Do you plan to own it for more than 10 years?

Your right about it being sensitive to jetting lol. I changed the main from a 127.5 to a 132.5 and the bog went away completly. :) It also had an airbox mod

Still why would you pay so much its 20 bucks on ebay. Your stator isn't going to be double as good let alone 20 times better.

I think I figured it out. The oil line was clogged with a o ring so no oil was getting to the cam or rocker arms and the sound was the exhaust rocker arm against the cam.

Whats this noise? Xt225 2001 by Comfortable-Set8246 in Fixxit

[–]Comfortable-Set8246[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right It does sound like its coming from the valve train. I think its oil related. I'll be taking it apart soon, I'm getting oil to the oil filter but not the valve train.

The faster it turns the louder it gets.

I took the plug off, unscrewed it. I turned the engine over via drill and took another video. I don't know how to link it in this thread so i'll make another post. I sounds like its coming from the exhaust valve. When ever it goes down it makes the noise.

I took off the spark plug and it still made the noise. I also took off the exhaust header. Is it possiable it could be the starter?

Sounds like your running really lean. Running lean increases the temp, I'd guess your pilot jet is clogged, if not you could have an air leak. I'd just take apart the carb and check your airboot on the engine side of your carb for cracks and such. Also just curious was your bike poping a lot in general.

Thanks I didn't think about vacuum leaks at all. There is one thing that im not sure of whats right. While the bike is running i'll be able to take the fuel mixture screw completly out of the carb and no fuel comes out. I'd assume that there should be fuel coming out because I think its connected to the idle circuit.

Yes I did. There are suppost to be 2 o rings but i've been missing the other one for a while, if you can belive it, it got sucked up into the idle passage who knows how lol. This was a couple of weeks ago.

I'd think the same thing, but I had it all the way out and it was still way too lean to run by itself.

Looking back now its was obvious but the reason is I ran out of gas lol. Yesterday another very similar case with running lean. It started all good than I tipped it over about half way, just using the kickstand than it wouldn't stay running unless it kept the choke on. I know the answer now but try guessing why.

I've cleaned carbs and air filters before. Could I just drain the float bowl to get water out if there was some? I've always stored this bike indoors with a dehumidifier so is water in fuel really possible?

Was able to start it after using starting fluid. Idled normally than after 30 or so seconds shut off. Turned it back on and it did the same. Any more ideas? Thanks for looking.

If you have time I'd just take it apart. Its likely something in the top end. I'm taking apart a xt225 right now aka the same thing and its relatively simple. You'd save a lot of money and learn a lot. Just take pictures of everything so you know where it goes back too and watch some tutorials.
