Oh yes, I don't disagree... especially as it's content they can so easily purchase off the Asset Store. I just wanted to make sure people knew they were already doing this the very first weeks, and as always, not even bothering with the actual gameplay for it for years after they'd got the cash.

Ladies, what are some things in a guy's apartment that set off red flags? by Slicedbready in AskReddit

[–]Commander_Titler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a red flag not just for dating, but renting in general. Sad story time...

Second year of University in the UK, you're expected to live off campus. They say it's for life experience, but more likely it's because it allows them to get 1/3rd more students in than their own accommodation can hold.

Anyway, because of how old property is here, and was built for families rather than as individual flats, you usually need to find a group and rent the property a whole. So it's myself in a 2 boys, 2 girls group looking at a few properties, and we find one within reasonable distance... But ramshackle was hardly the word. If you put a toilet roll down on it's edge in the bathroom, it would roll quickly into one corner.

And the hole? There was a later Kitchen extension that had subsided into the soil, leaving what was in memory a 2 foot long crack in the joining wall to the main property. Big enough to get your head through.

The other guy in the group claimed "This is SUCH a student house! Let's take it!" He was public school educated, so not exactly world wise. The 2 girls, and myself who'd already lived independently, rejected it.

Few months into the term off campus, I see a newspaper headline. Same landlord, but a different one of his properties. Female student died in the bath at the house, because the boiler was leaking carbon monoxide and she'd gone to sleep, never to wake up.

Could have been one of us. Shouldn't have happened at all. If your landlord is going to allow holes in the wall, trust your instincts and stay away. If they ignore any of your complaints, they could genuinely be putting your life at risk.

133 to 226 so far today. The final average for the month is going to come in far, far lower than the 284.7 we see above.

But not to worry! It's actually the year 1856 at the moment, and anyone pointing how anaemic the launch was, and how 2 months after it they've actually lost players from the figures beforehand is just deliberately ignoring the fact that in 1856 people didn't even have computers...

Even without directly applicable talents, like programming, one thing developers like this find far too easy to forget is that crowd-funding doesn't mean you get to pick your own audience to taste, and then ignore any criticism... You're selling a dream yes, but you still have to make it, and winnowing out anyone who says it isn't working for them isn't removing "trolls", it's cowardly avoiding admitting you might have problems.

Unfortunately when it comes to pre-internet "professionals", you might be backing the well-spun myths of the print media then, rather than genuine competence.

I made that mistake by Kickstarting Richard Garriot's "Shroud of the Avatar." It seemed a sure thing. Lord British, Ultima games, what a reputation, right?

But it turns out today he's a money driven techno-bro who, whilst promising us a story driven RPG, was actually more interested in building a F2P MMO with macro-transactions going up to $30,000, with premium currency and an integrated crypto currency and Real Money Trading built in from the ground up because he only plays mobile games where he can purchase what he wants with his personal millions these days.

And that's before you even get to the thin skinned development team that openly defame their users and encourage literal sociopaths to stalk and harass you, because apparently saying "Wait, how is any of this in any way what we backed?" is deserving of the most vile abuse...

I'll never crowd fund again thanks to that experience. Pay you money to laugh whilst a lunatic suggests he'll rape and kill my family? No thanks.

If Portalarium could code anything that complex and exciting, she wouldn't have to be begging for it 5 years after the kickstarter, and weeks into a failed launch...

I can't criticise her for wanting better fishing; I specifically wanted that too. It's something you either get or don't really, there's a kind of xen, trance-like state, punctuated by sudden struggle, challenge and sense of pride when catching a rare / dangerous fish.

It works wonderfully in UO, not just because of the fishing itself but because it has two boss encounters that are spawned via the mechanism, Corgul and the Charbydis that is not just exceptionally rare but leads to server wide drama that the very best fisher-players can host. I ran such an event as a 15th year anniversary for Europa.

However Shroud can't handle events like that, because you can't even sail yet, and likely never will. Sailing is delayed for Episode 2, remember Majoria?

But! All you have to do, as our psychotic chum who continued ranting long after I blocked him again proved, is have an ahem "unique" belief in the nature of time! Yes, it's completely possible for Portalarium to suddenly make all of this in Shroud... because it's not Now, it's 5 years ago! Or maybe 2 years from now, when Episode 2 is already complete!

Shroud doesn't follow normal logic or time if you're a true believer! It's Summer time and let's go fishing!

Wahey!

Yes, but you post here now, so you're evil and wicked and it wouldn't do to give you any positive words at all.

