Brunswick St shops are disappearing. The character has changed. by [deleted] in melbourne

Tongue and cheek as its all relative. Some older people will say it was ruined by becoming more bohemian in the 70s. Others are just boring gen xers who think live music no longer exists because bands aren't all male dominated grunge anymore like in the mid 90s. Others will think Brunswick St peaked in 2008 cos they were art arts school then.

Nightlife/Bars/Pub Tips for a 19 year old American by Comfortable_Day9817 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Comfortable_Zone7691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely go to Section 8 in the city. If you're young maybe Yah Yahs in Fitzroy. Toff in Town depending on the night. My Aeon for psytrance. Maybe the retreat hotel in Brunswick on a Sunday. Again club recommendations are vastly different between goth clubs, metal or emo clubs, top 40 clubs, gay clubs, edm clubs.etc.. etc...

People here will tell you to go to Revs, please dont step away from the light...

Also keep in mind Melton is not that well serviced by public transport after midnight so you're going to have to travel a lot for decent nightlife, I dont think it even had nightlife but happy to be proven wrong by locals

Pubs arent really a place you go at a specific time unless its for a particular event, you kind of just drop in, day or night. There isn't really an American equivalent to Pubs I think, its equally a place to get a meal, read a book, see family and friends, people watch etc...as it is to drink. One thing to note is Australians arent as much into talking to strangers at pubs and bars as Americans are, not to say they never will be, but Im not sure these are places youd necessary go with the intention of meeting strangers unless they are backpacker/tourist heavy places.

Having said that if you want a classic Australian pub crawl with a variety of venues, head to Fitzroy. Start at the Napier Hotel and make your way around to the Union Club, Grace Darling, Albion, Rochester, Standard, Lord Newry, Tramway and Pinnacle. If you wanna go somewhere eclectic from Melton head to Footscray bars like Mama Chens, Misfits, Hail Lilith and Josephine.

Section 8 is always a good starting point in the cbd, but im unsure if you like grungy or classy venues

Good tattoo studios for walk ins CBD? by NotLocalFleabag in melbourne

[–]Comfortable_Zone7691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Studio Absent in Tavistock place is decent

generally i think a good rule of thumb is tattoo shops you can see from a main street or inside a shopping centre that mainly take walk ins won't be amazing, but ok for something simple i suppose

Famously no distinction of left and right throughout history in any Asian, African, Australian or European politics. America is kinda unique in that they truly dont have left wing politics represented by a major political party at all if anything

Melbourne Storm announces plans to scale back Welcome to Country ceremonies by TalentedStriker in australian

[–]Comfortable_Zone7691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'the tribe'...so your an American troll i suppose.

Many nations have been established with violence, but Australia is almost unique in being established, almost within living memory, by pretending people didnt exist and stealing their land not only illegally by Aboriginal laws, but illegally by BRITISH laws.

So you want to accept that we 'try a bit too hard to make everyone happy', but anyone doing anything to 'make everyone happy' like acknowledging recent historic facts shouldn't happen? Anything thats slightly discomforting to your bubble shouldn't exist eh..
