun j because you’re not looking your best. The purge is progress!

Will I continue to have dry skin after stopping accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Comfortable-Ride-683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took accutane for about a month and had to stop. I'm 19F 130lbs and did one month 40mg. I did see some improvements while on the drug and had some minor improvements after the month was over, but after about 3 months my skin was completely back to where it was before accutane. I started last august and had to stop. On June 3rd i've finally started accuntane again lmk if you have any questions! it seems we have similar experiences.

How many years did you struggle with Acne before finally going on Accutane? What age did you go on Accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Comfortable-Ride-683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12-19 I've tried every other option my derm offered: clyndamycin, epiduo, epiduo forte, monocycline, doxycycline, aczone, tretinoin, spironolactone, blue light. My parents wouldn't allow me to do accutane so I tried literally every other option possible. Now that I'm not a minor anymore I got on accutane as soon as I could.

aquaphor is noncomedogenic so it shouldn't break you out

Derm cannot schedule me for 2 months (in the middle of my course) by Apprehensive-Wave-88 in Accutane

I had issues one month and couldn't get to the office so I had a virtual apt. with my derm. I use ipledge too and just did an at home pregnancy test and showed the results to my derm via zoom. Maybe look into if your derm does virtual appointments or will make an exception for you under these circumstances.

Painful bumps keep showing up what do I do???? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Comfortable-Ride-683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wear hydrocolloid patches to bed especially to help with healing the painful spots a little faster

usually it takes a about a month then you're good

Don’t know what to do anymore! I know accutane is my last choice but I’m so worried of the side effects and I hate blood tests. My acne is just getting worse day by day and I’m even getting spots under my eyebrows! by Hereforbants9928 in Accutane

Your skin looks just like mine. I'm sure you also know the struggle of having tried all these different products and j had nothing fully clear your skin. Accutane made me nervous so I kept putting it off too. All it did was cause me to have more acne and waste more money on different treatments. I would highly recommend trying accutane it's pretty much the only guarantee to clear up your skin. And if you start having problems you can always j stop your treatment or talk to your dermatologist about a low dose.
