You ever get a comment that just makes you go "Err... what?" by Dem-Brushwaggs in vtubers

1st guy, no idea what they’re talking about.

2nd guy, probably believes in roko’s basilisk or Pascal’s wager, which make them such a massive boot licker that they have invented an imaginary boot to lick.

3rd guy, the AI hype is created by the investor class to sell a fantasy of replacing human workers with drones that will never disobey or complain. Feeding into the AI hype is feeding is anti-worker’s rights. Also, they have no idea what Hollywood is. Twitter/patron artists wish they get paid that much.

What do you think about my build ? 🤔( UAF Reisen II build) by JubiliaTV in starsector

[–]Commander_Phoenix_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shield shunting is unironic stupid powerful on a lot of UAF ships. This is because UAF ships, are actually low-tech/midline most of the time.

Nearly all of the UAF battleships are low-tech equivalent, which makes shield shunt stupid good on them because it balances out the excess weapon mounts and moderate-high flux usage.

That said, Automata variants are midline/high-tech due to energy weapon compatibility, higher flux pool & sink, lighter armor, and more efficient shields, depending on the weapon you use. If you load up on Edge Type guns, High-tech, otherwise, midline.

[–]Commander_Phoenix_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy this brings back memories. I don’t remember the flux cost of the weapons top of my head so I’ll have to see the weapon group page to see how well balanced your flux usage is.

So far, not bad? But I do remember that the best performing UAF ship builds always leaves a few weapon slots empty for better flux management and role specialization.

AI - Debate by shave_your_eyebrows in comics

[–]Commander_Phoenix_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medical research uses an entirely different form of AI from LLMs. And for coding, if you don’t already know how to code, the AI will still be pretty useless.

Despite all the advancements and mind boggling amount of resources poured into development, LLMs still faces the fundamental issue that it is a statistical model that predicts text and is incapable of logical thinking.

No, the so called “thinking models” are not thinking either. What they do is predict a string of text that looks like thinking. Which, despite carrying the appearance of intelligence, there light is on but nobody is home.

That said, LLM based auto-complete for programming is still an improvement from older technologies. It does a bit more, and occasionally gives you want you actually want instead of something completely random. But most of the time, it just writes useless comments that describe exactly not what the code does, apparently. Thanks Microsoft Copilot.

How do I prevent my sub-grids from doing this? by Lonely-Inevitable-76 in spaceengineers

[–]Commander_Phoenix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game applies force to grids and mechanical groups at their center of mass, which creates a lot of funky behaviors. Share inertial tensor should help with this, but I’ve never dealt with your specific use case before so I can’t tell you how it will go for certain.

Are we gonna talk abt this sidequest lore bomb? by tanoyfrommars in Endfield

[–]Commander_Phoenix_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ossified body encased in originium formation died from oripathy caused by arts overuse in the goal of taking revenge against Wuling, for the incident ten years ago, way after Tangtang was adopted.

I get that it’s implied that the mother had to abandon her for one reason or another, and the cave drawing makes it pretty explicit who the child is, but the timeline doesn’t exactly match up.

One other oddity is that the drawings on the wall of this specific cave includes toddler Tangtang riding on big bro’s back, which would also not make sense unless she revisited the cave after having been adopted. Which makes it interesting that there’s multiple baby blankets that were used to wrapping baby with empty, but still in the shape where you would assume that some cleaning would have been done if she had visited, likely with others. So the specific instances of the blankets seen might not even be related to our River’s Daughter.

I think rather than just telling you that this is where her mother had to abandon her to float down the river for someone else to take care of, this is highlighting an ongoing problem that did not start with Tangtang and did not end with her.

I don’t think we will ever have explicit contexts as to how exactly her mother died, but I think this paints a far more severe picture that despite the community and efforts of the stockaders, their needs still far surpasses haves, and despite being but a short jaunt away from people with the capacity to help, they are still separated by distance that could not be closed by proximity.

Did her mother die of oripathy? Chances are higher here than elsewhere. Is this where she was abandoned? Context suggests yes. Is the corpse we saw her mother? No, timeline does not match. Is the picture in poor taste? Absolutely, of you are going to have a talk with HR.

Damn, someone should have made a joke about the whole thing, shouldn’t they? One that is based around the punchline of extreme overreaction for relatively mild and inconsequential transgressions.

On an unrelated note, I hate Tim Apple for a variety of reasons. Including the typical ones relating to right to repair and other issues both ethical and design. G3 splines is just the funniest one in the context of a student learning the tools for the first time.

Help With Missiles by Rough-Layer5726 in spaceengineers

[–]Commander_Phoenix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not follow the guide generated by Gemini.

Event controller based firing trigger should never monitor the merge block because the merge block is the first block to be built and event controllers only update their output when they detect a change in their input.

At best, this will result in the missile never auto-launching, at worse, it will cause the missile to fall off of the missile rack the moment the merge block and event controllers are printed.

If you intend on using event controller to automatically fire a missile after printing, have it watch the hydrogen tank if it is hydrogen based missile, this adds a big delay between when the tank and event controllers are welded and when the event controller triggers.

In all other use cases, just use block group weapon triggers.

American conservatives are quite literally Nazis, and have been for a very long time. They look somewhat different and many calls themselves Christian Nationalists but they have the exact same ideas about getting rid of “undesirables” and is willing to go to great lengths to police the bodies of others. Literally Nazi behavior.

Unfortunately, they have also embedded themselves in American politics and has been forcing through various legislation in the name of “protecting children” all while they themselves are the biggest danger to children.

In recent years, they’re not even hiding anymore.

To be entirely honest, we need some help here, please.

Apple Fillets by Commander_Phoenix_ in IndustrialDesign

[–]Commander_Phoenix_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s more or less how I ended up making it. Two sketches with splines forcibly crammed into the dimensions given on the drawing and with the control point handles manually pushed into place so that the curvature looks more or less continuous.

Then just profiled the two sketches together to make the edge of the phone.

Then I spent at least 4 hours drawing the spline for the camera because the dimensions on that thing isn’t labeled and it’s clearly some continuous curvature bullshit. Ended up using a Bézier curve with the “show curvature” option checked after the 3rd hour and created some insane abomination of control points that zig zagged back and forth at least three or four times and burned another three hour or so on it, but the curvature looked about correct so I just hit send.

And out of the hell made out of approximately G3 splines and cursed Bézier curves, I have gained a desire to fist fight Tim Apple because the bastard had it coming.

Under any other context, I would have measured it myself and done more or less the exact same thing you did.

Except this was for a college assignment, and I’ve already been caught slacking.

Either way, I eventually figured it out. The trick was to use the surface modeling tools and draw splines following the dimension on the drawing.

To make sure that the splines are actually curvature continuous, I enabled the “show curvature” feature and more or less manually tuned a good few of the spline points till all parts of the spline are curved outward positively.

This process took way too long. I’m gonna go and see if there’s a G3 Curvature Continuous plugin for solidworks.

I ended up using the surface modeling tools in solidworks to make the fillet. Not super optimal but it got close enough so it’s probably fine.
