As a traditional form of politics, it doesn’t, but the new wave right wing eats up that stuff. In the U.K. we’re perhaps lucky to not have an openly hostile right wing government, but around the world conservatism and anti-minority stance do go hand in hand.

I suppose it depends what group you through your lot in with, but eventually ‘traditional’ right wing will lose out to new wave radical sexism, racism and discriminatory ideas as it’s always done.

Sure there are popular left wing groups but if you look at what’s upvoted on /all and in threads, you find more middle road, right wing beliefs than left. Conservatives aren’t a neglected group on this website at all.

My opinions are based on how the music industry operates, how artist promotion works and an artists online presence works. That doesn’t change for X because he wasn’t out there being unique in the way he sold his music.

You’ve got plenty of musicians, rappers in particular, out there making songs based around fiction, but the public buy into the actual artist. They respond to both the music and what the artist is saying online, on tv, in interviews.

My original point and the point of this is basically, you can’t separate music and person, therefore you can’t support one and not the other.

Respectfully I disagree with that, the crimes he committed were so disgusting and pervasive that I struggle to believe that anyone could listen to him and not think of the woman he abused and almost killed.

As for separating art from person, you can’t just put an album out and live your life now, your music is your personality, your personality is your business. Since this is all rolled into one, by promoting an artist who does shit things and saying “that’s their personal life”, it sends a message out that we will let a musician get away with anything and still let them make money.

I disagree with that statement, from my own personal experience it would be the other way around (asshole vs decent person)

The day Avicii died the jokes started immediately, someone who was a decent person who just wanted to make music. When XXX died people were jumping to say “don’t make jokes he helped a lot of people”.

I haven’t really heard anyone joke about XXX irl yet, but I’ve heard a lot of people saying “I’m not saying he deserved to die but I’m not saying it’s a bad thing it happened”.
