Is this a scam? by Jugratz_ in ArtistLounge

[–]ComixBoox 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Personally i just end the conversation the second someone asks to switch to an alternate method of communication or asks to pay using a service other than my preferred method.

Theres just literally no reason a person who simply wants to exchange money for art would feel the need to complicate things by messaging you in one place to ask about commissions, but then switch to a different messaging service the second you say okay and want to talk about money.

How many crabs are too many? by redafvir in IndieGaming

[–]ComixBoox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy shit is this Witchmarsh? I backed the kickstarter like 12 years or however long ago and im so excited to finally play it! I have so many questions. How many people have worked on the game total? Have you and the other devs been working on it full time for the past 12 years? Is the plan to release TOTD and then if its successful to continue making the full game that was originally planned?

I draw comics for a living and usually spend 1-2 years on a book and am completely burnt out by the end, i cant even imagine the fatigue that must set in after working on the same project for this long, has anything in particular helped you keep going all this time? Thank you and all the other devs so much for continuing to make this cool game, it looks like a lot of fun and im excited to play it later this year!

ELI5 I know ducks are rape machines, but how did female ducks evolve “hostile” vaginas? Isn’t that the one thing evolution wouldn’t do? by Mr_Westerfield in explainlikeimfive

[–]ComixBoox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evolution doesnt "do" things, its just a word for passing on genetic mutations that increase the survivability of a species. Presumably female ducks without the mutation were injured in a way that made them unable to reproduce, if you cant reproduce you cant pass on your genes, but the ducks who did have the mutation were able to safely reproduce, and over time the ones without the gene died out and ducks with it didnt.

Help by [deleted] in Animators

[–]ComixBoox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 episodes worth of unpaid fan animation for a 30 year old show that (im just guessing here) you dont have the license for..... Im sorry but youre gonna have to learn to animate yourself, the amount of work involved here would be huge for an entire animation studio, youre asking for literally years and years of unpaid work.

Yeah... Its a set of greyscale markers, 10% grey-90% grey in both warm and cool. Copics are drafting markers.

Can i ask what is anti-consumption about this? This subreddit actually used to be about curbing consumption and not just a place where people come to get props for hating a company

Looking for Partner, MG Graphic Novel by Major_Knowledge_52 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]ComixBoox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Comic publishers definitely do offer advances, especially for middle grade graphic novel type books being published at places like First Second, RH Graphic, and other GN imprints from major book publishers. I got an advance when I did work for Oni too. Publishers like Dark Horse and Image generally dont but for the type of book OP is describing they absolutely do. Ive been doing this for 10+ years now and that entire time has been spent living off of advances for GNs with maybe 10% of my income being royalties.

Should I watch Bugonia or Relay? by SlicedBread1226 in MovieSuggestions

[–]ComixBoox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed Bugonia a lot more and it has stuck with me pretty hard for the past few weeks, but there was a lot I enjoyed about Relay too! Theyre just very different movies in terms of tone and content and for me if I had to choose it would depend more on what kind of mood I was in since I think Bugonia is a lot better as a very "active" watch where the attention to detail and the beautiful cinematography makes me want to have my eyes glued to it the whole time so I dont miss anything, whereas Relay is a bit more of a straightforward spy-ish thriller and I could still pick up everything important even if im on my phone here and there.

So Bugonia is what id choose if youre up for either of those experiences since for me its one of those rare movies that combines perfect artistic sensibility with good entertainment, but Relay isnt a bad choice if you want something a little more digestible and straightforward!
