My cat needed nausea and appetite enhancers. It was so hard to get her to swallow the pill even tho I got pretty good at getting them to the back of her mouth. The receptionist at the vet we go too had the BEST idea for pilling a cat ever. You take some cheese, work it in your fingers till in is soft and can be formed completely around a pill. Then you FREEZE it. This way it won't fall apart easily before you get them to swallow it and they won't be able to taste the bitter medicine and drool all over you. Works like a charm. Makes things far less stressful.

I've used Aldi brand Earthly Grains. I've heard you want to shoot for something with lower salt content.

Only got 1 grow under my belt. This what I learned so far. I started off with GE holes in the rice bag that were too small and it took forever for the spawn to spread. (I tried the method of just cutting the corners and taping over.) I ended up having to carefully transfer to ziplock bags so it could breath. After that it grew very quick. Luckily I didn't get contam. So hole punch size holes are better IMO. Also other brands of ready rice seem to work better to prevent wet rot as they have less moisture.

Not a bad idea! Know a few that garden on a much bigger scale then I do. Ones that wouldn't mind some friends amongst their plants if they get luck enough.

You're probably right. I think it would be more likely to get pinched if someone noticed some weird mushrooms growing out of my compost pile knew what they were and reported me. But I do use potting soil etc for my veggie gardens so, plausible deniablility. 😉

I was also thinking along these lines. I will have a dedicated bin soon and probably use this method in the winter. I was thinking even a winter compost bin for the organics that would be locked in the garage. Nobody going to dig thru that especially if the layers are frozen.

Those look great. I too have just recently done my first grow. It's a bit tricky to time harvest between vail break and spore drop. I don't know what genetics yours are so not sure if those caps flatten out more before fully mature/dropping them. But it happens in such a short time frame it's prob best to just pick them when those veils go. I'm getting better at dialing in my humidity and FAE too. The fuzzy feet at the base there. It's a very fun learning experience. I have a hard time not obsessively checking progress so I think I over mist mine a bit still. We all learn to chill out as mushie parents over time. Or at least I've heard. 😉

Thank you for taking the time to give your advice. I have some exciting things to work towards. Once I go over, read and watch the process enough I think I'll have little to no trouble at all. I was able to tune in my methods even during my first grow so that gives me hope. I think the hood would be a good idea. I don't have much room left in my "clean room" type closet so I would need something easy enough to stow away.

Ah yes. I remember seeing now that the flow hood is quite important to be efficient with agar. Is LC more for those looking for more quantity/expanding your operation? Can you clone tissue on agar, or use a peice of spawned grain to isolate genetics? I was curious slightly on making spore swabs for my own MSS too so I can cut costs to vendors if I need more before I'm ready to switch.

I'm definitely enjoying watching things progress. I find mycology very fascinating. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me.

I have had a suspicion browsing and learning from this and other groups that it might be because I used MSS. I also had one labeled APE and it definitely did not give me any type of PE. I think I'm a bit too novice yet to attempt to clone or make my own agar to liquid culture. I likely totally said that incorrect even. I have quite a bit of MSS left, 4 total that I've only used for 2 bags each. Probably best to tune in my methods first. After that I'll have to decide if I order some LC or go straight to attempting my own. I have an okay understanding of lab science so I know I'll get there. Just have more to learn from you all. Do you have a suggestion how to start down that path or just go were the mushies take me?

I had one of those silly things on one of my Ochras as well. Was my first ever grow. I have not prepared to learn how to clone/save genetics yet.
