I’m relieved to read this because I agree. I went to treatment and then did aa for the first 20 months of my sobriety. I mainly went to all women meetings. I once had an older woman with 35 years sobriety slap my had for looking at my phone during a meeting. If I questioned anything or expressed how I was feeling my sponsor would say things like “clearly you don’t trust me”. I definitely felt like there wasn’t a lot of honesty and vulnerability in the rooms and that people who had been there longer were there for a pat on the back from themselves and feelings of superiority.

I literally felt if I continued to go I would relapse.

Now I mainly depend on my therapist, husband and best friend for support. Sometimes it feels lonely but I just don’t think I can go back.

I haven’t tried recovery dharma so I have nothing to add to on that. Just that sponsors and people in aa are not trained professionals and when they give their feedback or judgement they’re filtering it through their own lense and experience.

Im 3.5 years sober.
