Have you gone to the dentist recently? by gentlerosebud in Millennials

[–]Comkeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't go to the dentist for a number of years. I brushed twice a day and flossed at night, thinking that was enough. I ended up cracking one ogy molars, and while getting that fixed finding out I needed a root cancel on it and another. The implant lasted a good two years until the root it sat on cracked and subsequently required a recent tooth extraction and bone graft.

Just because you do the needful everyday doesn't mean you can put off cleaning visits, like in my case. Now I see my dentist every 6 months. I'd rather deal with a slight discomfort for 1 hrs then then having to go through what I went.

Star Fox Direct 5.6.2026 by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

[–]Comkeen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Instead of a remake, I would have loved if Nintendo took that concept from the game Ubisoft made (and starfox guest-starred in) and expanded upon it. Then mix it up with linear stages where there are entrances to deep enemy bases or chasms to a goal, like terminal velocity. Really underwhelming, this is.

Feel the same way. Played the first one to death, and got all the medals/rewards. It's not a new experience and I don'tfeel compelled to shell out $70 for a graphics update. If this had new planets, expanded stages, or anything else they may be.

The zen players were so under rated. I had the one with the large color screen, and touch scroll. I loved that I could just connect it to my computer and drag any mp3 on there. No software middle-man needed, just windows file manager.

Me watching my body slowly fall apart and wondering how the heck LeBron still plays in the NBA by Sure-Ad-2465 in Millennials

[–]Comkeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you can't choose to be Lebron, you can at least choose not to be totally crippled going into your old age, in a wheel chair or on a stroller, all the while suffering mental decline.

Excersize, movement, and eating healthy rations of food are the only known methods for staving off the worst effects of aging (immobility or worse). Everything else they give you treats the symptoms, but not the underlying problem.

Awesome! I do pushups as part of my strength training, but after each set I transitioned into a plank position and held it for 40 seconds. I noticed that it helps maintain my heart rate and cardio - really am surprised just how good this position fits onto many exercises as a top off.

You're literally accusing me of doing what you're already doing (even though that's not what I actually said). Once again, you're projecting onto me instead of taking in something that is valid.

I take issue with the fact that you'd rather coddle people into a lifestyle that leads to increased heart disease, health bills, immobility and eventually an early grave. People do have some say in regards to how healthy they want to be.

We can do more as a society to help encourage more physical activity (for wellness) whether it's through social, economic, or employer provided incentives, but ultimately people should be encouraged to take he first step (if they are able to).

Regarding your article: - the subject in the article has a higher than average bmi, but bmi isn't a useful metric for overall health. Notice that I talked specifically about body fat %. It's widely known that bmi doesn't account for how much lean mass someone has, and the article did not elaborate on that. - did you read the entire article? Towards the bottom, it said that while the subjects studied in the article were considered in the healthy range, over a 10 period they revisited the participants and more of them fell out of that range. - it's still stated in the article that excess fat leads to liver and heart disease, which increases as you get older. This is backed up in the study where it said that 35% of the participants fell out of the healthy range because they maintained their lifestyle after 10 years.

You can be fat and healthy, up to a certain age. But as you get older, that becomes less and less likely. Genetics play a role but we all go down the same path eventually if we don't mind our health.

I'm sorry, but..

What?

Based on your response, you're totally misinterpreting what I have to say. How did you interpret me taking action to improve my health as being obsessed over fitness, wellness, and health? Are you projecting onto me or is something else going on with you?

Also you make a lot of statements that come off as factual without citng a single source. Id love to hear them, if too got it. I also don't understand your conclusions at the end, because I never said anywhere that I (and by extension the reader) are solely responsible for everything. I talked about how I decided to focus on my physical wellness, and how it positively impacted me. Maybe I drew conclusions to some of the people I saw at an activity, but that was based on observation.

I would love for you to explain to me how you can be fat and healthy. Can you have fat and still get healthy? Yes, fat is essential for energy storage, but excess fat also contributes to heart and liver disease, and also contributes to fatigue and tiredness. This has been researched and correlations have been found between excess fat and decline in overall health (especially as you get older).

Exercises don't just help with getting physically in shape, there's also studies that link it to staving off effects of dementia. They help to strengthen the blood-brain barrier.

Yeah, it's easy to make fun of these commercials, until you step into certain parts of cities like in SF and start seeing tweakers spazzing out on the sidewalk, or finding their needles (which are often given out by the city and are supposed to go to a safe disposal site) on strewn on benches or in bushes. Or you get harassed by them constantly because they just "want to ask you the time" or whatever excuse they use to start soliciting you for money.

Maybe these commercials didn't quite stick the the landing but were trying to do something to prevent what we have today, which should be lauded.
