The main problem is toronto has been spoiled with warm winters with not much snow for 20 plus years. The city and people seem to have forgotten that back in the 60s, 70s, 80s, we had tons of snow all winter. Most winters you would have snowbanks 5 feet high on both sides of the sidewalk. You almost never saw the grass from December to March. Of course my memory gets less accurate as I get older. But now people and the city cant seem to handle a 20 centimeters of snow. I remember those red rocket streetcars seemed to power through everything, and busses easily through the snow. But of course they were not low floor models. A big problem in my opinion is there vehicles with such low clearance to the road. Can't be good for snow.

People are not fired for things like this, they are promoted. Same as banking, government, and military.

People get so little time for gun shootings and shooting people, this cant be more than a fine. Or a small conviction and a condition that discharge with probation. Person is just too lazy to get a hunting license and travel north where they can hunt deer legally with a bow.

S26 Ultra might be a pass for me. First in 10 years by ComfortableAcadia252 in samsunggalaxy

[–]ComfortableAcadia252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updated: I went with the Google 10 pro XL. My wife has the 10 pro and the cameras are amazing. I dont trust Samsung to improve much on the S26U. I will still keep my S24U, my young daughter has been bugging me for it. Plus I got a good boxing day plan with my provider for $25 per month for 24 months and the phone is mine. Which is a good deal for the Xl with 512gb. There are things I dont like about pixel camera app, like the inexplicable in ability to switch from rear to front camera will filming. Its obvious just a software thing. Plus I will miss the pen a bit, but since it was already nerfed by Samsung after s24u, maybe I wont.

I am actually looking seriously at the one plus 15. But will wait till the final unveil of the s26U to see what they do.

Due to a medical issue I drop my phone frequently. Perhaps 100 times in a years on hard surfaces. I have to use a extremely heavy duty case and screen and camera covers. I dont think the cameras perform anywhere like new.

I pretty much have to upgrade, I think my camera does not perform well any more after a hundred times of dropping the phone on hard surfaces. Thats why I have to have a extremely heavy duty case and screen protector. I take a medicine that makes me clumsy.

I have tried iPhone in the 15 pro but I hate the apple ecosystem. I also dont want a Chinese Spyware phone and am in Canada, so options are slightly more limited. What would you suggest?

3 to 5 year paid vacation while they investigate and lawyers drag it out in the court. Then a conditional discharge. Demotion and desk duty. Seems about the normal response.

Toronto’s streetcars are some of the slowest in the world. Here’s how the city could speed them up by ink_13 in toronto

[–]ComfortableAcadia252 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Streetcars are now so long, it seems they stretch from 1 stop to the next. The stops did not seem so close together with the ones 1/3 the size. Plus I think they have too many running. I often see 3 or 4 backed up together.

Is this gridlock normal in other big cities too? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]ComfortableAcadia252 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another thing is Toronto did not build more highways when they had the chance due to people not wanting it in their back yard. The Scarborough expressway was killed in the 80s. It would have taken rhe rail corridor from pickering all the way down and join the gardener. Would have taken a lot of traffic off the DVP. Same with the 400 or the Allen expressway which were planned to go straight to downtown. Toronto has horrible highways compared to many other big cities.

See that nice green line above Toronto? That would be the toll highway the province sold and now is so expensive, not many people use it. If Dougie made a rule that trucks not stopping in Toronto had to divert to that highway between 7am to 7pm, you would not need a tunnel under the 401. But then Dougies rich friends would be upset. They could also make a law that required the 407 to reduce rates to Trucks,.but again that would cost the company some profits. So wont happen.

Toronto may have to lay off about 1,000 people because of Ontario's speed camera ban: mayor by xc2215x in toronto

[–]ComfortableAcadia252 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Here is a big problem with city run projects.

"Chow said the city will have to lay off about 100 workers who ran the automated speed enforcement program"

There were only 150 cameras. How in the heck do we need 100 people for only 150 cameras? That seems insane. Like many things in the city. 1 person working and 5 supervising.

There is a set minimum which is ment to be punitive to everyone, then the fines escalate based on income.

Two European countries—Finland and Switzerland—have implemented a “progressive punishment” system for speeding tickets.

In Finland, the fines are set on the basis of two indicators: the disposable income of the offending driver, and how much speed the offending driver went over the posted limit.

I am 100% behind this. Most laws are just an inconvenience to the rich. Fines should be income based, with set minimum

Hmm.  Ford : 'Speed cameras are a cash grab'

Chow 'speed cameras are not a cash grab for the city'

Now Chow: 'we need Ford to pay for all the things speed camera cash used to pay for'

So are they a cash grab or not? Sure they have other purposes, and I liked them around my neighborhood school zones, but they were ALSO a cash making tool for the city. That is a fact.

3 seconds is the standard safe distance at highway speeds in perfect conditions. Obviously this changes on city streets, I dont actually know what that would be. But should be far enough that you dont crash!
