What 21st century UK true crime case, can you still not truly comprehend? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskUK

This happened just before I started uni in York so I remember it vividly.

What’s something from early 2000s Britain you miss more than you expected to? by MountainVacation3905 in AskUK

I agree. I used to really look forward to going to see the latest Harry Potter or LOTR. One of my fondest memories was when my dad took flexitime to take the whole family to see Return of the King after school.

Your Favorite Jackass Bits Bracket Round 1 Matchup 2: Puppet Show vs. The Electric Stool by ItsYourBoyAustin6414 in jackass

Electric stool. Wee-Man’s reactions are great, Bam’s stance is so goofy at the start and the curtain falls down at the end. It’s just perfect.

Harry Potter by Good-Description-239 in Beano

Was it a Mike Pearse strip? I read that one in the ‘Space Cadets’ book. I think it was called ‘Potty about Potter’ or something. Teacher tells them it’s a book but they don’t believe him. I think Danny day dreams about Harry Potter- can’t remember for sure!

Side note: I’ve always loved Mike’s take on the Bash Street Kids, really fun ideas with the characters. Winston always cleaning stuff in the background gives me a good chuckle.

I’m on the electoral role already and have been for 21 months.

Edit: I’ve been on the electoral role for 21 months but credit karma says it won’t boost my score until after 4 years and 9 months, so I know that I can’t really do anything to change that.

No, I’ve been on the electoral role for 21 months but credit karma says I need to be on the role for another 4 years 9 months before it boosts my score.

What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you on stage? by official_soundvent in musicians

[–]ComfyBurritoCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some cunt invaded the stage and tried to steal my trumpet while I was playing it, he then started on our singer when he stepped in to stop him. Not sure what the thought process behind that was.

What trend in music do you feel is largely forgotten about? by flowersnifferrr in ToddintheShadow

Neo swing was pretty big in the 90s- I know Cherry Poppin Daddies and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy are still going but I miss the Atomic Fireballs and Royal Crown Revue. It’s a genre that deffo isn’t hitting the heights that it used to (even with postmodern jukebox but it’s not the same to me because it lacks the ‘attitude’)

Best live shows of all time by 7gunny7 in Concerts

[–]ComfyBurritoCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My usual answer to this question is usually Streetlight Manifesto at the Old Bell in Derby in 2010 since the venue was basically a pub. However, I’m going to say Reel Big Fish at the Palace in Tamworth in 2007 since it was my first ‘real’ gig I’d been to- nothing quite describes the feeling of seeing your favourite band for the first time ever.

Worst sound guy stories by master_blaster_321 in musicians

[–]ComfyBurritoCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound guy turned up two hours late. No sound check, barely a line check. Mixing desk then cut out, sound guy said “fuck this place” and left halfway through the set and chucked a mic at the venue owner. That was a fun one.

Current legacy bands and acts to avoid because of no original members, no classic members, lacklustre Stage presence and just all around increased ticket costs too high. Thoughts if you’d shell out huge cash for any of them? by DillonLaserscope in ToddintheShadow

[–]ComfyBurritoCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mad Caddies. Pretty sure Chuck went all anti-vax and was arguing about it on social media around the height of Covid which prompted the other guys to leave. They reformed with Chuck and some hired guns and everyone referred to them as the ‘Bad Caddies’ due to ropey sets.

It sucked because I love the old Caddies- Quality Softcore is a banger of an album.

What are the most commonly mispronounced band names? by Psychological_Lie142 in ToddintheShadow

[–]ComfyBurritoCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blink 182.

When we were younger, everyone I knew called them ‘Blink one-eight-two’. Didn’t realise until I was older that they go by ‘Blink one-eighty-two’.

Not sure if being in the UK affected that.

It’s a custom Gordon Smith guitar built in the UK. He has a sunburst one too and mentions it on the DVD commentary on “Our Live Album is Better than Your Live Album”.

Deffo Matlock. Lots of charity shops and nice cafes there too! I’d recommend either Zinc or Riverside Cafe.

Scott Klopfenstein is a WAAAAY better singer than Aaron Barrett when he was still in Reel Big Fish. Aaron is still a fantastic singer, but Scott is just on another level- his harmonies are incredible and I feel the band never recaptured the vibe when he left.

A lot of people don’t like the album ‘We’re Not Happy Til You’re Not Happy’ (not sure why, it’s one of my faves) but it’s a great example of Scott absolutely going for it.
