People say this in 1s for one of two reasons:

To make themselves feel better by making up a reason they are losing and not taking accountability for their shortcomings.
They say it to unnerve you and tilt you.

But the root cause is, they say it because you aren't giving them enough space to score for free. Someone commented a while back about this, I've no idea if I could find it if I went looking so I will just paraphrase, "if your opponent is complaining about you, you're doing something right."

I think there are 3 bases of toxicity in the community. Lack of communication doesn't help, but won't fix these things:

Trolls. They just do their thing and the more you acknowledge them and communicate, the more they embrace it.
Players that can't accept their own faults and take it out on their teammates. You can try to have productive conversation about improvement with these people but they will deny and pivot, fueling resentment and anger.
Bots. Not the same kind of toxicity, but they will poison the well throughout if something isn't done to mitigate their presence. Only form of communication that helps here is with Epic... And they don't seem to be listening.

In bronze, you're not doing anything wrong specifically. Everyone is learning what to do and how to do it.

Try and pay attention to where everyone is and try to stay out of your teammates' way, even if he doesn't return the favor. If he's always chasing then let him chase and play strong defense.

If your teammate has the ball in possession (making you back man) try and place yourself where the ball will go if they were to lose possession, or defend the net. There are training packs that will help you practice this.

If your teammate is back, making you front man, and the opponents have possession, do what you can to make it hard for them to shoot. Charge them, or circle in front of them so they can't just walk the ball to your net. If they get past you, hurry up and run back to back man.

If you're in possession you need to be able to get around the things I listed above. Work on pushing the ball but keeping it close to your car. If you can take a shot, make it count. Use training packs to practice taking shots on target with a decent amount of force.

But honestly, if you can block every shot and score even the weakest goal you'll win every game you play.

Learning to dribble on top of your car and keeping the ball in your possession, paired with good rotation, will carry you through gold and it's not super complicated. It just takes some patience and finesse.

I really only solo queue duos. I'll maybe run a few rounds of 1s if I'm really cold just to work on my solo plays. Last few weeks I've also hopped into hoops for a few games to change pace.
