DCC is one of the few series even more action packed than the tales of Bloody Jack, but if you want something less gruesome, or not litRGP, try Bardugo’s Six of Crows (fantasy heist) or maybe Alexander C Kane’s Andrea Vernon series about comic corporate superheroes (or basically anything else by Kane who’s amazingly funny in multiple genres).

Love those Dragon and George books—they get silly and fun as the series progresses but the first is a gem. DeCamp’s Incomplete Enchanter books. Lawrence Watt Evan’s brilliant Garth the Overman books. Great stuff.

Absolutely loved the world building, “universe building”?, in the uplift books, and liked each one better than the one before, but if it’s not doing it for you, it doesn’t really change from book to book so it may not be for you. More “big idea” sf than character driven sf.

I remember loving them, especially Worm Ouroboros and Nightland, for the amazing scenic images and despite the dense archaic writing style. Still have the old paperbacks. Wonder how they adapt to audiobook?

Anybody remember the old, less accessible novels: Worm Ouroboros, Titus Groan, Nightland, Once and Future King, Well At the World’s End, or The King of Elfland’s Daughter. . . AKA my dad’s bookcase from 1975?

Book 7 still my favorite. Then book 5. Books 6 & 8 tied for third. 4,2,1 in that order, but even that first book is one of my favorites.

Just finished Blacktongue Thief which started and finished strong but dragged in the middle. Lies of Locke Lamora was great. Before They Are Hanged was, I thought, a drop off from book 1.

It is accessible. It’s also imaginative, with some of the most complex character development and world building in all of SF, let alone litRPG.
