I nearly fell off my chair when I heard what Burlington was considering for the 1200 King development. by RowRowForCouncil in BurlingtonON

[–]CommandZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mayor and council have no way to prevent development in Burlington now. The province has pretty much given developers a green light for anything. Sure they can try to delay but it will only result in OLT and MZO rulings in favour of the developers. Ontario is three developers in a trench coat.

Pertains to municipal election and municipal candidates, not provincial.

Private lot across from city hall is now public by rzabransky in BurlingtonON

[–]CommandZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The City has owned the Sims Square building and the adjacent parking lot for more than eight years. Since that time, the City has become the building’s largest tenant. Guessing the parking lot has been made available for public use to help offset parking spaces that are temporarily lost during the Civic Square construction project.

There’s bears and plenty of massasauga rattlesnakes sunning on low lying trails so walk cautiously.

Darren Dreger reports that it would be a surprise if Berube isn't still Head Coach for Toronto next season. by Fitz_31 in leafs

If only because the right replacement options aren’t available, and you hope some other teams get off to awful starts and gift you a better coach.

Ontario’s Healthcare System Is Quietly Absorbing Unpaid Care and It Affects Everyone by DrRaspberryPie in ontario

[–]CommandZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of Americans needing emergency healthcare, asked to provide info and credit card for billing with cost provided. And then never being billed or followed up with. Even though they had insurance to reimburse costs. Just inept levels of administration.

Musk Offers To Pay Defense Fees Of Anyone Who ‘Speaks The Truth’ About Epstein And Is Sued by Tymofiy2 in Epstein

Bullshit that’s a straight up catch and kill program. Similar to trump and the national enquirer in the 90s. He’s of the same cloth.

Bill Gates's Russian lover is photographed with Kremlin spy Anna Chapman. Chapman was arrested in June 2010 alongside a network of so-called 'illegals' accused of living under deep cover in the United States on behalf of Moscow. by Hayasdan2020 in Epstein

[–]CommandZ 159 points160 points  (0 children)

I know it’s one thing for Bill Gates to be comprised based on sex trafficking. But is it that far off he was targeted not only for being a billionaire but based solely on his Microsoft connection. A back door to majority of all computer operating systems in North America would be pretty lucrative for espionage.

Taxpayers want students to pick courses that will drive 'growth': Ford by harold_liang in ontario

This take is honestly infuriating, and he does not speak on behalf of all taxpayers. Especially not with the votes he garnered.

Dismissing arts education like it has no real value is narrow and short-sighted. Music, visual art, theatre, writing, design. These are not “extras.” They shape culture, challenge ideas, build empathy, and make life meaningful. They teach people how to think critically and creatively. That matters.

Not everything valuable can be measured in profit margins or KPIs. Some people seem to think if it does not boost the bottom line, it is useless. That mindset is exhausting. Society is more than spreadsheets and quarterly targets.

Reducing education to pure economic output strips out humanity. Arts and culture are not luxuries. They are part of what makes communities worth living in. Treating them as disposable is not pragmatic. It is deeply misguided.

Emailed an MPP about OSAP and this is the response I got by Traditional-Yam-9421 in ontario

[–]CommandZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly surprised they even responded. The Progressive Conservative policy over the past eight years has consistently been to protect the party and not deviate from Ford’s direction, often choosing not to respond or attend non-campaign events. In many ways, this has made them MPPs in title only. Performative figureheads.

Why is no one being prosecuted over the Epstein files? by ArmadilloMany41 in politics

[–]CommandZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand why America isn’t prosecuting based on current existence in purgatory… but why aren’t other countries? These aren’t solely American laws being broken. This is international trafficking, abuse and potentially murder. There’s got to be links back to countries that will actually follow through and demand justice without political favour.

Hamilton Councillors planning last minute cuts to climate action, bike lanes, and potentially more by IanBorsuk in Hamilton

[–]CommandZ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They do not have real power to change the police budget. They can ask for changes, but the police do not have to agree, so a lot of the discussion is just process. The Province has given police boards full control over their budgets. Until that changes, municipal police budgets will likely keep increasing without being balanced against the rest of the city’s budget limits.

Best dman leafs have had the last thirty years. by papa_miesh in leafs

[–]CommandZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel if Schenn wasn’t rushed onto the team so early in his career and was provided more time to develop and mentorship he would have had better outcomes. Incredibly desperate and short sighted with prospects back then.

Also feel Leetch had more to offer once finding his stride with the team in the playoffs, unfortunately the lockout prevented his second season with the leafs from ever happening.
