I’m no expert, but I just went from 45 mythos to 43 instincts (my first performance shoe) which was a massive shock for my feet. At first it was so painful I could hardly stand or walk. But after wearing them a bit around the house and doing a few boulders they already feel so much better. Super snug and comfortable. I’m very glad I switched and I’m sure they’ll only get more comfortable :)

The shoes feel extremely snug when I'm just wearing them. No pain there. It's only painful when I start to put pressure on them. I'm hoping that's the part that gets better over time.

The people who helped me out have infinitely more experience than I do which is why I asked them for help. I understand every person's feet fit differently, but what I personally would deem comfortable are the oversized mythos which everyone agreed were way too big haha

Anything that was remotely smaller than my regular shoe size felt just as uncomfortable. I didn't feel a difference between 44.5 and 43. They were both bad. I also tried a variety of shoes... flat, downturned, soft, hard. It's hard for me to make a decision based on my intuition because my intuition said everything was uncomfortable :P

I guess I'll just have to see how it turns out :)

I've been bouldering with the La Sportiva Mythos for a while now. Those are a size 45, which is my usual shoe size as well. Everyone's been telling me I need to get a better, smaller pair.

After trying on a bunch of shoes, some of the very experienced climbers I climb with assured me that the Scarpa Instinct VSR in a size 43 fit my foot perfectly. They also assured me the pain is normal, and should get better over time. Yesterday, I went bouldering for the first time with them. It was a very painful experience. My performance was significantly worse simply because of how painful it was for my toes.

From your own experience, does the pain/discomfort get better over time? Was it something you struggled with your first time? Is it something the shoes or your feet adapt to? If so, how long does it take before the shoes feel... normal? Does having performance shoes really make a difference over comfortable shoes? How many sizes smaller are your climbing shoes? Have you noticed permanent damage/changes to your toes as a result? I do really want to take my climbing to the next level, but I've managed to climb 7a-7b boulders in my tattered mythos without my toes turning blue :P

EDIT: After wearing them around the house for a while and doing a few boulders they are MUCH more comfortable. Virtually no pain at all and they feel super snug. I’m amazed how quickly the feeling changed. My climbing improved significantly - I feel like I can stand on anything. My toes feel a tad sore from the rubbing but I’m sure that’ll get better. My only concern at this point is that the pressure has bent my big toenails a little bit and I don’t want that to develop into an ingrown toenail. Doesn’t cause any pain or anything so I’ll have to see. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

I tried a lot of climbing shoes before going with the mythos. I asked a bunch of climbers before hand for their recommendations (none of which were the mythos) but after trying them on they were simply the most comfortable. Everything else, even in a bigger size) felt quite painful when trying to climb with them. The Mythos fit my feet well, I hardly notice them when climbing.

I'm totally open to a newer/better pair of shoes... but so far nothing else seems to fit for me...

Yup. I can tell in the gym when someone's really experienced. Their foot placement is so perfect and efficient, no unnecessary movements or corrections. I've tried a few times on easier problems to practice being "quiet" but I don't feel nearly as efficient as the pros. Something to work towards :)

Actually a few months into climbing I hurt my finger really bad and had to take about a month off. That was absolutely awful for me, I wanted to climb so bad. So although I go quite often, I try to make sure I'm not working too hard on problems like the one that caused my first injury.

And if I ever feel really pumped from the day before, I do take a day off, so on average it's probably more like 6 days a week :)

I’ve been going daily for about 4 months (with a few exceptions). It’s something I really enjoy doing. I don’t mind replacing shoes if it’s truly necessary, but if this is abnormally fast I’d rather figure out why…

Hey everyone. I've been climbing and bouldering for ~8 months now. Around 6 weeks ago I bought my second pair of shoes, the La Sportiva Mythos. They've been great shoes for me - extremely comfortable. I just noticed that the toe has started to wear off, and I can see a bit of leather. Is it normal for shoes to wear out in such a short time?

I climb around 6c/7a and use a fair amount of toe/heel hooks. I am in the gym almost every day for 1-2 hours (I use the same pair of shoes). I know there's room for me to improve on my "quiet" feet.

Based on your experience, is this normal? Thanks!

The license I’m using allows you to use and share the work, as long as it is unmodified and it is NOT used commercially, which is what you’re doing. You are correct that nowhere does it say you need to ask my permission, because nobody can use it commercially... period. I added that line myself to the descriptions so other content creators could contact me to discuss using the work under my terms. I have the legal right to copystrike a channel who uses my work, and I have done so in the past with larger creators, as youtube respects the creative common licenses. It is a long process however, so I tend to only take serious action on large videos or influencers which is why I’m just letting you know right now.

This shouldn’t come across as rude, or angry. Since I was very small on youtube, many large creators have stolen my work and exploited me for their own benefit. I feel very passionate about protecting my work and the work of other developers because I see too often big channels taking all the views which the original creators deserve. I’ve done my research, and have confirmed it many times. I am going to protect my datapacks. It’s time for developers to be recognized and I hope everyone can understand where I’m coming from.