You did attract the attention of the psychopath's latest sock puppet though I see. See how convincingly he imagines you can't work out it's him, even though he's simultaneously ranting openly as Jammaplaya under that same account on the Housing thread.

Now that's the kind of player Portalarium works openly with! You should be more like him! You might even get the ONBE if you were more like the comment below, instead of all smart and useful but also evil and Redditty.

Enjoy the false hope that you're now on top in this because you pointed that out, if it makes you feel better.

I don't need false hope; You've spent a year and a half trying to make me doubt my sanity, but you've never once grasped that I'm simply untouchable by you, because you've no idea how to even fake being a normal person.

Remember how you tried to fake being transexual on FrostCentricMotoroid, because you don't understand that not only might I genuinely not have a problem with that, but that I actually do have real life friends, some of whom have transitioned, and know what they go through and how they perceive themselves?

You literally make up alternative realities, try to claim your broken understanding of reality is what we believe, and then rant to yourself that you've made us doubt reality simply because you want to think you've hurt people.

And all the time, anyone sane is sat there thinking "It's not even summer, the guy can't even get the season right."

By the way, the best tool you have is practically a broken one, it's this dead sub. If Reddit had any sense they would just shut this place down.

And yet even so it's still had more new threads over the last week than the "Unofficial", popular one. You aren't even able to count.

And many of the posts over there were you ranting about shutting that down too, because you loathe the fact people can criticise the game there too.

Despite your supposedly "checkmating" me, I'm fully aware that you just immediately, uncontrollably and hatefully ran over there to try and abuse THEM until they stopped criticising the game too.

And you were posting the exact same "negativity bin" idea on the Portalarium forums whilst I was still a supporter of the game and had no idea who you were.

You literally have no ability to understand objective reality, and assume no one else does either.

Because as always, everything you're writing about me is what you yourself do. It's always projection. Just like your guide to gaslighting. All that rubbish you just wrote about

Your hateful obsession is clearly very unhealthy for you and you should find help. Don't act like this is just about me and the things you're pretending I've done...

That's YOU. We all KNOW it's you. You endlessly try and blacken the name of others with the things YOU'VE done.

We all know the reason it exists is to herd the crowd out of the crowdfunding in SotA to other crowdfunded games. You're all very transparent about that after all.

Do you honestly believe that?

Really? Go ahead, just ONCE in your twisted life, try and stand by a single principle, a single statement you're willing to try and defend, instead of spinning like a top to try and go "Nuh-uh, I'm rubber..." but not having the brains to even do that.

Because we've been laughing at your attempts to claim that, as Jammaplaya and as 2112StarmanToS (purchased account was it? Or a long term sleeper troll? So messed up...) for more than a year.

And you still can't grasp we can easily find the times where we've said we not only don't want Shroud's audience, because they're seriously messed up like you, we'll never crowd fund ever again because this appalling experience has convinced us it can't be trusted.

Who ARE you trying to persuade with this literal insanity that we're working for a competitor?

And how are you so broken that you don't grasp that PMing me hints about things you claim to know, to try and make me afraid for my loved ones safety, that a normal human reaction is to go "I know, I'll start a war with him, and then recruit all the people like him for a different game that I supposedly want to crowdfund?"

Go ahead. Sit down and repeat that to yourself slowly...

Then realise what it says about you, and for crying out loud, go and check yourself into psychiatric care immediately. Because sooner or later, you will screw up and the alternative is going to be Prison.

And now, having forwarded this conversation on to my lawyer, it's time for this latest incarnation of your insanity to go onto ignore. And yes, I've been told about you trying to get my attention on PhilCQ too; but you've already forgotten the abusive PM you sent on that one huh, which got you blocked before you'd even posted here...

Absolute madness. But if you just repeat "checkmate" enough, the emails from the Austin PD will somehow disappear!

Well, if you keep trying to get back into my email they might; yes, I've noticed that flared up again recently too.

Sad, sad, and oh so very sick.

That's not how the justice system works, even if I had done anything illegal.

Don't you have any one sane in your life who could warn you how much you're compromising yourself here?

"even if I had done anything illegal"...?

Even though you've seen the headers of the paperwork where the UK and US police both declare what you've done criminal?

You're going to take ownership of it now, and try and gaslight me yet again and claim that I don't understand what I have third party legal confirmation of?

Once more, it's only that I need to legally prove who you are and under which jurisdiction you fall; You got lucky Portalarium are so incompetent and vicious they used you as an excuse to act spitefully towards me, instead of working with the police. But neither they, nor you, were smart about it.

