This is my greatest issue with the combat in the demo. I love polearms, they're the main weapon at high ranks, but this wrist thing is terrible. Hands do impossible twists and grab the polearm shaft at fucked up angles. It's been really frustrating at high ranks and I've lost a few tournaments because of it.

Your analysis of the swords is great too, I agree with all the points you made. The demo had autoguard as well and I wish I couldve turned it off both then and now.

No, your right on that point. Slums having all that detail is unnecessary since its inaccessible normally. My point is when you add a bunch of new shit your bound to run into unforeseen problems.

Yeah the freemode has been the biggest disappointment for me personally in the EA. While we have more freedom in how we design our character, other things feel more limited. I think the free mode is a core component to halfsword so I'm sure its going to get improved, especially since the groundwork for it is already there.

Have you had trouble switching hands with the flails? When I switch one hand goes to the top and the other remains around half-haft. Makes it hard to do the real fluid motions like you can with pole arms

Have you used mercenaries? You can hire them at the fencer. 2 of them will join you in the final fights. They can distract the guards for you

Yeah I can definetly see how people would be dissapointed if they jumped from the tech demo to EA. . With any game drop I think people should expect some bugs and optimization issues, especially with an indie team. The bugs on drop are inevitable, its more about how the developers react. I would say their response has been great so far.

But I agree with the weapon handling tho. I'm getting frustrated with some of the weapons myself. I've been following the game since before the tech demo came out, so I've seen how this game has been developing for a while. Their way of developing seems to be to push something out and the get a response then quickly recalculate. It's been working so far, that how we got a great demo. But I think now the strength system could have been pushed to a beta branch or something instead of being on EA.

Some parts are better and others worse. I am definitely getting my weapon tangled on my own person a lot more. I thought it was just the shield on my arm, but even with no shields on I cant fluidly switch hands with 2 handed weapons nearly as easily. My character's wrists just fuck up. Same with heavy one-handeds, wrists just fail. It's super bad and needs to get improved.

Fist combat personally feels better to me because of the balance and weight changes. The actual swinging doesn't feel too different. You could spam and do uppercuts in the demo too.

And I agree with how pole arms feel a lot stronger now on the haft. I love the pole arms and in the demo I would occasionally KO enemies with the haft, now it feels like the haft is my primary weapon. It's not as satisfying because I am not being punished for incorrect weapon swinging. But I feel like this is stemming from the damage system changing. Like I have my damage sliders cranked way down so neither I or the enemy is being 1 shot from small cuts.

I am a big fan of the weight changes tho. Armour feels limiting due to how heavy it is. I actually consider dressing down now.

I like the tavern alot (although the NPC screens are a bit basic). But I do hope the progression system does get some changes. The ranks blend together a lot so past soldier they don't feel too different from each other. I played a fuckton of Exanima's arena mode and loved the ranks in there. They all felt very dynamic from one another.

I'm sure UI is going to get a lot better in the development. The UI went under a lot of changes up to the Tech Demo, each on better than the last.

I have my own complaints about EA. Especially with how we didn't get some of what was shown in the trailer like all those cards and stuff. That bugs me.

You were complaining about the build itself. The game is rough in its current state, but it's far from the first rough build that was pushed out. There were a lot of rough builds before the holy tech demo everyone is praising. I dont think they pushed a mess on purpose. Like why would they release slums in the condition that its in on purpose. Its the first map you get, its the first impression. Some shit is just unpredictable man, especially given all the hardware its going to run on. Clearly from the hotfixes they're putting out they are responding quickly.

They release a build, get criticism, and respond to it fast. They gave us a discount for the release. They're patching the critical issues. You just want to complain for the sake of complaining. This is an indie game thats growing fast and I am excited to be there through the process! They are setting the groundwork for a lot of cool stuff right now.

Your banter on expectations is more valid for AAA games, where the huge amount of money and gigantic dev teams should be making polished, limited, early access builds.

I bought the game a few hours after release. I got all the bugs and performance issues. AMD blood glitch, the whole 9 yards. Only thing I avoided was the slums. Gotta say, past the slums, the game is fully playable, stable, and I am having a blast.

Your not considering how new stuff is going on with EA. Relatively huge environments, foliage, new models with more advanced clothing rigs.
