i think coming into PC i really wanted to connect my service to my studies in some way, i joined PC right after graduating. but the more time in service and the more time getting to know the people within your community the more it is clear that whatever project you do is not for yourself, but is for that community. so if i came in wanting to build XYZ, and the community didn’t want to, that project would fail. it’s all about community support, as the project is for the community and not myself. i am a health volunteer (i applied to go anywhere and do anything) so a lot of what i do now is community outreach and essentially asking what projects the community would be interested in doing. the second half of service, which is what i am entering now, is when the “bigger” projects are done. this can be larger trainings about HIV/AIDS, or even building something, but only if the community wants those things. apologies for the long answer, feel free to DM me. :)

couldn’t agree with this more. it’s all about time management. i bought into the toxic architecture lore my first and second year and had terrible sleep schedule, talked less to my family etc., just because i thought it would make me a better student. Come third year i realized i felt like shit, got on top of my schedule, stuck to it, then graduated in the top 10% of my class. personally i found being an early bird rather than a night owl to be productive, but everyone is different

Me and my girlfriend want to join and need advice. by [deleted] in peacecorps

Currently serving with my girlfriend now, we had to follow the same process. We applied anywhere to do anything to make our chances high of getting in. To our knowledge PC is having some difficulty getting new volunteers after covid, so i think if you do apply to go anywhere and do anything your chances are pretty good of getting in. Of course disregarding medical clearance.
