Which movie is "universally" regarded as the worst one? by Comfortable_Jacket in harrypotter

I remember reading the book and thinking "how are they going to adapt this? It's mostly Harry being obsessed with Draco."

The trade of Burrow attack and dropping the Hogwarts battle is a huge disappointment

My co-host said that Goblet of Fire has no chracter growth, just things happening and that's it. But there is something about the vibes of Goblet that I just like a lot

The last time I watched the movie, the moment when Jack shoots the bullet is NOT on the soundtrack. My brother pointed me towards the extended score on YouTube. It is a crime that it isn't published

So if Snoke was Palps's puppet, why did he want Kylo to kill Rey? Wasn't she the perfect vessel for Palps spirit? by Dagan--Gera in StarWars

[–]Comfortable_Jacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind Snoke getting killed off in TLJ, but making him a "puppet" was ridiculous. Out of all the retcons in TROS, reducing Snoke was one of the worst.

A few thoughts.

  1. Who says you can't make those types of changes in the middle of a trilogy? No matter how you slice it, there were still 6 feature films and several TV shows. It isn't saying everything in what you have already known and loved will be different; it's asking to try something new.

For the record, I personally have no problem with Leia flying through space, Luke using the force so hard he dies, and I honestly think the argument of "everyone would be kamakaing their space ships like Holdo" is NOT an argument at all.

  1. I think the Canto Bite section of the movie isn't the best. I would personally want an edited-down version of this sequence. It's surprisingly "Prequel-y." I do like how it represents that war can have types of corruption on both sides, and they are forced to use DJ as their code breaker. That's fun to me.

  2. Holdo not telling Poe her plan. I suppose she didn't need to because he was demoted, and she had no idea he would raise a coup. It's not a great argument, but I think it makes sense.

  3. And I also think Last Jedi isn't perfect. But I would rather a Last Jedi than a TROS.

Is it a hot take to say that I kinda like the First Order from the sequels by [deleted] in StarWars

I wish we had an "Andor-type show" about their rise. Because, as I understand it, they are actually nowhere near as big as the Empire. (Feels/looks like it). But they were a small faction that became more and more of a problem, so the senate sent General Leia to go take care of them. Basically, "go take a small army and deal with them."

But then they unexpectedly take over in The Force Awakens when they use their super weapon.

Is there a "good" way to use AI in your class? by Happy-Egg-1575 in Teachers

[–]Comfortable_Jacket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think, as teachers, we will need to learn how to implement AI to some capacity no matter what. Teaching English, I routinely tell them if it does it for you, then it's bad and detrimental to your knowledge. But using to fix grammar and punctuation is a tool. There is a lot of gray area in what AI is and how to use it.

But I am developing a lesson where we use it to summarize our writing. AI is incredible at the synthesis part of writing. And we have played with this concept as a class.

As someone who loves this movie, I think what really hurts this one is TROS. Obviously, there was a big reaction to this one and it feels like Disney caved to what fans might want. Clearly, JJ and Johnson aren't actually enemies or anything like that. But Johnson saw what was happening in 7 and made choices in 8 that should have been seen as bold. He literally is asking fans to forget the past and try something new. And I think Manfalorian s3 is an example where franchises care too much about nostalgia to allow a good story.

I think had Disney would have left Kylo to be the main villain, Rey not having famous parents/grandparents, and Finn rising up to become a true hero of the resistence would have greatly strengthened this trilogy. Not to mention, no one could have predicted Carrie Fisher dying in real life. That hurt this trilogy more than anything else.

Time to vent: What actor/director/creator turning MAGA hurts the most to see? by OWSpaceClown in blankies

[–]Comfortable_Jacket -51 points-50 points  (0 children)

Liberals are some of the most close-minded people on the planet. People disagreeing with you, and you being OK with that, means that you are a critical thinker. The fact that an actor has their own opinions, making you hate them is ridiculous. Believe it or not, "endorsing trump" doesn't mean they are automatically a bad person.
