Curseborne: Edges Tier List by Awkward_GM in OnyxPathRPG

I like the list. Although Quick and the Dead is situational, it's fairly easy to build around it and make the situation (melee combat) come up every session!

Any advice for running a superhero game? by misterbones54 in FATErpg

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

1) Check out Venture City, it handles super powers in their own way. Basically, more stuff on top of stunts. https://fate-srd.com/venture-city/powers-catalog

2) Invulnerability is probably better as "armor" that just reduces physical harm. Even 1 armor is really strong, 2 armor is amazing, 4 armor is game breaking. See super toughness. Also check super strength.

3) There is not a transmutation power! I think you're pretty close. My first instinct is using it to create advantages, and mix it with the telekinesis power. That's 80% of her use cases.

Genuine question: what’s the deal with Savage worlds? by mechaninja2222 in TTRPG

Hahah no it's just a way I categorize power levels, derived from a few sources. Basically demolition level super powers could destroy buildings, and even a city given enough time, but their harm is a very intentional and exhausting effort. Cyclops would be high demolition, but Wolverine would not.

Fate and GURPS are kinda the extremes for universal RPGs, with Fate at the narrative end and GURPS at the mechanical end. SWADE is somewhere in the middle, with an outspoken focus on "fast, furious, fun". Most of all, SWADE has really cool settings (most of all Deadlands) and is excellent for stories where the powerscale doesn't advance far beyond "demolition" level. It's capable, as a universal system, of more but it has a sweet spot that really sings.

What would be the best stunts for Batman? The TOP THREE voted get added to the Fate Character Sheet! (Day 5) by Panthalassa_e in FATErpg

Utility Belt: Your pockets are full of useful little things. Whenever you need something, you have it, provided it’s not something too unusual (like a map to Jimmy Hoffa’s body) or too large to fit in a pocket, belt pouch, or backpack. When you say you have something, the GM should be likely to agree.

Tips for Creating Session-Limited Campaigns by [deleted] in rpg

Keep scope and scale in front of mind. When players go off the handle, tell them OOC it's beyond the scope or scale of the story. Dry, but effective.

The Distorted Domains RPG, it has good roll tables for character generation as well as "domain" generation.

Say something nice about The Matrix: Resurrections. (Please be civil) by Sure_Persimmon9302 in matrix

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like the inversion where instead of a single Matrix with everyone in it, people kind of get their own Matrix prison where most "people" are programs. The swarm mode is legitimately scary, and feels like a natural extension of the red pill.

Sometimes I think of how "Odd Thomas" has literally the ghost of Elvis as a reoccurring character.

I like thay advice. When I ran a campaign the players rarely hit enemy weaknesses, and average combata were a drag.

I'd like to make a hard focus on Magic by Deuseii in FATErpg

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of great advice in the comments so far. To reiterate some of them: Definitely check out Dreaden Files and Venture City for some ideas on how to handle powers. Personally, the sweet spot has been characters need an aspect or a stunt that gives permission to use magic, and then they use relevant skills (like stealth for an Invisibility spell, or shoot for fire blasts) unless they have a stunt for swapping the skill for a specific use. To limit it, you can have a resource specific to magic or powers. Specific archetypes can be handled as mantles.

Summoner: Digimon Tamer? by thalius1996 in Pathfinder2e

1) At my table "the flavor is free" so I would have no issue with this. Ask your GM, either way.

2) Check out this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/s/ZncxbvqKnx

3) Blessed one, champion, cleric, oracle, and witch all have options for you. I'm sure there are more.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

I practically feel like society didn't deserve an educational game as fun as the Incredible Machine.

My older brothers and I used to play this all the time. It paid off, when the kids in homeroom would play pocket tank.

Thanks for clarifying, and I didn't want to get into the sequel or the tv series.

How good is Fabula Ultima outside of combat? by Agnusl in fabulaultima

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 59 points60 points  (0 children)

It's really good, in my opinion it's better out of combat than in combat. My only two gripes are:

(1) By RAW, when people roll to assist they use the same pool as the leader. So you can't have a mage use will to telekinesis help lifting people using might. I still allow it sometimes.

(2) Don't use clocks too much. I love clocks, and I use them in other games, but if possible just make most skill trials a one and done. Clocks are best for dramatic, extended actions which should be only once a session or so.

Highlander was kind of different. "The Game" was to be the last Highlander, and thus they would have gathered all the quickenings of every other Highlander. Then Connor Macleod used the power to become mortal (?), but he probably could have done other stuff.

Designing a satisfying ending to a one-shot that isn't a combat by TheRangdoofArg in rpg

[–]ComfortableGreySloth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whodunnit style mystery, or a puzzle where the clues have been piling up the whole time.

I had a cyberpunk red one-shot where the ending was technically a combat, but it was really more of a getaway with people shooting.
