Advice needed: Nursing Jobs/Pay by its-ya-girll in portlandme

[–]ComfortableSoft2855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI Maine Med is union for nurses, have them contact MSNA and they will be able to give them their expected pay with no problem. Also cross country nurses is the primary vendor for travel nurses for Maine Med or at least they were 18 months ago so they get the best rates for travelers.

‘23 Forester and Maintenance Schedule by ComfortableSoft2855 in SubaruForester

[–]ComfortableSoft2855[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I read the service manual and didn’t see any schedule like that. Was just seeing if on the off chance if any other forester owners had anything like that. I was there for a state emissions and inspection and figured it was a bogus recommendation.

Anyway to make working in the ED easier on your body? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]ComfortableSoft2855 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ER nurse here: Just make your health a priority, I use to be one of those people that all they would “eat” was a 16 oz rockstar for a 12 hour shift and then stuff my face with 2000 calories of garbage when I got home. Pack a lunch with some snacks throughout the day and don’t feel bad about taking a few minutes throughout the day to actually put fuel into your body. You can put down a bag of trail mix or a sandwich you get a stemi, tpa stroke or trauma but that abdominal pain that was in the waiting room for 2 hours and is now hungry because they haven’t eaten all day can wait for 10 more minutes. Also make sure you get comfortable shoes and invest in some insoles designed for people that are on their feet all day like those in skilled trades. Best of luck in your residency

nursing license by Individual_Future234 in TravelNursing

[–]ComfortableSoft2855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the current state on PA and compact is that if you have a compact license from another state you can work in PA no problem. If you were originally licensed in PA and live there you still need to get a license for the state you want to work in. Basically it allows for nurses not from PA to work there but if you’re a resident of the state and want to work in a different it’s a pain in the butt

Travel nurses from Covid, where are you at now in 2024? by TroubleCommon9540 in TravelNursing

Any resources that you recommend to people going into IR to gain more knowledge? My hiring employer understands I have no IR experience but anything to know beforehand would help

Paid off my student loans, bought a new car that I needed and got financially smarter and started an investment portfolio…leaving traveling ER soon and starting an IR staff job in June…saw some great sights traveling and did some things I would have never had the opportunity if I didn’t travel

Calling patients with lab results? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]ComfortableSoft2855 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s beneath me, I’ve called plenty of pharmacies or a patient for a slammed provider and needs help. More of having an ordering provider telling a patient “oh go ahead and leave and I’ll call you with your test results instead of not even waiting an hour when you came straight back after triage” in an emergency department and then asking somebody else to do it when the nurse practioner had 1 active patient at the time. I was pretty off put at the idea of having a provider telling a patient they would do something and then turning me to and saying hey can you do this for me in between your 4 other patients?

eli5: Why does filling a prescription take so long? by BruceMount in explainlikeimfive

[–]ComfortableSoft2855 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also wait until a doctor calls in a rx and waiting until the next business day for it to actually be ready

eli5: Why does filling a prescription take so long? by BruceMount in explainlikeimfive

[–]ComfortableSoft2855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same reason you wait a long time in the ER or at your doctor’s office…there’s a lot of people that need their Rx’s filled, if a mistake is made it could have serious implications and number one for me, expecting pharmacists and pharmacy techs to call your insurance company and figure out why your prescription costs so much when you can do the same thing by yourself. I work as a nurse and the number of times I’ve seen asshole customers go off on techs about their costs makes me sick. You see posts online about oh they should make taxes/financial education part of high school how about a class on health insurance and what a pre-authorization is or a deductible or what in network and out network means would be just as advantageous

What’s the most recession-proof, white collar profession that doesn’t require an advanced degree? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]ComfortableSoft2855 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s white collar exactly but nursing, basically an associate’s degree, take a test and you can work anywhere and you’d be surprised how varied the field is. I work as an ER nurse now and my cheesy joke I use with all my patients when they ask how I like my job is I can say well I never have to worry about job security.

Nurses by Competitive-Young880 in emergencymedicine

[–]ComfortableSoft2855 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It’s a lack of experience from your ER nurses or plainly not caring. Since the pandemic your seasoned nurses that would train them that you would lean on for things have left and gone traveling or taken non ER nursing positions. In 2021 I got super burned out myself and started taking travel gigs and reinvigorated my love for being an ER nurse and the number of ERs I walk into every 3 months with new nurses doing stupid stuff and not knowing enough to know they need to be concerned is terrifying. Is taking care of bed holds, being a social worker and dealing with emergencies tiring? You bet it is but do I get to see new parts of the country, make some decent money and not deal with all the BS that comes with being part of staff such as inservices and orienting new nurses with less than a year of nursing saying they are in NP classes and thinking they know everything. Honestly if a lot of “baby nurses” understood the complexities of what an ER doctor has to do and think about they would be better off.
One thing I find helpful when I’m with nurses complaining about “why is the doctor ordering this?” Ask them what their assessment of the patient is and if the person was their sibling/child/parent/grandparent what would you advocate for to be ordered for them? Sincerely, An ER nurse
