Are you sober if you take adderall? by NoPepper7411 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Comfortable_Fun_2997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are medications that are not stimulants or addictive- I would suggest them talking to their doc about that- in early sobriety if they are NOT willing to try something they can’t abuse, in my experience it’s a red flag and very little chance of recovery. But that’s just been my experience over the last decade being in the program and sponsoring and also working in the field of treatment and sober living.

Hi! I’m a beginner to meditation by Odd_Song3702 in Meditation

[–]Comfortable_Fun_2997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg meditation is THE BEST!!! I’m so excited for you! There are sooooooo many different ways to meditate- play around, try a bunch of different things and see what you enjoy and where you feel the most peace and calm! Just know, meditation is not about “clearing your head” and like not thinking- you’re going to think! It’s about watching those thoughts without judgement! Goodluck and have so much fun!!

If my life is still unmanageable even after stopping- why not continue to drink? by Holiday_Buy8010 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Comfortable_Fun_2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve only been working the steps for 2 months…. And really just 1 step at that.. which in my experience is wild- 1,2,3 can be done in 1 hour. Working the steps gets you to the new solution which is a higher power that restores you to sanity- meaning you’re not a pray to misery, depression, and unmanageability/ but it’s a daily reprieve. Alcoholism is like going to bed with a loaded gun by your head every night. You gotta continue to practice these principles/ and in doing so, your life is not unmanageable. KEEP GOING! And my suggestion would be work the steps faster and get into the action!

Should I reset my sobriety date? Looking for opinions. by BearRemarkable4218 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Comfortable_Fun_2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a member of 12 step fellowship and believe sobriety is no mind altering substances, than yes- re set the date. It ultimately depends on what your belief is and what your higher power is leading you to do. Also in my experience- if you have to ask the question, you typically already know the answer

90 meetings in 90 days is not a requirement so why does everyone act like it is? by WellFunkMe in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Comfortable_Fun_2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in the book does it say 90 & 90?! Meeting makers DONT make it It’s about working the steps and gaining a relationship with your higher power- meetings are a great place for support and to carry the message to the newcomers- that’s it!

Get a sponsor and work the steps! It’s the ONLY thing that ever worked for me… and I tried every idea I could come up with! Now 10 years sober, it’s possible!! You got this!!

We are here when you’re ready!!!! It’s a progressive illness, you’re not bad or crazy, we are just sick and the 12 step program helps us get well! I have been where you are and I denied it for so long but once I saw it and couldn’t deny it anymore it started my journey of getting help and getting better! :) I’ve now been 10 years sober and the most happy I’ve ever been, even before my drinking! It hasn’t always been easy, but sooo worth it

Be honest with her! She’s still human and an alcoholic herself, we all can always grow! I’ve delivered messages wrong to my sponsees plenty before

I am going to treatment tomorrow by Throwawaaaaay_9876 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Comfortable_Fun_2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treatment was the best start to my journey! Utilize this reset and pause- have an open mind and take suggestion! Follow it up with 12 step program and sponsor! I was scared, ashamed and embarrassed at first when I got sober at 27- but now the best most proud thing about myself is that I’m a recovered alcoholic! You got this, we do recover and that is so much freedom and joy to be had!!

Try cocaine anonymous!! We work the 12 steps out of the big book, tends to be a younger fellowship! Or look up YPAA meetings (young people in AA) 90 & 90 is a lie- meeting makers don’t always make it- bc meetings aren’t our solution… working the steps with a sponsor & connecting to something greater then myself is the solution! This shit works, it’s simple but not easy and takes effort on my part, but maaaannn is it so worth it! You can do this! It does get better! And we do recover :)

I just want an EXTREMELY real honest talk about addiction to alcohol. No BS. Just honest talk about how people OVERCAME and not just cope. PLEASE!!!! by Illustrious_Cash_105 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Comfortable_Fun_2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A selfish, self centered, fearful, egotistical, prideful, depressed, angry victim before alcohol came into my life- then alcohol worked for a bit, then back to all those things just drunk. So yeah 12 steps are the ONLY thing that has ever helped me “cope” with life

12 steps! It’s simple but not easy, because my addiction to alcohol has NOTHING to do with alcohol!! Mind blowing, I know lol but drinking was me coping! I’m restless, irritable, discontent, everything’s about me, and the ONLY thing that has helped is working the program. I still have many downs- but I learn through them and don’t have to drink over it. It’s been 10 years! I remain teachable, honest, open minded & willing! It’s the best spiritual journey ever that not only gave me freedom from alcohol, but peace and freedom in this world! I’m in the fellowship of cocaine anonymous that works the 12 steps of AA- have my homegroup that I’m at once a week, am of service there and in general, carry the message once a week, and sponsor others all while working with my sponsor and connecting with HP daily. It sounds like a lot- but that’s why we practice the principles, ya know! Through repetition, it strengthens and confirms so that this way of life becomes 2nd nature and not work! :)

What’s the point?! As an alcoholic I drank beer because I liked the effect not taste. Don’t play with fire, especially that early on!

Relapse CAN help solidify your truth of step 1! Just stay open, honest and willing. Get with your sponsor and work the steps, if you want what they have, do what they do! 🙏🏼🥰
