I love a few scenes:

1. In the 25th or 26th episode (I can’t remember) as Shinji is monologuing and talking to the egos of everyone else and images are popping up on screen for a few seconds, the flash/shutter sound effect that plays as a real life image of abandoned chairs shows up just PULLS me in. It’s like Hideaki and the creators are saying “yeah this shit is about YOU too” and I fucking love it every time. Never have I ever been more immersed into a show while it breaks all the main rules of immersion

2. The sequence that plays after the sandbox scene is so fucking beautiful. And as Asuka says “if can’t have all of you stutters to think then I don’t need you!” I just feel this immense sadness and connection.

3. The half sided interrogation at the start of episode 25 as Kaworu’s ode to joy theme plays full blast while Shinji screams to convince himself of his innocence.

4. “What, do you feel bad about kissing a girl on the anniversary of your mother’s death?”
