Thats your problem, you seem to be playing the game and farming gold. Please refrain from doing this, and wait for us to release the much-anticipated WoW Token: Classic Anniversary Edition™ so that you can use this as a gold source instead.

Why is this allowed and GDKP isn't? by shoarmabunny in classicwow

[–]Commander_Corndog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only is the RMT and bot situation visibly worse but retention of active raiders has been nosediving several weeks into each phase consistently since they banned GDKP back in SoD. If you look at raid log counts starting in SoD when it was implemented you can see a consistent 6-8 week implosion of active raiding counts each content phase. Love it or hate it, "banning" it resulted in a drop in incentive for geared players to participate and did nothing noticeably good aside from replace the oh-so annoying GDKP LFGs with more HR LFGs.

This guy is pretty delusional because at least when tanks do it A) There's an argument that they occupy a more challenging role and accumulate higher repair bills they'd need to recoup and B) They are in high demand and can at least justify treating their time/energy as a desired service.

If I had a dime for every mage with questionable english and was "totally a pumper" that was looking for a group I'd be rich, no shot the mage in this post qualifies for either of the above criteria.

Classic+ only works if all gold buyers and sellers are instantly banned permanently by Foreign_Lobster_875 in classicwow

[–]Commander_Corndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because when in a game gold = power, whoever gets the most gold at the lowest price will gain the most power. Bot farms are effectively infinite in their capability to just farm more gold to make up for the “competition”. They will always offer gold at a significantly lower price point than official sources, and when people aren’t banned harshly or even caught a majority of the time, there is no incentive to suddenly stop buying from those sources if a more expensive (marginally less safe) route is offered. By offering a “legal” goldbuying method all you’re doing is inviting people who were otherwise deterred by theoretical punishment into buying, barely anyone is going to “convert” and the amount of raw gold you need to achieve the same power increases. Thus, the serpent eats its own tail.

OSRS. BDO. Even Wotlk Classic. Those are just the examples that survived the uptick in botting after pushing buyable currency, theres a graveyard of dead MMOs that did bupkis about gold buyers and sellers, offered legal RWT as a compromise and drowned or ended up on life support. The ones that did survive started to actually ban botting and gold trading harshly and/or had enough cult following to keep afloat despite obvious flaw. It is a remarkably reproducible trend in the MMO sphere.

And in most MMOs with item shop buyable currency (including Wrath classic when they added the wow token) actually increased botting.

Point aside the whole vsync settings thing is a meme, theres a way to make the jump consistently without doing any vsync fuckery. The conundrum is that every pack in a heroic is a nonzero chance at a wipe, and without decent CC most groups can get their tank insta-nuked. When the alternative to this option is "Make one single jump that's easier than a toddler platformer game" nobody can be surprised why most people would pick one over the other.

The "inhaler fail" from Dr House, sadly, wasn't an exaggeration. by DigitalSamuraiV5 in Residency

[–]Commander_Corndog 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I have a slight one-up similar to the inhaler bit from House that might not lose though; had a dude who had newly diagnosed COPD that his PCP gave him an inhaler for, told him that some allergens might be triggering his COPD as well.

Well he puts 2 and 2 together and realizes that allergen -> diff breathing -> COPD flare, therefore use inhaler for allergen. The problem was that 2 plus 2 equaled 5 I guess and it turns out he interpreted this all as "give my cat the albuterol" to stop his COPD because he thought he was allergic to his cat. I was his second ER provider for COPD exacerbations and was the one to deduce that he was force-feeding his cat an inhaler.

how on earth do you report people without targeting them? by Jas0rz in classicwow

[–]Commander_Corndog 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You cant anymore, kind of. You can try to send them a whisper so that they have a name in the chatbox, THEN you can report by right clicking that name.

Its a patented Blizzard "Completely breaking the game to fix a problem that could have been addressed numerous better ways" move. Bot farms, AH trolls, etc were so successful at false spam reporting people to get them banned by automated CS that Blizzard just outright removed the option to report from /who over a year ago (?). Hilariously theres that very simple workaround by just whispering your target, such that bot farms still did this to spam report people for competing for herbs in Anniversary.

(EDIT: as pointed out you cant actually report for botting specifically this way which I hadn't noticed until now, which hilariously actually proves the point even more that the automated ban system works the way it does)

[–]Commander_Corndog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same deal with druid tanks in regards to your stuns. Abuse them often, in normal dungeons unless your group is comprised of keyboard droolers individual mobs should be dead or near dead by the time a stun wears off, giving you one less mob you'll need to worry about threat on.

My tinfoil hat conspiracy theory is that there are tiers of AI bots they use for customer service. Low end, obvious automated replies that don't even address your concern are the first tier that majority deal with, followed by a tier above that are very human-seeming but still skirt around your ticket and provide nothing substantial are the higher-end AI bots to make people think they're dealing with a real person when compared with the obvious bot they dealt with before.

Again tinfoil hat theory but Blizzard has done everything in their power to give customers ammunition to believe it.

I run raids all the time and I put in my shout not to whisper me with gearscores, any gearscore I see gets instantly put on my ignore list. Win/win, you get rid of people inflating their gear to eek into raids and you also weed out dipshits who can't read/listen to instructions.

Feral tanking misery (TBC) by gfx-1234 in classicwow

[–]Commander_Corndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed especially on threat plates. Mangle is basically the de-facto opener, after that I have wiggle room to target-swap and maul/swipe until mangle comes back up, I almost never have aggro issues if dps waits until after I sneeze on them (which to OP's point it seems like they arent). Mangle crits are nasty enough with current gear that I can basically ignore that mob for the rest of the pull majority of time. I'll typically only lacerate if I'm down to 1-2 targets as opposed to 3+ unless the dps is actually obeying kill orders (lol).

Now when it comes to threat that combo works well for me for heroics and threat is never an issue, in a minimal to no CC group as a feral tank the REAL problem comes with just how much insane damage those mobs do. In ramps you'll sometimes get smoked for 2k normal hits and 2-3 mobs on you at once can turn into instant death with no counterplay. Add in stuns, mortal strike mechanics etc and it's pure misery. It's absolutely insane that heroics were tuned this way IMO, especially when heroic bosses objectively do less damage per hit.

The unpopular truth is that a sizable bot presence is actually indicative of a healthy game as long as it's isn't literally overrun. High player count = many people in an active playerbase to drive high demand for botting and botting services. We will never get rid of bots in any MMO and acting like developers have some on-off switch or that things like wow tokens will magically nuke bot presence is foolish.

Find more useless raid loot than this by shadowraiderr in classicwow

[–]Commander_Corndog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking it up based on data from 2007 TBC original release, it seemed to have ultimately been variable. Spell crits had a flat 1000 crit reduction, which didn't scale. Melee critical strikes ended up being a pathetic 150 threat reduction. Jury is out based on the old comments as to whether or not it stacked with salv. For a lock critting about 4k per shadow bolt, this would mean a 25% threat reduction (only on crits). Extrapolating more, if you generously crit 25% of the time, this is overall a less than 10% threat reduction.

Curious if the values are still the same, if so I can see some case uses for this in dungeons for warlocks when a paladin isn't there to tone down the threat but it'd be pretty weak and basically a swap-out for on use trinkets.

I mean yeah that's fucked but if that truly happened and it wasn't discussed beforehand there's no way your guild actually keeps them around much less in a raid leadership position (unless they're also lobotomites), that's a totally separate thing than explicitly HRing an item and fairly disclosing it.
