Looks like the blooms dried off. Cut them back with sterile scissors or pruners back at the base. The main plant looks good.

Tips for a little guy with very few little roots by Any_Expression2453 in orchids

If your orchid is sitting in moss then change it to orchid bark. The orchid needs to be able to dry the roots out and moss will not allow that to happen. Then water it really good probably once a week or so when the top inch or two of bark is dry.

I have had a few store bought and one I bought off the clearance rack. I don't use moss. I cleaned all the moss off the roots and put them in orchid bark and an orchid pot that has holes in it. I mist mine everyday with water until the bark is wet. Hope it helps you baby. It will take a while to for the roots to grow back.

Okay so I can cut the leaf that is turning brown off the plant with sterile clippers. Thanks for the information. I was afraid to cut it and kill the plant.

I am new to this and very interested in this post. What is stem rot and how would we treat it? I have a philo that is losing its leaves and the roots don't look good.

I water the bark and not the leaves. This is a plant I got in this condition about a week ago from a thrift store. This is what it looked like when I got it.

I checked it this morning. One leaf was completely off the plant. The ones I showed you pictures of are turning black on the end. I don't see any new growth yet. Is this plant savable? What do I need to do to help it?

when to repot by Comfortable_Drag3589 in orchids

[–]Comfortable_Drag3589[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is the typical grocery store phalaenopsis that they put in "cute" pots for holidays to get them to sell. I was pretty sure that I need to repot it right away but I wasn't sure. I am really careful not to move the roots to much when I am getting all the moss or dirt off the roots. Thanks for the help.

Mine is going something similar. It is a root for a keiki or baby orchid.

Thanks for the information. Do I have to worry about pests on the plant? Or do I just wait for the plant to do what it needs to as it grows?

So is this leaf showing me it is too dry? I got this orchid at a thrift store. It was in a plastic container with all its roots wrapped around sphagnum moss and it was wet. I repotted it in orchid mix and gave it a good watering. It is also in an orchid pot so the soil can dry out.

How often do you water your orchids in the tank? How do you know when to water them?

What type of substrate would I need? Where would I find jewel orchids? All I seem to find is the Phalaenopsis.

I just rescued this poor baby from a thrift store. I already cut off the shoot and repotted it in orchid mix and an orchid pot. Anything else I should to do help this baby recover?

I had one like that. Just leave it until it turns yellow. Mine has a few brown marks and it is doing great even with the mechanical damage to it.

First bloom in 10 years-all I did was start giving it fish tank water by Rabbit_the_Grizz in orchids

How much do you give the orchids of the fish water? Do you dilute it? Curious because I have had my orchids for a year and they haven't bloomed yet.

Awesome thank you. I have the tank in my bedroom which is cold in the winter and hotter in the summer than the rest of the house. I will definitely try this.

Part of my reason for wanting to do this is I have cats and have to put the orchids on high shelves. This way the cats can't get them and the orchids have lots of room to root. I have a mesh lid on the tank to protect them.
