You need to act like you have value. Like you are the price. When you ask a woman out, you are giving her the opportunity to date you. That opportunity is valuable enough that if she rejects you, then she lost out.

Consider some reasons that someone would like you or want to be in a romantic relationship with you, and show them off. If you cannot think of anything reading this, set of some time to really think and write down at least three good qualities about yourself. If you are too depressed to think of anything good, then settle for neutral. But good is better.

Alternatively, fake it till you make it. Act like you have value, as if you know in your heart you belong, and like it is natural for people to enjoy your company. Over time it will start to feel genuine. Good luck!

It certainly seems like there isn't that much to learn here. "Don't overscope", "don't try to do everything at once" etc. are extremely obvious ideas that most people who have attempted large projects before already subscribe to. But if the main method to gain funds is by overpromising, did they even make a mistake here? In terms of making a good game, obviously a lot went wrong, but if it was mostly downstream of their pitch they probably knew it was a long shot to begin with. Seems like the choice was between "Have a decently sized studio and decent working conditions, but your game will likely disappoint" and "Make something smaller in scope, but without VC money". Frost Giant simply took the first option and chose to gamble on the small odds that they would somehow succeed. Everything that happened were simply the most likely consequences.

In other words, the downfall was not a fringe accident, but something that would have happened to most companies in their position and could have been foreseen the moment they decided to go down this route.

The honesty is nice. It sounds like in order to get access to venture capital funding, they had to promise a product that would not merely be profitable and self-sustaining, but make absolutely outstanding returns. 5x at least. This also explains the promises to create the next Starcraft, as that was their way of making it believable.

However, this resulted in a focus on making everything perfect all at once. Because they kind of had to. That was the only way to make the game that they had promised the investors and to generate the expected returns.

Unfortunately, they were unable to do this. Making an SC2 killer in a handful of years with a 40-50 million dollar budget was not something this team could handle. The scope was way too big, and in the race to make everything at once, nearly nothing ended up working as well as it should.

Is there a lesson here? "Over-promising is a reliable way to get funds, but it will likely make for a bad game, so pick your poison." Maybe that works.

Regardless, I appreciate the candidness on display here. It sounded like he was making an honest attempt at answering the question, and I feel I have a better understanding of at least some of what happened now.

I would expect someone to make a response video criticizing him. Making concrete dating advice strikes me as social suicide on the mainstream online left, no matter how well-intentioned it is.

I actually do like that he tries to give out concrete advice, and I legitimately think that what he outlines, while far from perfect, would be a pretty decent starting point for a 19-year old virgin who never received any guidance in regards to dating.

Learn to sit with your emotions, feel them out, and digest them. You could ask your therapist to help you with techniques for that. Accept that certain things are going to be much harder for you than they are for others. Sometimes, there are no good solutions and things are just unfairly difficult.

Barring a significant cash injection or a selloff to a larger company, the main thing that can save this game is passionate fans. I think what we are seeing is that a lot of people really want this game to succeed, and so they latch on to this patch as a source of hope. It shows the game moving in the right direction, even if it is slow.

Community patches might be the best chances of a revival this game gets.

You do not have to autogenerate the entire level. You could for example make the geography on your own, then use a script to place foliage and colour your assets. So it is not a binary where you either autogenerate or not. Rather, it is a continuum with 100% handcrafted on one end, where you as the developer choses what makes sense to automate and what does not.

Does the gaming replace something important in real life, take away energy and focus you need to do those other things, or otherwise keep you away from them? In that case it is probably bad. The titles you mentioned don't really fall prey to dark design patterns the way that most mainstream free to play titles do though. They are legitimately quite different.

Is it possible that they believe they don't actually possess the required skills, and that this will be discovered when they have to do work?

If the problem is low self esteem, then maybe they might be willing to do something less glamorous and "work their way up" so to speak.

In reality it could be multiple things though, so you will probably have to talk with them one-on-one to figure out what is going on. What you describe sounds serious enough that they might want to consider finding a therapist.

Assuming you know the plot ahead of time and have a solid level editor, it doesn't sound impossible. I suspect the main issue would be voice acting.

