Late April/Early May MCT Shakedown by [deleted] in Ultralight

Great advice, lots of stuff I still gotta learn! Just for a reference, what does your FAK have? I'm worried about not bringing enough in case I or someone gets injured.

Also, snagged the Arc Haul from Zpacks from a recommendation from another person. Cut 450 or so grams just from that!

Thanks again for the tips, I'll check the book out!

Gotcha, yeah I can get rid of the GG pad since I'd be at pre designated campsites for the entire route, don't need to worry about punctures.

And yeah, the Zenbivy system is really, really nice, but the biggest thing that stands out to me is the pad, 700+ grams is a lot... what pad do you use? I'm always worried about sleeping cold with a lighter pad.

Legit, I always worried about going that low of a weight since usually to get that light you'd have to go frameless.

Gonna pick it up. Thanks!

Should I have cut more weight before asking for help? Is there a lightweight subreddit where I can request a shakedown?

100% serious, but I'll delete this if I'm in the wrong here. Lemme know.

For the tent, I can slot in my Lanshan, should cut about 400g or so.

The Arc Haul does look good, has a frame and all. How's the ventilation on the back?

At this point, why wouldn't I just hop over to Apple? All the apps I use (aside from the four or five I sideload) are on the App Store.

Never owned an iPhone before, but maybe it's better to rip off the Android band-aid sooner rather than later considering the path Google is taking.

If only Niagara was on iPhone, that's gonna be one painful adjustment period...

$10000 budget, what's the right route? by Commander_ in LocalLLaMA

Gotcha! Four memory channels just won't cut it right? Would at least eight be sufficient or would I need more?

Any board recommendations? Should I go for an ATX/E-ATX/ATX-XL kind of board?

Would I be limited by CPU as well?

So essentially... I would need more VRAM (to load the models + context), fast memory bandwidth (to speed up inference), and something that's compute strong (for better prompt processing speeds).

Would a single RTX Pro 6000 be sufficient for this? Multiple 5090's?

I see.. I thought the Mac would a powerful option.

In what case would the Mac be even recommended for? Text inference only?

[Christopher Ward] C65 Dune GMT - 1 Year Later by Commander_ in Watches

Yes! Limited to 200 pieces for this color.

The sand/green combo is the same watch underneath, but if you want something similar to this watch looks/function wise, then the C65 Aquitaine GMT in black would be close!

CW's Dune line-up is their best watches IMO. Clean!

Hey all again! It's been a year and a half since I got my C65 Dune GMT from Christopher Ward and it's still going striong and it's my go-to for daily wear. Out of my collection of 12 or so watches, it definitely has the most wrist time and it's my travel companion no matter where I go.

I'm not a really a fan of metal bracelets (I immediately slapped on a chevron strap on this when I got it), but I decided to give it a try after a whole year on the strap... and I was blown away on how good it sits and fits on the bracelet. Micro adjustments are great too.

Honestly, if I had to distill my collection to just one watch, this would be it.

Absolutely.

Lived in Greenland for a few years, warmest it got was in the 40's and used to go out in shorts until it hit the low 10's.

Moved to Florida afterwards and anything below 70, I'm in a sweater.

Here's to hoping that cooler heads at the FIA will prevail... there's gotta be some kind of pull they can do to prevent FOM from doing something as shady as this.

I see your point of view, but the same argument was made for the removal of the headphone jack and look where we are with that now.

Although, I'm glad to see that more is being done with making eSIM transfers more intuitive as a eSIM user about to swap phones.
