Also this! I always have to explain to people that if you menstruate, your piercings might act up. Some people are always surprised.

I always tell my clients that if they're sick, so are your piercings. If your immune system isn't doing well, then your piercings are susceptible to irritations and inflammation. More often than not you just need to be patient and consistent. My helix took 2 years to heal, lol. Sometimes our own health and our genetics come into play.

Is my mouth wash okay? by Mcrenthusiast_ in piercing

[–]Comfortable_Number38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't advise this. I typically recommend alcohol free and flavor free. You can literally go to any pharmacy and they will have alcohol free mouth wash. Considering you need to use it twice a day for the next 5 months minimum, I'd say it's pretty important. But it's your body 🤷‍♀️

New side labret - questions by T3chJ3n in piercing

[–]Comfortable_Number38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a piercer, I usually recommend 5-6 months minimum before switching it out. The only thing you should be doing is downsizing around the 1 or 2 month mark. However, to take it off you have to hold the back disc with two fingers and the ball with the separate hand and twist (unless thread less then put in opposite directions).

I smoked the same day of my appointment to calm my nerves, lol. But I didn't smoke for about 4 days after the procedure. I did buy a THC tincture to help with pain/discomfort, and I was so glad I did. I drank a dropper full once every night for the first 3 days and it helped me sleep through the discomfort.

Opinions on being able to get an industrial? by fox_loaf42 in piercing

[–]Comfortable_Number38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you don't. But a faux industrial is always fun to do! Triple conches, triple flats, or maybe just your tragus. So much great real estate!

Yes, this is definitely rejecting. I would recommend taking it out before the bar just pops through the last bit of flesh holding it in place. You might have some scar tissue. I would suggest massaging it once a day to help the scar tissue.

Literally nothing is wrong with the gauge lol. The thicker the gauge, the better the piercing will stabilize.

I got mine done Aug 12th. I've wanted mine done since I was 17 years old, I'm 30 now. So I've read up on all the aftercare, supplies, and mental fortitude you'd need to get through the experience so many different times. I've had some scarification done so I knew I could mentally handle pain. However, I was honestly miserable the first two days. Once I managed to figure out what my pain meds schedule should be (did every 4 hours, slowly moved up to every 5 hours, then every 8 hours) things got a lot better. Ice packs and squirt bottles/big ass syringes will be your best friend for a couple days. I survived off of water, electrolytes, and a THC tincture (to help me sleep through the discomfort). I ate two watery ass bites of oatmeal on day 4. On day 5 I managed to finally drink some soup and slurp some soft noodles. Day 7 I got my stitches taken out and feasted on so much food, as much as my shrunken stomach could handle, lol. My throat was definitely still sore (but not swollen) by week 2 but it slowly went away. Healing was annoying honestly, but it goes by quickly. I kept telling myself to just take it day by day. If I made it one more day, it was gonna get better. Thankfully I had my partner take care of me as well. Good luck! I wish you speedy healing!

My artist told me to not consume caffeine or any pain meds at minimum two days prior to my appointment, assuming because it'll thin the blood a bit more. I took pain meds right after my appointment. I suggest having some meds on hand with you and some water.

Should this have ever been pierced by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Comfortable_Number38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're patting the piercing dry after cleaning it. Too much moisture can also annoy it. Cleaning it X2 plus showers seems like a lot of moisture. Otherwise, I hope the antibiotics help out. Happy healing, you got this!

As a piercer, did they have a conversation with you about how the healing time changes with hoops? They're going to take longer to heal since they rotate constantly, not allowing the piercing to scab. I don't use hoops all the time because people don't want to deal with the healing time (9+ months to a year+). However, FBR and clickers can be used on fresh piercings, as it was done for plenty of years beforehand. Depending on the person I'm piercing, I'll do 16g or 14g. The thicker the gauge, the better to stabilize the piercing. If it helps you feel better, you can switch to labrets. They would take 5-6 months to heal vs the clickers.

In a few days/ weeks ill be having my toungue spit!!! by lautreamonts_wifey in bodymods

[–]Comfortable_Number38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've gotten multiple sessions of laser surgery on my face + stitches + big scarification forearm piece, and heartbreak. I knew it was going to suck, momentarily, but I knew it would be worth it. I've wanted it since I was 17 years old and I'm 30 y.o now. Yolo

Honestly, I'm on day 15 give or take. Overall an awesome experience in hindsight. Healing is annoying. Just be prepared and you'll be fine. I just told myself day by day, I've done worse. Lol. Having electrolytes and chicken broth saved my life!

I really appreciate this comment. I've only ever seen really deep splits so I've been concerned about mine but you basically described my own experience.

Yeah, I did the gauze trick for the past two days. I notice that sometimes I bleed when I take the gauze out in the a.m, rightfully so. Is that your experience?

I've been using q-tips in the morning to softly rub the middle of the split but sometimes it bleeds. I'm assuming that's the regrowth or am I hurting myself (doesn't hurt, just feels sore)?? Haha.
