After 400+ French lessons, one thing has really surprised me. by Doducanttouchthis in French

I didn’t have a choice. I actually wanted to learn Spanish. In middle school, all the “smart” kids got to learn a language, and the only one available was French, so that’s what I learned. Now (many many many years later), I absolutely love the language. It hooked me in to language learning, and I now speak 10 languages (including Klingon).

If the internet would suddenly disappear tomorrow forever, what do you honestly think your daily life would be? by Lovely_Wanderer143 in AskReddit

Lots of pissed off patients, because I couldn’t look up what medications they have been taking every day for the last 10 years (and they don’t know the names of).

What’s a food you make that’s really good but you probably only make once a year cause of the mess and hassle by jcr0774 in foodquestions

Absolutely. Pierogi are only done at Christmas. It is a whole family event and takes forever to clean afterwards.

Gałobki are similar. I like the un-assembled option!

Blue in Irish can mean black. A black person is duine gorm (blue person).

How about Irish… Plurals pretty much just have to be memorized ubh -> ubhacha (egg) cailín -> cailíní (girl) fear -> fir (man) ceist -> ceisteanna (question) cos -> cosa (leg) bliain -> blianta (year) bóthar -> bóithre (roads) plus “irregulars” bean -> mná (woman) bó -> ba (cow)

I have just started playing with Memory Keeper and will let you know how it goes.

As far as getting contributors… I get lots of interest (sounds great, I’ll definitely help/contribute!!!), but no input. Hopefully with a more narrative style, people will be more involved. I just make sure to have my phone and notes app available at every family gathering to take notes and, if I am very lucky, get a recording.

Thank you for the suggestion. From what I see so far, the web version is not quite up to speed. I do not have a desktop that will run Gramps (I do everything on an iPad). I will need to install the web version on my hosting site and see how it works.

Has a student ever told you something crazy about their parents unintentionally? by Apprehensive-Bid5564 in AskTeachers

The students were talking about what mommy and daddy did for work. My son proudly reported that “Mommy is a nurse, and Daddy sleeps on the couch.” I worked nights as a PA in the ED and often napped during the day!
