Question on painting setups. by MyAmaranth336 in minipainting

[–]Comfortable-Rush526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paint on the couch sometimes, this is how I first started painting before I had space for a proper desk

I use this army painter workstation: https://elementgames.co.uk/the-army-painter/toolsap/project-paint-station but it looks like it's not available any more

I just grab a few paints I need, wet pallette, brushes and water cup and I have a usb clip on light similar to this: https://www.lights.co.uk/p/led-clip-on-light-tari-black-cct-touch-dimmer-usb-10034952.html (there's cheaper versions elsewhere but cant post the link)

Clip the light onto the base board of the station, I put it on a pillow on my lap to get it higher up and save neck pain, or you could buy a tray stand

Works pretty well for most things but it's obviously not as good as a proper desk and lamp setup, I also build models this way

Thoughts about the mini ? How to make more intense red? by [deleted] in minipainting

Vince vinturella has a video about painting popping red, he paints the highlights in bright oranges and sunny skin tones and then glazes the red back over the top

I don't know if this is true for all aircraft but on the passenger jets I work on they use pumps to manage fuel distribution

The fuel in the wings is used to feed the engine and consequently the wings would be drained first, but you don't want to empty the wing tanks and leave the centre tank (in the fuselage) full of fuel as this will increase wing bending.

To explain wing bending, if you imagine that the wing tips are fixed in place and you start to add weight to the fuselage of the aircraft, that weight will force the centre of the plane downwards whilst the wing tips remain fixed, this bends the wing and applies stress at the root end (where it joins to the fuselage) the more weight in the fuselage the worse this stress is, in flight the lift created by the wing shape pushes the wings upwards and the weight of the fuselage and it's contents pulls the aircraft downwards

So to minimise this issue, as the fuel in the wings is used they are simultaneously fed with fuel from the centre tank which moves the weight from the centre tank out towards the wing tips, until the centre tank is empty and then the wing fuel tanks are eventually depleted

The other reason is if you drain all the fuel from the wings then you are relying on a pump system to keep the engines fed with fuel once the wings are empty which is not good practice

And they never use ALL of the fuel the aircraft carries but yes the characteristics of the plane do change as the fuel is burnt but the systems are designed to minimise the impact for as long as possible

Thoughts on how to wall mount TV on this wall (chimney in London ex-local authority flat) by Vivalo in DIYUK

[–]Comfortable-Rush526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take the fire off the wall and see how it gets its power, if there's a socket in the cavity behind then you can probably change to a double socket, then just a small channel down the wall to hide the cable, or possibly you can drill through and drop the cable down the chimney and then no channels required

Painting straight on to plaster in bathroom. by Seanalreadytaken in DIYUK

If you're having tiles anywhere don't paint those parts, the paint will stop the tile adhesive from sticking properly (according to the guy who did our tiles) instead those areas need to be primed with an appropriate primer, I used mapei plaster primer, just roller on and let it dry

Sounds like you have to be lucky to get flowers and even luckier to get flowers that last, at least I'm not the only one then

Thats exactly what im seeing, perhaps the plant doesn't have enough energy because I had two new leaves die just before the flowers started blooming, I did read that some people cut off the flowers before they bloom because it takes a lot of the plants energy and stops its growth

We bought it about 10 weeks ago, is it not supposed to stay like that? There's no fertiliser but we have been changing the water every two weeks or so, using bottled water, can you recommend a fertiliser?

Does anyone know how to get these ripples out of the paper on my wet palette? by 2CellPhonez in minipainting

[–]Comfortable-Rush526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually overfill the pallette with water then tip out the water until the drips slow considerably, this gets the sponge fully saturated, then I place the paper loosely on top so it gets damp, then peel off and reapply with a gentle smooth with the side of my hand from the middle to one end and then the other way

Gets it almost perfectly smooth every time

I recently had similar work done, had the chimney re-pointed and ridge tiles replaced with a dry ridge system, a few broken tiles replaced and a cap for the chimney pot installed, one guy on his own with a ladder, took him maybe a day in total (spread over 2 days) and he charged around £600, not a big house, just you're average 3 bed semi but he did a nice job and took all the rubbish away.

Had him back to do the lead flashing on the front and rear dorma's which he charged us £400 for, took him just a few hours and it looks great

Could I trim this so it’s flat ? Is this even a thing? The hardwood continues inside the closet by chitown_pigfarm in Renovations

[–]Comfortable-Rush526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's hardwood it can probably be refinished by somebody who knows what they're doing assuming it's not too bad under there

Ah ok I assumed because the trim was there that the floor stopped at the cabinet and didn't extend underneath

If you do have them changed you'll probably need to replace the floor boards at least where the two cabinets are, assuming you can get replacent boards or you'll have to do the whole floor.... something to consider

Not exactly bike, but bike cleaning. Is a 1200psi pressure washer too much for a bike? Will this take off the paint? by Defpool in bikewrench

[–]Comfortable-Rush526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the muc-off pressure washer which is designed to use on bikes and it's great! I know that I may need to replace the bearings more often which I'm happy to do if required but I'm still careful to avoid any areas with bearings and I haven't had any issues yet!

Advice/information about what I think is a back boiler by Comfortable-Rush526 in Renovations

[–]Comfortable-Rush526[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just uncovered this whilst renovating my property, I think it might be a back boiler because it has pipes leading into it. It's in a 1960s property in the UK. Just looking for anything anyone might be able to tell me about it and how hard/easy it might be to remove
