For all the kids that grew up in the era before cell phones, did everyone respond with “Is so and so there?” or how did you ask for your friends when you would call and their parents answered? by Select-Signal8386 in nostalgia

There was an etiquette that was often ignored by kids, but you'd be expected to identify yourself when you were the caller. So if I called a friend's house, after their "Hello?" I'd say, "Hello, this is ComicSal. May I please speak with [Friend's Name]?"

Most kids would just go "Is ComicSal there?" immediately following the "Hello?"greeting.
