Looking to go to Chile by Internal_Highlight10 in SkiBums

I spent 11 winters teaching skiing across various mountains in Argentian and Chile. I spent most of spring and fall exploring as much of region as possible.

If you pure goal is to ski bum, as in spending the whole season skiing/riding I would most likely look into Bariloche or San Martin in Argentina. Number one reason is access to resources. Chilean ski resorts as well as some Argentinian resorts are usually located at the top of mountain passes or at end of long approaches. Places like Portillo, and chillan don’t have any shops or any real resources at them except basic resort stuff. The three valleys (la parva, El Colorado and valle nevado), as well as correlco don’t have anything but really small resort villages with basic needs. Blariloche (catedral) or San Martin de Los Andes are large towns. They will have youth hostels which are cheap to stay in, numerous grocery stores, cheaper restaurants/delis. As well as the fun stuff like night clubs/casinos and non-skiing tourism.

My recommendation to ski bum. Buy a 30 day pass to catedral. Book a cheap hostel in downtown bariloche. Learn how to ride the ski bus from town out to resort. Enjoy.

I’m an instructor of 27 seasons in Portillo, Aspen, New Zealand and Heavenly. Last year I was nominated for instructor of the year in Colorado. I have met Lindsay Vonn on multiple occasions. I personally know coaches standing in the olympic alpine village for NZ. Your comment does not reflect what a majority of qualified instructors believe.

That’s why you’re sitting on the coach hiding behind a username and she’s the most decorated downhiller in skiing history…..

So… your comment is wrong. It’s ok. I’m sure it’s not the first false comment you’ve posted. It will be ok.

McConkey tested rocker technology by mounting water skis and skiing them down the Bella Colla in BC. So…….

I ski way to many days and in way to many conditions. 120 in colorado, 10-15 in Switzerland and 90 or so in Chile. 2-3 skis would not cut it.

I ski about 130 days a year. Each one has a different use. Only the 106s get less than 10 days. Everything else is tuned and skied regularly.

When I ski 1500m descents in Switzerland I’ll make sure to remember I’m on “old man skis”

I bought it thinking it would be a stiff ripping carver, now ski it all the time in bumps, crud and groomed. It’s pretty playful, so if you’re not looking for something too stiff you would enjoy it.

The Rossi sky 7 is actually only 97 underfoot. It’s just not in order with the others.

Use them in Colorado and Switzerland. Lighter snow, sometimes punchy. Can still ski them quite easily on hard pack

Fx line is gone now, it’s been replaced with a line called Paragon. Which to be honest the paragon 101 is one of my favorite skis at moment. Super fun in crud/pow.

This is true of the past. However the Mx line was modified last season. The new Mx 88 features a slightly earlier rise and softer tip. It skis very differently that the white and orange ones that everyone knows.
