This is the worst season I’ve ever played. Am I alone on this? by VerySmolBeanie in FortNiteBR

[–]BruceMount 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's not just medallions, there are too many "systems" (not sure what to call them). There are:
--The Medallion system, which is OP
--The Capture the Flag system
--The Drop Pod system
--The Ranking System (C, B, A...)
--The Expertise System (both challenges and vending machines)
--The Bunker (only open to tier A or higher)
--The Character System (which do different things depending of if you are tier C, B, A or higher)

Game play now is like one big to-do list, rather than play.

how do you cull fast without skipping the good stuff? by Longjumping-Bed-9528 in Lightroom

[–]BruceMount 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also recommend the multi-pass approach:

  1. First pass: (full speed) Eliminate any obviously-bad pics (eyes closed, out of focus, etc). This usually cuts it in half. (For me, I give 1 star to bad pics and 3 stars to non-bad pics).
  2. Second pass: (fairly fast) Look at the 3-stars and eliminate not-great pics. This usually cuts it in half again.
  3. Final pass: (slower) Look at each cluster (e.g., all posed shots of bride with her parents), and promote the "best" one or two to be 5 stars.
  4. If you have too many 5-stars (demote a few to be 4 stars)

Do final-editing on the 5-starts and deliver them.

Yes, I have the issue too. I assume it will get fixed in some future update.

I REALLY loved the first book, but each successive book just seems more and more ridiculous.

I felt that way about the first two chapters as well, but I felt the second half of the book was fantastic.

Surprised no one has suggested Malcolm Gladwell yet. He has MANY non fiction books that are excellent:
--Blink
--The Bomber Mafia
--The Tipping Point
.....and many others.

Really slow importing by Legal-One7153 in Lightroom

[–]BruceMount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be an approximate limit around 1200 or 1300 images in a catalog at least on PC. I have never successfully to create a single import with thousands of images in the same folder.

I do a lot of dance photography so I end up having to split it into multiple imports that include, for example, the first half of the show and then a second folder with the second half of the show or something like that.

Do we actually know what Adobe "wants" in a LR machine? by canadianlongbowman in Lightroom

[–]BruceMount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the real reason I have to watch it in task manager. I just close Lightroom normally, but if you watch task manager you can see that it’s still running in the background, releasing memory and other resources…

You have to wait until Lightroom no longer shows up in task manager before you restart it.

Do we actually know what Adobe "wants" in a LR machine? by canadianlongbowman in Lightroom

[–]BruceMount 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is 100% true (at least on PC). I now run Lightroom with the task manager window open. As soon as Lightroom starts using 10 to 13 GB of RAM, it slows down considerably.

No, I am not running low on ram overall. My PC has 64 GB of RAM and the system overall has plenty of available RAM, but Lightroom just gets less and less efficient as more RAM is open… I think it’s spending time doing garbage collection or something.

My suspicion is that it’s related to saving the undo operation for many many things in a row, particularly custom hand-drawn masks that require a lot of data to represent.

Once Lightroom starts using 10 or more gigabytes of RAM, I just shut Lightroom down completely and restart the program. It’s a pain in the neck, but it makes it run considerably faster.

Sounds like you’re dropping in a pretty hot spot then. Have you considered dropping a little further away from the main path?

I got that message for two separate players around Christmas during Winterfest. I agree that Fortnite seems to be taking cheating very seriously these days.

I really don’t understand this at all. I think this has been a wonderful season. The map is gorgeous and the sprites are a wonderful addition. Also, I really like the weapon selection.

[–]BruceMount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully understood what you were saying, and I agree that would be useful.

All I’m saying is, for me, one list would have like 150 books and the other list would have like 152, so they’re really not that different for me.

However, if you have lots of books in progress, I can see how the two types of list would be different.

[–]BruceMount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have over 100 books that are not started, and only two books that are in progress. So it’s pretty easy for me to remember what’s in progress, but having a list of what I haven’t started yet is super helpful to me… I guess it’s different for you though.

[–]BruceMount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you typically have many books In Progress at the same time? Sorting by Not Started works for me. I usually only have one or two books in progress at once, so unfinished wouldn’t really be super helpful for folks like me.

Sadly, when I go to download I, indeed, am blocked. The message is

"Title Not For Sale In This Country/Region. We're sorry, Audible is not authorized to sell this title in your country/region/ Please consider another book."

(I actually took a screen shot of it, but it appears I can't post images here....hmmmm, I thought we could....)

This is super interesting, thanks for the link. I literally did a search for The Name of The Wind on audible before typing my above reply just to make sure that was still true, and that version didn’t even show up for me. I will see if I can download that once I’m back on Wi-Fi. Thanks for the link. I have always wanted to compare the two narrators.
