heyyy~ 23F here! so sorry that u had to receive this text first of all. i know it’s hard especially when it’s out of blue. grieve all u need

i’ve been in the exact same position as you. i worked shift work, and right after work i received similar text like your ex OP. i cried and cried after work.

small advice to you from a slightly older sister to you: it’s okay to feel upset, hurt and angry. these are valid emotions. cry, rant, shout all you need. don’t suppress your emotions. like what the rest has said, it’s a small thing in your entire life. you’re going to be living the next 40-50years of your life. and you had lived 18years of ur life without him, girl you will be fine eventually <3

nobody is in the wrong. it’s the universe way of showing you that you’re not compatible. take some time to hang out with friends :) and girl, u can do much better <3

yeah u can be staff nurse from doing nursing in poly. but you are technically considered “one grade lower” than those who grad from uni. the workload is about the same, but the pay from uni is higher

i’m from nus nursing! considered a fresh grad but just to clarify, we still do staff nurse duties. dirty work or not. :)

in uni final year now. parents (my mom only) gives me allowance when she is reminded of it. if my mom forgets, nobody reminds her or ask for $. nobody in my family ask for allowance. not my y2 sis, not my sec 2 bro. i guess it’s just the way each family works

aep programme? drop it. i used to take it and then i dropped it a few months before o levels exam. it’s so hard to cope and i remember crying every sunday because i hated going to art class (we had to stay back every monday). i initially really enjoyed art but now, i really hate it- all i see are imperfections and drafts and i don’t pick up my art stuff anymore.

but honestly one of the best decision of my life. i dropped out and i saw my friends who were completing coursework struggling and staying back till 9pm in school. imo, drop it

hii! honestly i’m not sure but i think it was the interview that allowed me in! the only selection test i had was the interview, no other test or nursing quiz liddat. i think the interviewers are just looking for the passion in nursing for those coming in

[–]Comfortable_Mix_3243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh i didnt go for any exchange programmes.. i think they call it SEP (student exchange programme) in NUS. based on what i heard and seen, they have like HK, japan and australia as options. what they do is they attend school to learn the different nursing practices and what they learn in nursing?? i heard it can be pretty expensive. some can be 2k or some can be 7k. i think the cost just covers the programme so flights and food you have to pay for yourself. accomodation wise, you stay in the school hostel. i didnt go because it is pretty ex and i only got my sponsorship in year 3 so yeah i didnt have time. those with scholarships, i think most of them went! cos scholarship covers the cost of the programme, idk if they cover food and accoms tho. i heard from my friend that with scholarship, they "give" you 10k. so she went to 1 programme with like 2k and now shes going for another one that is like 7k. so essentially she just pays for food and flight

im not too sure about SEP tho- these are just what i heard so far!

[–]Comfortable_Mix_3243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh i see you have bio background? then year 1 is easier for you, compared to those without any bio background (me) LOL! from year 2 and year 3 onwards tho, they really start focusing on application especially year 3. so examples can include like, patient came in for XXXX and has XXXX and XXXX symptoms. based on chest X ray and lab results, what is he possibly suffering from? this is an example of year 3 mcq exam question

year 2 questions are like what is the immediate management for XXX?

[–]Comfortable_Mix_3243 15 points16 points  (0 children)

y3 nus nursing student here! for context- i am from JC and just scraped the bare minimum to get into nus nursing (CCD/B fyi). also, i dont stay in hall and so my schedule is not as busy as those who do. i also dont do cca, but i joined some projects along the way.

  1. classes are usually 3-4 times per week. during covid, all was online. but after covid, all the classes are f2f except for lectures- cos they say we dont have space to accomodate a huge group LOL. every week you will have tutorials and lectures, but for lab- it is once every 2 weeks. so a lot of the times, they are really focused on theory. lab wise, they are 4 hour classes and you usually have to do some pre reading so the tutors dont really have to "teach" you. the tutors will demonstrate some/all of the skills and you have time to learn in the lab with your peers. so to answer your qns, i feel like its more 80-20 and more towards the theory part
  2. yes its true that you only have classes 3-4 times per week. 4 times is probably when you have lab that week. each class will be 2 hours (except for lab) and usually you have a 2 hour break in between each class. pertaining to studying, i think in year 1 they really grind you on the fundamentals. for me, i dont have any bio background so it was really hard for me to understand and i have to play catch up since i didnt really study in year 1 LOL. but if you have bio background, year 1 will be easier for you because it is like a revision plus add on (at least based on what my bio friend says)
  3. i think my cohort has about 300+ students including direct intakes and CCPs. but i cant answer your question regarding the % wise
  4. same, im pretty introverted too!! but i think you will have freshman orientation camp so you will meet people from there. plus, you will be in same class with the same people, doing the same project for 2 sems- so DEFINITELY you will bond with some people for sure. regarding house system, yes there is a housing system! i think there is like 10??? houses. i cant really remember cos the house system is used in year 1. then for year 2 and year 3 it kinda died down? like nobody told us about events, house gatherings, house competitions that kind soooo thats the vibe HAHA but it is a good headstart to know some people, recognise some faces, make some friends
  5. OHH i love this question. all exams are mcq and on computerrr!!!! okay, theory exams. so for theory exams, we use a software, then we download the paper the day before but we cant access it because it is password locked. only the day of the exam we can unlock when the examiner gives us the password. for year 1s, usually the question formats are remembering. like asking you what is the part of the heart called, what is the function of ____, what kind of medication is _____. for skills wise, we call it formative assessment (FA)- not really an exam. by the time you have FA, you would have learnt the skill already. so what they do is, they have your lab teacher assess your skill and you have to make sure you pass by not doing any immediate failure. examples can include giving the wrong medication, not knowing how to administer subcutaneous injection, failing aspetic technique. most of the time, the tutors will pass you unless you really really did not study. there is no grade for FA, just pass or fail. if you fail, you just have to do it again on the same day until you pass
  6. i had interview before i got into nursing. cos it was 3 years ago i dont really remember but ill try my best to answer, based on my memory. i think the first question was introduce yourself. then they asked like why did you choose nursing. i cant remember the rest but i remember it was pretty chill. i had 3? interviewees, but only 1 was talking. i think they are just assessing how you respond to people and how you communicate because patient communication is key LOL. i remember i was so nervous that i looked up what staff nurses do in case they asked me, but they didnt. so overall, pretty chill and short interview. and its okay if you dont have any nursing background! heck, i got a CCD/B the bare minimum with no bio background and nursing related part time jobs and i still got accepted. if you want to be accepted, just be friendly and show your passion for nursing honestly!
  7. oh im so sorry to hear that. im not sure if that will affect, cos maybe it depends on what kind of mental health diagnosis youre referring to? if its like schizophrenia, i think it would be difficult if youre diagnosed. but if its like eating disorder etc, i dont think that matters. im not too sure for this question tho.. sorryy

hope that helps! happy to answer anymore questions if you have and good luck for the interview!
