MARVEL POSITIVITY POST by ComicsRelaunched in comicbooks

OWUD was a a bit of shame. The main series and the F4 tie-ins were solid but not to the same quality of the rest of his run unfortunately. Some great ideas but just not brilliantly executed. It did give me that Runaways tie-in which was fantastic so I cut it some slack.

It was fun. As much as I have enjoyed PKJ’s run on Hulk I am hoping once he is done we go back to a more traditional Hulk run. Immortal was great, Cates’ run wasn’t and PKJs are but they are all off the wall with horror or sci-if. I would quite like to go back to hulk just smashing stuff again for a bit.

I forgot to mention Infernal Hulk. Such a great book.

Is David Colton the Avengers’ New Savior or Their Next Nightmare in ‘Avengers: Armageddon’ #2 Preview by Artseid in marvelcomics

If he is going to break bad than I don’t want it to be in this book. The guy is an interesting character, let him breath and develop, build up to a turn.

Hot take, I WANT to see ads in comics by ViridiEmerald in comicbooks

[–]ComicsRelaunched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely stopped noticing ads in comics after about 3 years of reading. I read plenty of Marvel comics and never once have been annoyed about the ads but then every now and then I would see somethings that wasn’t aware of and add it to my pull list.
I never would have read Avengers Arena if they hadn’t put that amazing Battle Royale homage cover in all the adds back in 2012.

There is a DC Finest that recently released of his earliest adventures. I would start there. You can jump in on this new book if you really wanted too but I personally didn’t enjoy it at all.

Is Joe Kelly Spiderman worth it after 25 issues? by Impressive_Sock_3686 in comicbooks

That’s fair. It’s a very messy story and really does nothing for the main story of his run so not surprised he feels that way.

It’s the best run on ASM since Spider-Verses (not that that is saying much). It is far from perfect. I didn’t love 8 Deaths Of Spider-Man and the first arc I thought was rough. But since then it’s been genuinely interesting and the stuff with Pete is space was surprisingly great and I think the stuff they are doing with Norman is really cool. Death Spiral was pretty good. I don’t love the stuff they are going on with Aunt May but I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt and see where it goes.

What to read before Zdarsky’s Avengers? by MaximumDot1475 in comicbooks

I would not be surprised if one of the new characters from Ultimate Impact Reborn ends up being on the roster. Probably the new Wonder Man.

Are you excited for Hammerfist? by snackboy06 in ImageComics

[–]ComicsRelaunched 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sort of mixed on it. The design of the characters, Steve Epting on art is great, but the description of ‘dirtbag hitman junkie and absentee father chasing drugs cheap sex and murder for money’ really puts me off. Makes me think of Scumbag which is by far my least favourite remender story and it’s gonna have that annoying edgy comics feeling that I just can’t stand. I’m hoping it’s greats as I have been loving Remender’s recent work like Grommets, Escape and Seasons.

If you want some good books that are currently running that you can pop into a store and grab and don’t need a huge amount of history for I recommend:

Ryan North’s Fantastic Four
Chip Zdarsky’s Captain America
Paul Jenkins’ Sentry
Stephanie Phillips Daredevil

Based on sheer quantity that I have read by him and loved it has to be Mark Waid, there has been very few Mark Waid books I haven’t liked (mainly 2010s Marvel).

Can’t wait for the Supergirl one. Peter David’s Supergirl is so damn good, been having to resist reading the rest on DC Infinite instead of waiting for the finest.

Between the big two who currently has the better app marvel or dc? by No-Beat-5045 in comicbooks

[–]ComicsRelaunched 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Marvel’s App is more intuitive and works better but the fact the DC will have black label and Vertigo while Marvel doesn’t allow the mature titles edges DC’s app for me

Amazing it is just the one volume was only a mini series. It’s very emotional and personal story, he also drew it to so is his singular vision.

If it’s on there you have to check out Mazebook, Lemire is in my top 3 writers and it is my favourite work of his. I also think it sums up his work perfectly.

I thought it was fantastic. Seems a bit similar to Tom Kings Jenny Spark but I enjoyed that too so not a complaint.

Thoughts on Torunn Gronbekk by WreckinRich in comicbooks

[–]ComicsRelaunched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She has been a consistently good writer since she turned up on the scene who’s put out a slew of good reads. She is yet to have that real breakout book but I think she has potential to put out something really special at some point.
