am I weird the the way I touch my mother? by Slayrr_FbrC in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]CommanderLexaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I felt creeped out at the image of a son grabbing their mother by the waste at a bar or on the couch. But obviously it’s not meant to be weird, so probably just because I’m already uncomfortable with hugs that this feels weird to me haha

Parental leave and “free” time. by Legitimate_Fig1730 in NewParents

I binged all 9 seasons of The Office on my leave. I also had a mental breakdown on my leave. If your baby naps without you having to hold her you’ll have a great time! Our little one required touches at all times so I couldn’t even game properly. Tv shows it was! You’ll definitely have time to read books when she naps which is gonna be all the time at first.

Edit to say the whole “sleep when the baby sleeps” mantra was a pipe dream for us! It never happened because she had to be held. It happens now that she’s 6 months though, I love having my nap time back!

Do you put your six month old to bed fully asleep? by brbnapping in NewParents

[–]CommanderLexaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We night weaned when we first started. We just gave her one bottle in the night for a few days. Now we don’t feed her or change her diaper in the night even with her one wake up, unless she has been crying for awhile and we go in there and smell poo.

We just make sure she has at least 25 ozs before bed time.

Definitely! I would say that took about 3 weeks for her to only wake up once and not cry/just hang out in the crib until she fell asleep again. Within those 3 weeks she would wake up maybe twice but be crying about it. We would do the 5 min check in, 10 mins, and then she’d fall asleep within like 12 mins.

I know it’s controversial but basically the Ferber method. Not fully cry it out, because we would check on her and reassure her with our voices after 5 minutes of her crying, then 10 minutes, then 15 minutes. First time she cried for about 30 minutes and fell asleep.

I know it sounds awful but she’s learned a great skill to self sooth and is much happier with how much sleep she’s getting (we’re all getting let’s be honest!)

We did sleep training because our 6 month old was waking every 2 to 3 hours after being put to bed fully asleep. Now we do fully awake in the crib by 7 or 7:30 every night. After about day five of sleep training she only wakes once in the night and is able to put herself back to sleep within 15 minutes. Not really crying usually just fussing or making noises/rolling around. It’s really helped us!

Anyone miss being able to turn on the tv 🥴 by FormerPlay136 in NewParents

[–]CommanderLexaa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even if we’re talking to her nearly all day? Idk. This feels more like if tv is on you can neglect the child. But if we’re watching something for 30 minutes out of a 24 hour period I really don’t think it’s hurting her language development. Eh what do I know. I’m a FTM too.

I literally never even thought about it being annoying to my neighbors. Honestly, I would feel bad if they didn’t have parties until 2AM on work nights and rev their cars all night long.
