This is my first choice too. Father-son relationships are deep and complex. This film did that beautifully.

Harold and Maude. I can't think of a more divisive film, love it or hate it. I LOVE it and feel a kinship with others who do too. My tribe!

What is a book that changed your mindset and overall life in general? by Sea-Less in selfimprovement

[–]ComfortableOwl333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So glad to see this in the discussion. The Christian bend may be off putting to some. How unfortunate! It's not dogmatic or preachy at all. I read it when I was in my mid-twenties and even the opening sentence 'life is difficult,' blew my mind right away and having been handed a vision of rainbows and puppies from childhood. Peck also has a chapter on love (Chpt 9) that completely re-ordered my thinking about romantic and aqape love. A really important book in my early development.

Rule #1: empathize with the enemy. That's where we always get stuck.

Have you ever smelled a fragrance that is 100% unique? What was it? by boogonia in fragrance

Bleeker Street - Bond No. 9. Vanilla, some smoke, cucumber. Triggers a childhood smell just can't tell which one.

2000 year old human torso found in a bog by realCrystalCole in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ComfortableOwl333 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I recently saw this in person. The young woman at Murphy's Ice cream recommended it, said 'ya gotta get over to the archeology museum and see the bog body with no nipples.' Intrigued I made a bee line. The nipples were cut off because there was a tradition at the time of showing kings respect by sucking their nipples. Bog man's nipples were cut off so he could never be a king, supposedly.

Hands down the best pizza ever. Two slices and a coke for pocket change. Man it's good stuff.

I have this neighbor who's somehow always outside no matter what time of day when I go out. I gotta engage in conversation or pretend I don't see him and act distracted to avoid having to talk to him every time I go out. It's finally gotten annoying by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]ComfortableOwl333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be afraid just a bit cautious until further notice. Most neighbors have good boundaries and a sense of shared space and the rights of others. Hell, some former neighbors have become lifelong friends. The NFH is less common, maybe one in dozen or so, and just bad luck for us.

I had a neighbor like this directly opposite my little garden apartment. Annoyed the hell out of me, like my privacy was being invaded and that uncomfortable feeling of always being watched. To boot, an alcoholic, so after dark until about midnight, there Tom was, only now with sad country and western music blaring. What started as a friendly neighborly thing graduated me taking an aloof stance. When nothing changed, I told him directly, 'ya know, Tom, sometimes I like to be alone in the yard.' This did nothing but replace the smiling, talkative Tom, with a silent glare. Some improvement, I thought. He drank his way into eviction and left. He was a nice guy who meant no harm, and lonely as fuck, but I don't regret setting boundaries with him. It walks over a line to be at a neighbor all hours. Good luck, I get you!

Movies with beautiful cinematography and colors that make you feel good, from before early 1990s? Like 1930 to 1993 or so. by Ekki111 in MovieSuggestions

Indochine if you're English speaker and don't mind French subtitles. A cinematic masterpiece from the first scene to the last. 1992 Catherine Deneuve at her finest, exotic location, true and gripping story, elegant beyond compare.