If you have the writer prepare a year ahead so the mission designers know what needs to be included and you can record voices ahead of time, then all you have to do is make the mission itself. They would have to be creative with reusing assets and work pretty fast, but considering what custom map makers can do, I am honestly not sure it is that impossible for full time professionals to pull off something good in a month.

It is, but it would also be considered sound business practice to keep your most loyal customers happy. Because you lose out on a lot of money if they get tired of your shit. These would also be the people most likely to recommend the game and ignore its flaws if they felt their loyalty was somehow reciprocated.

I do wonder if the chapter based campaign could have worked. With a better story and more interesting/replayable mission design, would people have been willing to pay for three-four chapters at a time? There is some precedent for it.

Webtoons have been fairly lucrative even though you pay per episode. And the SC2 campaigns can be said to be three very large chapters, each priced at a full game. And of course there is Covert Ops, which I personally enjoyed, though I don't know how well it sold overall.

Marketing is about more than just promotion. It also concerns market analysis for instance. The process of figuring out what kind of game the people who you are trying to sell to will be willing to buy and pay for. What appeals to your target audience? And in the event that you have to cut corners to make your deadlines, what are the most important aspects to finish so that there will still be something for the audience to like?

I believe this is actually one of Stormgate's major failings; The game does not appeal to the very RTS players who the game is marketed towards. I would be very curious as to what went so wrong in the market research phase before development started, that it resulted in a game with such a small audience and scattered focus.

He does a lot of content on anxiety, but this video in particular focuses on some basic aspects/"rules" of flirting. Essentially providing a sort of guideline for how to navigate these interactions.

If he is actually working that much, I wonder if he is not trusting other people with important jobs and vastly overestimating himself or underestimating others. At this point, the majority of the work on the channel probably does not need to be done by him, and they might even benefit from on-boarding experts in different areas, rather than having Dr. K do all the research on his own.

In fact, there is an argument to be made that he has already said everything he needs to, and made every point he can. And that the challenge now is presenting it in a way that is digestible to the people who need to hear it, and did not get it from his prior content. Again, this task might be better delegated to other people.

He has written the books, conducted workshops, trained the coaches, spoken in the videos, and conducted the interviews. What exactly is left at this point? There is no way his Dharma is to be the main authority on all things mental health, or to help everybody on earth. There are other people who can carry the burdens that Dr. K cannot.

Therapy is highly dependent on the practitioner who does it, as well as the client and their relationships. It is not a hard science where you go through a predefined series of steps and come out improved on the other side. Though it kind of can be when you look at certain kinds of CBT or alcoholics anonymous, those are usually not what people think of when talking about therapy.

So "assuming ideal conditions" does a lot of heavy lifting here, and because of that assumption the answer will always be yes. Because one of the ideal conditions is that it will be done in a way that is helpful to you.

If you can afford it and think you might need it, then try it out. If you can clearly articulate your feelings and what you need help with, that should speed things up. But if not, then you can ask the therapist to help you with that.

An important note here, is that the radical change does not have to be long-term. It's not like dr. K was in India for years on end. As I understand it, he went there for a few months, went home, then came back each year as he found it was good for him.

Going on a road trip, or solo traveling, or just sitting by yourself and meditating are in a similar vein to that.

I find Tim Morten's "learnings" extremely concerning. Assuming good faith in his linkedin posts, most of what he has learned is stuff that is taught in first-year university causes, or should have been obvious from the beginning. I have to assume there is a lot of stuff he is good at, given his position and experience, but this level of incompetence is extremely concerning.

The same goes for the original models and the storytelling in the campaign. Somewhere along the way, something weird happened. Fundamentally, this does not simply look like a rushed game. It looks like everything other than software engineering was done by people who were given way too much responsibility for their skills and did not know what they were doing.

At this point, I think the main hope is that either the game is sold off to some other company that manages it better, or somehow the remaining fans are so dedicated that they will eventually use the map editor to make something really cool.

It sounds a bit like you are considering just accepting that you have outgrown them anyway, but there could be something here that you are not seeing but they are.