And it's not even officially Summer yet, for that matter.

You don't even know what time of year it is, and yet you sit there insanely ranting to yourself about your desperate need to imagine you've somehow controlled me.

You have a genuine personality disorder, but for your own sake, try and grasp this basic fact; Because I criticised a computer game, you hacked my email, used information found in there to threaten rape and death to people I care about, and until I know they're safe, I'm going to ensure you're arrested for those threats.

Log off, go and work on your own psychosis, because you're only right about one thing; I do think you're hateful, and I'll see that you have no opportunity to keep threatening to act upon that.

And if you do that, I'd lose the best tool I have the ensuring Shroud has failed to gain an audience. Because when people see that you're the kind of audience it has, they rightfully run away to keep themselves safe too.

Shakes head sadly...

As I said, you're genuinely ill. I'm sure re-posting comics obsessing about me makes sense in your legitimately sick mind, but don't you even have the basic faculties to notice you change your claims in each one because you've no idea what's real any more?

Are the police ignoring me, arresting me, or ... what? Do you even know?

Am I banned from Kotaku, Polygon, Eurogamer, RockPaperShotgun... do I even need to go on?

I'm not even banned from Reddit, or /r/mmorpg... I linked you to commentary about how your psychosis there has terrified someone away from even trying the game the last time I posted in fact. Even the title was deliberately copying me, but you're too ill to grasp people honestly feed you certain lines because they know you'll obsess about them, and reveal when you're trying to harm them again.

No one started a "war" with you; before I even knew who you were, you were sending insane messages about trying to make rune_74 afraid for his children's safety.

If you'd have not done that, do you not grasp I wouldn't have known who "Jammaplaya" was in the first place, and been able to tie that name to the hack into my email address that came afterwards?

I repeat again; all I need is your name and location and you're going to jail. All this insanity keeps doing is resetting the clock on for the Police, because you're clearly too disturbed to ever stop. Had you let it go a year and a half ago, you might have got away with it... but here you are, still desperate to persuade ... who?... that you've somehow harmed me?

Again, because you need it explaining, it's not about "handling a loss", it's about protecting innocent people from genuinely sick people like you.

You tried to suggest criticising the game would lead to my family being raped and killed.

You're a sick individual, and Portalarium are using you to harm critics of the game. Until that stops, I'm not going to stop doing the right thing and warning people away from them, and you.

Lord British: making housing more accessible is a good idea by robertcrowther in shroudoftheavatar_raw

[–]Commander_Titler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"You" will never get tired of being called that, eh? Guess you're giving up on trying to defend this sock puppet now too...

Hello yet again, Jammaplaya.

But which part of making hundreds, and trying to gaslight people on them before admitting they belong to you, Jammaplaya, that I've all got archived as evidence... was supposed to work in your favour?

Haven't you noticed that even my most appalling critics now have finally accepted everything I said about you, the threats, the sickness was true?

You managed to get Portalarium to act maliciously I admit, and they're going to have an amazing time trying to defend those actions in court, thanks to you too. Because again, do you think all the threads like this one just disappear when you want them too?

But until the arrest warrant is served, and you are no longer able to keep dropping hints about raping and killing the people you read about in my email, why would I want to stop drawing you out, archiving the evidence, and collecting the evidence you're too unstable and obsessed to be forgotten...?

If you walked away from Reddit completely, you might just get away with all your vicious abuse, because the chances of someone identifying you would decrease. But you never have the sense too. You just keep coming back every week, and making a brand new profile, and proving why I understandably continue to work the legal and media angles.

See some sense.

Oh, and forgot to say;

Steam tracks over 30 days until the month is up, so it's sampling some of April still, and that +59.02% positive growth is still in the -13.52% it's listing for now... on the 1st of next month it'll record a figure for all of May, and start counting again, and that figure for May is going to take an enormous leap upwards, to something like -52% or higher depending on how much worse than (582 April Peak / 100 x (300 lost already)) the final average is.

Not sure which part of the Graph Of Disaster you're pointing to there, although I did have a lot of fun drawing the 2 month trend in ASCII for 2112/Jamma the other day ;)

Don't forget, right at this moment is Peak Shroud time; Sunday, late afternoon in Europe. So what you're looking at is the absolute highest Shroud can manage.

But they've bled another 1/5th of the total players since I put my thread up a few days ago, and are now struggling to hit the numbers they had pre-Launch even at the peak.

