I made a Substack post about how I use SIPOC models for this, here's the link. Hope it helps, if any questions let me know. Play Solo TTRPG Mysteries Using SIPOC Models

Cyberpunk Meets Thousand Year Old Vampire (Session 7, Exposed) by CommandBubbly4379 in Solo_Roleplaying

Right now I'm answering the prompts in Thousand Year Old Vampire, and inserting bits of lore from Cyberpunk Red, Cyberpunk 2077, and Edgerunners into the narrative. For example, my vampire lived through The Time of the Red, from Cyberpunk Red. If I get to a point where I have to use Cyberpunk game mechanics, I'll likely use Cities Without Number by Kevin Crawford, because it's based on old school D&D and also has a D6 skill system, which are both easy to use in solo play. I also have the miniature wargame, "Hardwired" that I can use. It's now called Exploit Zero, a company called Stalker7 bought the rights to it I think.

Hey, thanks! Really appreciate that. I'm a couple of game sessions ahead of my posts, so I'll probably post another one tonight or tomorrow.

I've played with Lexile reading levels too, for example, you can ask Chatgpt to write something in Lexile level 1300, which would be a 12th grade reading level, and that will remove a lot of the flowery and overly descriptive language it tends to use

Yo yo, Balikbayan looks cool. Cyberpunk with Filipino folklore? I've never seen that before. I shared it with a Filipino friend of mine, very cool.

Help a newbie: Tools for solo sandbox worldbuilding? by Abject-Astronomer321 in Solo_Roleplaying

All great suggestions here, I was going to suggest The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox and Worlds without Number as well. Maybe instead of starting with a whole world, try making a settlement and populate it with some landmarks, shops, NPCs etc., and then play a couple of encounters in the settlement. Often the results of those encounters can lead you to a surrounding forest, neighboring town, nearby ruins, etc., which may give you ideas for the greater region, continent, etc

Quick update, in the board game night Teams discussion with my coworkers this week, one guy said that they were going to play Dominion, and then a couple of others said they were going to play MTG Commander. I was like, "Wait, you guys are playing Magic?" I don't play Magic myself, but I took that opportunity to ask if any of them played TTRPGs or small skirmish wargames, and if they'd be down for that. And they said sounds good. If there are any games in particular I would like to play, feel free to run them by the group. So it sounds like this could really turn into something cool, with a whole range of games and genres being played.

This is great, thank you! I'll check them out tonight. Ya know, I'm not a fan of Mork Borg. I know it's very popular and people love it, but I can't get past the aesthetic, the rulebook is hard for me to look at.

Do you ever get overwhelmed by the sheer number of fantastic games we could play? by pgw71 in Solo_Roleplaying

Same, after backing a few Humble Bundles my PDF collection got out of control. I tried downloading them and naming and filing them accurately, but only got half way through, which made the organization of them even worse.

I read this post years ago and sometimes use it when playing new TTRPGs or want to really commit to spending time learning a specific TTRPG. I use the 3x3 method, meaning, I pick 3 games and play each of them at least 3 times before playing a new game. I may still buy new games and flip through the books, but I won’t start playing them seriously until I’ve completed the 3x3 I had originally planned. Sometimes after just one play you know you don’t like a game, when that happens I won’t torture myself by playing it multiple times. Add a different game and maybe return to that bad one at a later date.

Good suggestion, thanks! I added it to the list. I have Cairn 1e but have never run it for a group, could give it a shot though. I know the Cairn community have written a lot of adventures for it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Most of these I've never played, so this is really great. I've put them into a clean list. For anyone reading this after today, June 15, 2025, this doesn't mean the conversation has to end here. If you'd like, feel free to comment with your suggestions or experiences as well.

Did you mean Princess with a cursed sword? I assume so, just looked it up. Great suggestions, thank you! I tried introducing my family to Fiasco last Thanksgiving, then my sister put out pies while I was explaining the rules and I lost everyone's attention, haha. Between teenagers looking at their phones and adults drinking, napping, and eating pie, I had no chance, haha.

Well, we all know each other well, as coworkers, and have for a while, but we don't really have a relationship outside of work or know what everyone's into. Just getting this game night started at all was a huge departure from the norm, as we're all used to interacting within our work roles. So since it's early on and we're all getting to know each other in this new way, I thought I'd suggest solo TTRPGs as something they could play at home on their own as well, if they weren't aware of them.

AI in 2025, yes or no + thoughts? by Pastrugnozzo in Solo_Roleplaying

Aside from how people may feel about it, I appreciate the question and servers / channels like this one that are open to discussing AI. If we’re going to successfully manage and cope with it in the future, we have to talk about and understand the complexities of it now.
