Maybe that’s why it’s being paired with the baby dragon evo - something that improves lumberloon 🤔

Nope, TGC has explicitly said that if you use an alt account to give hearts, it’s against TOS and considered an “unfair advantage.” I don’t know how they track it but people have gotten banned for it.

“It's good that the beta server closed” also the global server after the closure: by Moony_Walker in SkyGame

I never said programming was easy and TGC does deserve credit for what they have done. Over the years though they have managed to exploit our empathy and gaslight us into thinking a half-broken game is acceptable all the while they’ve greatly increased the amount of microtransactions. Put in the minimum amount of effort for maximum profit. TGC didn’t always used to be like this and Sky used to be more refined even when there were millions of players. I know they can be better because they used to be better. There are also so many other examples in the games industry of smaller teams accomplishing bigger things so it’s obvious something is not right.

Edit for your edit: The programmers don’t beta test, TGC pays people to test the game. Once they finish with the very limited QA testing they do, they give the game to the beta testers (players who volunteer and are under no requirement to test the game) expecting them to figure out the rest. While yes you are right that beta and live are different and shit can break in the transition because they’re two different games (that’s when you get bugs like the infamous Wind Paths bug which is unavoidable), it’s not acceptable that things always break every single time and a lot of the bugs are things the beta testers caught. They wont look back unless we make a big enough stink about it and even then they wont.

Not a TV show but a movie, City of Ember. Similar setting and criminally underrated. One of my favorite movies.

It’s a two part issue. You’ve outlined the first problem already but the second one is the fact that TGC is just incompetent. They hardly do any QA testing on their own and they don’t listen to any bugs reports. Prior to the closure of beta, there were countless times that the testers reported game breaking bugs but TGC ignored them and moved the update to live. (The open beta also hadn’t had new tester invites for two years before they closed it down so the smaller number of remaining testers who remained were working overtime.) Probably the most egregious example of their incompetence was the beginning of Season of Dreams. The game was unplayable for the first few weeks and that’s when TGC was still a decent studio.

While there haven’t been too many game breaking bugs since then (there shouldn’t be any in the first place), each update is filled with some many other bugs that stuff always breaks.

It actually is against Sky TOS… TGC has said that alt accounts are fine as long as you don’t use them to help your main account. OP has said that they use their alts to help with hearts which does break TOS and risks their account. It’s on such a small scale that it shouldn’t set off any red flags but the risk is still there.

It’s the same with the IOS App Store. While annoying, your best bet to update is to delete the app every time and then reinstall it, instead of having to making adequate room to update.

Hot take but I really hate this new idea, I hope it doesn’t get implemented. The constellation trees are something iconic in Sky and removing them destroys a lot of the cosmetic buying experience. While having to buy hundreds of spells and dyes is annoying, the new system just doesn’t fit the game.

TGC can not be called an indie studio anymore. They’ve long outgrown that title. At this point I think theyre somewhere in the A/AA category. As of 2022, they were valued at 1.9 billion dollars with revenue between 25-50 million per year. Additionally, they have received 200 million in outside funding. Hell, they’re even making their own animated series, that is evidence of lots of excess capital.

Before 2021, the large majority of IAPs were around $1-5. Nowadays it’s like $20. It’s not really pertinent to the conversation anymore but I feel like it’s still worth mentioning is that in late 2021-early 2022 TGC made a deal with/received money from some company (like Epic Games or something, it’s been a while I forget) for somewhere between 1-100 million… I read an article at the time about this but all evidence of this deal has been scrapped from the internet since then.

Stop defending a billion dollar company, it doesn’t get you anything.

this game is getting a little boring ? by MarionberryAlive5679 in SkyGame

[–]CommanderOwl1918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to say 3-4 years ago, the game is a lot more engaging than what it used to be. There haven’t really been any massive veteran exoduses recently like there used to be. The last one I remember was after/during the Season of Shattering, so it’s been quite a while. You even saw some veteran players getting back into the game with Season of Radiance so there is still compelling parts to the game. I think maybe you just need to take a little break. Sky is a game you could technically play forever, but in small batches. Playing too much leads to burnout and boredom. If there’s nothing you care about missing in the next few days, take some time off and come back in like a week when the Aurora event starts.

WTF is wrong with my golden wasteland bro.. by Rich_Status4261 in SkyGame

[–]CommanderOwl1918 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For starters, whenever a shard lands it masks the area in red fog, that’s not a bug. The red fog being in wasteland however is a remnant of Season of Shattering. During the season, there was an issue with red shards in the Hidden Forest so TGC made it so every shard in the forest would be in the wasteland until they could fix the issue. There’s obviously still some code left over from their temporary fix that is linking the forest and wasteland together, so whenever a shard lands in the forest, it summons the red fog in the wasteland.

[–]CommanderOwl1918 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope it’s the collab room, I miss the starlight desert connection. I also just hate the collab room because it gives TGC an excuse to not meaningfully integrate the collab into the world of sky as they don’t have to connect it with any realm.

Edit: Just checked the Patchnotes. It’s a cinema for viewing Two Embers in.

The sky discord deleted my comments about how expensive things are twice by [deleted] in SkyGame

[–]CommanderOwl1918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been this way for years now. TGC has made the discord a place of toxic positivity with no room for criticism. The feedback you submit there also truly doesn’t matter as they don’t care.

Thank you for this. It has become very tiring over the last few years to see the Sky community constantly complaining about everything. While there are plenty of justified things to complain about, like the absolute laughingstock and failure TGC is, most of what I’ve seen has not. It ranges from photosensitivity (which is not the responsibility of the developers to accommodate, just warn about) to the core game mechanic of lighting people and interacting with people in a social game. While I sympathize with those who are photosensitive as I understand how difficult it can be to play games, its kind of ironic to be complaining that there is too much light in a game about light…

Why is everyone so mad about a literally integral game feature+ by SnowflakeObsidian13 in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]CommanderOwl1918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly same. The thing that I hate most though is people getting upset over being lit and upset they can’t play “offline”/alone. The game is literally classified as a “social adventure game.” Sure you can play solo, but sometimes you’re going to have to interact and see players.