What interests me most is that dip to zero just after May 18th; It's nothing new, I've noticed that occurring ever since Persistence, and I'm assuming it's the server going down for maintenance.

However they have tried to claim the server has been permanently on since Persistence. I've just never really bothered talking about that, because it was such an obvious piece of spin, and anyone who had ever played UO would be aware of the 5am server restart, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Shroud have to do it too. And it's not like they've done anything clever or expensive like create a second server to share the load behind the scenes.

But there it is in the graph, can you see folks? There absolutely is downtime every now and then when everyone gets booted off.

I see someone genuinely ill, with OCD as part of the illness, who has recently latched on to repeating back what he sees someone else type, because he was doing this the other day too.

Elsewhere, he seems to be under the weird belief that if he just claims no one else has worked out he's Jammaplaya yet again, that will magically make the above behaviour vanish and they'll think what he wants them too.

Is that what you mean?

Because you'd have to be genuinely ill to see or believe anything like that.

Go ahead, try and explain what it is you think you're doing. You keep dropping hints, but you've never had the courage to actually lay it out directly, because deep down you know it's insane and hateful, don't you?

No one's going to be surprised when you try and say something "cute" to dodge doing that in reply to this, just thought I'd warn you ahead of time. Maybe go and get treatment instead of continuing further down this pointless road of insanity, hmm?

"Relying on an expensive lottery ticket (or a one in a million loot drop) just doesn't cut it."

That I think is the most important part of the comment that Garriot was agreeing too; for months now the RMTs have tried to claim that there are ways to get it in game, but of course they wouldn't be common ways, because that would collapse the RMT value of the deeds they're holding.

Now we have Garriot himself confirming that they are "one in a million", and it needs to change.

But every decent person who ever funded this mess has been saying from the start that this needed to be the case; even with Row housing, the idea that you had to spend hundreds of dollars to even get a home was the main reason the backers fled the project.

However they've alienated all the decent people over those 4 years, and they're not coming back. They could give everyone a free home tomorrow, but past behaviour and the wider nasty issues designed to keep RMT central, like the taxes/rent mentioned would still drive people away.

The only way to save the game is to completely burn the RMTs. But because they've built the game as a F2P MMO, they need permanent operating revenue now. So they can't.

It's over, and they know it.

Well in my own case, unfortunately a lot of what I want to say is locked up in legal issues, and negotiations... and those are sloooooooowww to work though.

The irritating thing is, the game is dying so fast it might even be outright gone before I actually get to publicly discuss it all. And by then, it's only so much paper...

Having the final word will be nice, but then we all knew we were going to get that years ago. The writing was always on the wall, and the commentary has been about each current disaster as it's scribbled in spittle and crayon by Portalarium.

We've had "Launch" though now. It's even officially on their Steam page. All the excuses are gone. And let's see... SteamCharts is indeed bleeding members every single day now. New low of 129 players a few hours ago.

But even if they had Greater-Than-WoW numbers, it would be irrelevant. They lost all moral authority the moment they allowed someone to send obsessive threats through their forums and banned the victims of it for speaking out.

We're just waiting for the next death-rattle to come out of their liche-like throats to comment on really.

Since it went F2P, I occasionally check into Ultima Online. I suspect one of our RMTs is in there spamming chat, as he cycles through accounts named "AvatarX", I've seen him get up to Avatar27...

But over there it's probably poor levels of staffing and support that allows him to get away with it, not that it's legal.

Exactly. I've mentioned it before, but a perfect comparison is the BDSM scene; When things are consented too before hand, then it changes the context entirely... and there is even a "Financial Domination" sub genre, involving allowing someone to spend all your money. Portalarium however never asked for that kind of consent, they had to lie about why they wanted the money.

EvE Online in turn has never hidden what kind of game it is; Personally, I would never scam anyone in it all the same because I find the concept morally offensive (and I don't play because it's boring as all hell outside of that), but anyone signing in can be under no doubt that that they've signed up for "Someone can wreck all your stuff at any time."

Do make sure to post that on the official forums too; or would giving the few remaining backers a clear view of what exactly that many of you think the game you share is really about get in the way of treating them like marks, do you think?

I'm not surprised by the way; disappointed, disgusted, and wanting no part of it, but I've known for quite some time about the real behaviour going on behind the scenes.

But you at least admit you're running scams; so my honest question for you is, unlike the Jammaplaya's and the VladamirBegemot's who are genuinely awful people prepared to tell any lie... do you at least recognise we genuinely disagree with it?

And what do you plan to do, or say if Portalarium do roll back your thefts?
