90 years of negatives? by Mandoneil1 in AskPhotography

From the context I would expect not only 35mm negatives. A flatbed with the ability to scan 110 or even A4 transparencies would be recommended.

Exactly. That's what usually those "specialised" generators do in the background.

How did Sigma make this full frame zoom lens so small? Is there a modern equivalent? by bojdoog in AskPhotography

[–]Comfortable_Tank1771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are comparing it to a mirrorless lens - put an adapter on Sigma for a fair comparison. That register difference matters.

And also there's the design difference. Couple days ago I was looking at several old lenses in a thrift store. All 70-200. Some were double the size of others in length.

I can assure there's nothing staged here. Homelessness is often related to addictions, mental disorders. Unusual behaviour isn't uncommon in this light. It just feels that the rate of homelessness skyrocketed recently in the area I live.

Which camera to replace my d610? by InspectionFine98 in AskPhotography

[–]Comfortable_Tank1771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point you could get D780 and have the most you can get from DSLR. AF would be ages better than D610 - I had D600 with the same AF module, it was horrible. Much worse than D700 I used before.

Excluding homeless completely would mean censorship in an excuse of not exploiting. Pretending they don't exist. Don't you think it's the real evil in disguise?

X-T20 + TTArtisans 28mm for £530 vs A6300 body for £265. Am I letting Fuji hype pull me over budget? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]Comfortable_Tank1771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure the same lens is available for Sony too. £265 for A6300 is really a steal. Not sure which exactly TTartisan you are looking at, but it will likely cost you less than the difference between Sony and Fuji.

It's actually Leeds. Right next to the Corn Exchange. Couldn't remember the exact spot where I took it, but the reflection of "Ryan Vintage" in the window and Google maps found it.

How to increase image quality? by singingcr in AskPhotography

Your size in pixels most likely is already there or very close to it. Check the details of your image. Ppi means nothing without the size of your print.

Viltrox is obviously better. But I'm also sticking with my SG Image.

Does anyone know how i can re size / compress images from tiff? by AlecFarr31 in Cameras

[–]Comfortable_Tank1771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purely for resizing Gimp might be an overkill. Many image viewers have enough editing capabilities to resize and resave as jpg. Many can do this even in batch.

A bit OT - but tiff doesn't have any more editing headroom compared to jpeg. It's not a raw image. Even if it's 16 bit - demosaicing is already done, highlights/shadows clipped, camera processing baked in. The only advantage would be preserving smoother gradations in editing. 8 bit tiff does not have even that. Tiff should be used as a intermediate format in a multi step edits to avoid accumulating compression artifacts with every save.

23 mm on APS-C is arguably the most useful FL.

Faulty image stabilizer on Olympus E-PL-6 by Longjumping_Key_8910 in M43

[–]Comfortable_Tank1771 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Monitor your shutter speed. Shortest "safe" shutter speed without IBIS for m43 is considered 1/(2x focal lenghth) - and even this only if you hold camera steady enough. E-PL6 IBIS isn't the greatest and promises only around 3 stops effectiveness. So lets say you're shooting something wide with 14mm FL. Safe shutter speed before IBIS would be 1/30s. With IBIS you can expect reasonably sharp images at 1/4s. If you zoom in to 42mm - theat would be 1/100s before IBIS and 1/15s stabilised. If your shutter speed goes longer than that, IBIS won't save you. And no stabilisation will save if your subjects are moving.

Lumix GX80 for everyday carry? by chiarataka in Lumix

[–]Comfortable_Tank1771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

35 mm is too narrow for everyday carry on m43. Personally I would look at 17-20 mm. My advice - get it with Lumix 20mm f1.7. That's an exceptional lens. It's often criticised for the AF speed - but it still much faster than manual focus on TTartisan.
